What they do not realise is that their cars have a disgustingly low oil efficiency, and they pay almost HALF of what Europeans do for petrol. All on its own America has resultantly pushed up the price for gas for the rest of the world. No American president has the guts to put this right because Americans moan so much about it, so we all have to continue to suffer with ridiculous prices. Thanks a fucking bunch, you selfish idiots.
In 2008, current U.S. "Energy" Secretary (then just a zany professor) Steven Chu clarified that "somehow we have to figure out how to boost the price of gasoline to the levels in Europe."
Who says this administration can't get things done?
No 1 will vote 4 Obama, who's has driven R economy in the ditch. No experience N finance or economics. I'm tired of paying $5.00 a gal 4 gas in Ca. This president is a COMPLETE failure ! OMama surrounded himself with a cabinet full of left wing loons who cannot Even SPELL Constitution. There's no energy policy N place, R- national debt is out the roof. He has no vision 4 the future of R country. Chicago needs a Community Organizer. I know a man thats available come 2013!
I just wanted to tell everyone about the MayDay Moratorium on gasoline purchases on May 1, 2011. This is a day on which show the oil companies that we can all band together when there are issues we can all agree on. I know that there is small chance of it lowering prices, but it is a tangible way we can express our dissatisfaction with the current gasoline prices. Forward this to everybody and let’s see what happens. May 1, 2011: Don’t buy gas on May 1, 2011.
Las Vegas Nevada.... Gas goes up, cost of living goes up. Gas here is 3.75-3.98 per gallon, and there's talk of it going to 5.15-5.35 per gallon. I know it not as bad as the eastside. But our min wage is 7.25 per hour. And with the cost of living alway increasing, it's hard for the locals to survive. I've resorted to taking the bus, at $60 for 30 days, to save money.
don't u dare complain, u have something like the 54th most expensive fuel prices in the world yet you use the most because the majority of you can't be bothered to drive manuals, your fuel is almost half the price of ours
One way I prepared for peak oil was converting my home to a net-zero solar powered home that uses no oil or gas..I made a video about it called, "Preparing for Peak Oil"....
besides instead of saying prizes are too high how about buying diesel cars, without 6 liter engines and 300 hoursepower v8 engines? i guees u guys dont know what a 2 litre disel car like my audi a4 2.0 tdi is right?
i hope war in iraq ends so theese americans come to reality...they dont give a shit about global warming...only if global warming destroys mac donalds
stupid fucks, first, your gas price isn't high at all, here in sweden it costs 12.40 swedish crowns / liter last time i checked, 1 gallon is about 3.7854 liters, do your own math, and besides, almost everyone had a SUV or pickup truck, pussies...
Dont worry there are things set up so people this dumb cant have any power. Why would they take advice from someone who cant say "ridiculous." If you drill all the oil, it becomes cheap and everyone uses more and more of it. And in a couple hundred years what next when all the oil is gone and and landscape has been ravaged and destroyed? Oh yeah, war for oil. Great idea. There is a decent foothold for nuclear war. Not caring about the future of humans is just plain ignorant.
will america eva shut up about ur "GAS" (its called petrol) in europe it hit 5eruo a liter dat was about $8 a liter times 5 = 1gallon which is $40 A GALLON so u dnt ave it hard der. der was ppl in ireland filling lorrys wit 1500euro dats around $2400 a week OMG america is full of shit!
I Love this Video and also I checked out your Channel. Very interesting! If you need any help getting this Video and your Channel exposed to were it is top in all the search I found this site called tubeviews.(net) that has took my breath away. I'm working on my 4th Channel now, this one I just made. My Videos are getting so many hits now. Check it out and keep in touch.
