@97videogamenerd ROFL you get a 10lb fish or more as a kid, then get one bigger than that when you're an adult and you'll get the gold scale. You have to be an adult to get it. Getting it as a kid is a glitch I think only on the N64 version

When you think about the fact that you've got to first wait until the exact moment it decides to swim, then cast in the perfect spot, then HOPE that it bites (it usually doesn't), and even THEN you have to catch it, and it's the hardest catch in the game by far. And if you fail even one step, you start over. So, yeah. It takes that long.

I found it first time going towards the stream from the right. You must catch a fish bigger than 15 first. Then go round the lake and up to the RIGHT side of where the stream starts. It may be there, that's where i got it first time looking :-).

You can nab the sinking lure at the bottom of the fishing pond- Equip the iron boots and the Zora's tunic and search around the pond. It may scare the fish away for a while, and anything you catch with it on can't be kept as a record, but it's worth it to see your catches go over 30 pounds XD
