Here's some tips:

* Not sure how to do something? Go on the Minecraft Wiki (google it)

* Monsters can't spawn in light areas. Use coal, or charcoal (cook wood from trees in the furnace) to make torches

* For your first house, I'd recommend using planks to make a square room

* Make lots of tools out of stone. Don't use wooden tools, and this way you will save iron, gold and diamonds

Build a pillar straight up on top of/next to your house and light up the top. Easier to find your house if you get lost. Also, I would highly suggest that you subscribe to someone like CaptainSparklez or The Yogscats so you can keep up with Minecraft updates and maybe watch a playthrough of the game. The best ones are SeaNanners and Davidr64yt but they're outdated.

Tips/Info:

You need bones to get the dogs, usually more than one.

You can use bonemeal, from bones, to instantly make wheat grow.

If you are going to farm, make sure you know not to walk over your crops it destroys them use shift to walk over instead also plowed soil only becomes fertile (dark brown) when it's within four blocks away from a water source

2. Make a sword, pickaxe and shovel out of the best materials you've got available. That's all you need right now. You can always make stone axes or hoes.

3. Torches can be seen at quite a distance at night. Use them as waypoints.

3a. Clouds move north assuming the sun rises in the east.

4. Don't dig straight up. Being buried in sand or gravel is a bad way to go.

5. See if you can collab with someone. It takes nothing to make a multiplayer server for a couple of people.

Survive the night, murder sheep in the morning, make a bed. THEN worry about farming.

two things you should do: first, build a furnace. if you can't find coal, you can burn wood in the furnace to make some charcoal, which you can use to make torches.

second, you should make a marker on your house. a tower of dirt, sand, or any other material you have a lot of and some torches should do just fine. it helps you to not lose your house

Don't use your pickaxe to dig sand or dirt, or cut wood. It takes longer, and it reduces the life of your pick, so you can't mine as much stone or coal with it. Shovels take care of sand and dirt really well and axes make easy work of trees.

I recomend that you go out to get some cole and make some torches you also need to put a torch in your pumkin to make a jacko lantern which gives off a brighter light then the torches. You should also make a furnace and make some windows using sand and fule. Minecraft Wiki will really help you when your starting off in this game, thats what I used when I first started.

Riley, make yourself a Furnace. Just get 8 Cobblestones and the pattern is just a square, except don't put anything in the middle. Then go find some Coal to use the Furnace. Usually If you keep digging down, you can eventually find some coal. On a side note, you can also use the Coal to create torches for your home.

Riley, collect bones. When you see wolves, give them the bones so that you can tame them. Not only are they fun to have around, but they also fight for you. It's best to have a group of wolves attack something rather than just one at a time. A word of warning though: they can be hard to find.

Riley if you want fire, the best way you can do it without coal is to make charcoal. Make an Oven then put wood in both boxes, wait and then you get charcoal. It's more efficient but it's time consuming and with the amount of tree's around you, you'll be able to make alot of it

Yes, you can domesticate those dogs, (wolves actually) and they'll protect you if you get attacked. Turn the game from peaceful to easy, normal or hard, kill a skeleton and get some bones, then right click the wolf with the bone. it won't always work, but if it does, it'll get a red collar and hearts will come out