Bush gave the oil companies Millions of dollars in tax breaks while the American pepole are paying out the g(ass) tank. Oh but wait, It's the American peoples faul and not enough refinaries. Maybe we should ask Russia to help us out. Why not? Well we are about to give the Rich bankers 700 billion dollars in taxpayer money. DO THE MATH!
it doesn't matter we gotta drill even if it spills occasionally so shut up treehuggers..no more blood for oil..i'd rather spill oil than BLOOD..WAKE UP AMERICAN..STOP BILL HR 6899! DRILL..DRILL DRILL
The refineries are already running at full compacity. We will not have cheaper gas until we build more refineries. The Dems already approved off shore drilling 50 miles from coasts. They say no will drill because of the refineries. I would rather money be spent to an alternative fuel with a replenishable quality inherent in the fuel. Oil is used for so much more than just gas, we should save it for those needs. I am tired of being poor as a result of gas prices. AGREED SHUT UP TREE HUGGERS
so you got the money to cover all the new alternate energy vehicles cause last i heard the carmakers wanted bailed out too..cause we're broke, the middle class can't buy alternative new cars..it's a transition..not overnight crud..stop hr 6899 pelosi has a loose screw..she'd rather give OUR oil off the coast to CHINA than US have it..store it til we refine it..build a few refineries..its worth it..
Dell, I agree we should build more refineries. Didnt you send me the vid about the cops putting in the hho gas/water converters? This is doable. And no I dont have the money. Middle class...hell Im destitute. Im tired of being ripped off. You know that they are attacking the middle class and small business owners. Oil for blood..this will continue until we tell them to shove their oil, their taxes, and their wars up their ass. I do want to pay less at the pump, but Im tired of slavery
yes become a corp..get some cheap labor..that's their trade agenda..screw the greedy american middle class..hell they voted for us, didn't they..that's how they think..while they laugh their ass off..i know..disgusting..become self sufficient as you can, crud..be creative
I know you are and I am trying. Im just so tired of being broke and watching ppl die while Rothchild has half of the worlds wealth. Bleeding us all by taxing our lives away. I am so angry by this. Luv ya
We need to drill offshore but we also need to build the refineries that we should have built 10 years ago. Without the ability to put oil into service quickly the prices still remain higher.
The weakness of the American dollar accounts for about 30% of what we are paying for gas.
Until we do address all of these issues, we will continue to pay more and more until substitute energy sources are economically feasible in about 10 to 15 years.
I think Americans should stop winning. Gas is $6 in other counties. This just forces people to drive more conservatively which is good for the environment. By drilling in the US you are saying its OK for corporations to wreak havoc on my backyard. In some places its OK. But keep in mind this is helping corporations not you. This is a global market.
Oil shale drilling is VERY water intensive. Water is rare in those areas. Also the byproduct of making oil shale is alot of waste they need to figure out there to put all that waste.
thats the key,you stoneagepeople, hang on to the old ,dont change die with nothing then destruction on your acccount.we live in a world of constant change ,what makes you think it should be always the same for the demand of transportation? you use a lighter or flintstones??
Using new information obtained from studies of old Soviet files in Moscow and now the famous Vanona Intercepts -- FBI recordings of Soviet embassy communications between 1944-48 -- the record is showing that McCarthy was essentially right. He had many weaknesses, but almost every case he charged has now been proven correct. Whether it was stealing atomic secrets or influencing U.S. foreign policy, communist victories in the 1940s were fed by an incredibly vast spy and influence network.
Drill here and Drill NOW get our own oil. We need to be energy independent!!! America runs on oil and most of the world does too. Nothing does it better than OIL.
Ford builds cars in Europe that deliver 60+ MPG... TODAY!
Your Cheney/Bush regime will not ALLOW those vehicles to be sold in the US.
Ford is pressing the Cheney regime for the right to sell them. (Ford sales aren't too good here lately.) Cheney says they MAY be ALLOWED to sell them in PERHAPS a year and a half.
(The destruction of the US middle class should be WELL under way by then.)
NOTE: 60 MPG means your fuel bill would be cut by TWO THIRDS, the same as paying $1.35 per gallon of gas.
Certain cars were not allowed to be marketed here in the past because they were deemed unsafe, because they didn't pass safety standards. The English car, the Mini is a great example.
I am aware of that. I also am aware that the US auto industry did their best to keep cars out of the US that were better built than their own and sold at lower prices. We kept much of them out using import duties and taxes to artifically raise their prices.
Ford claims that their EU 60 MPG cars are as "safe" as US models & that they want to sell them here.
Ford says that the US government (oil people)are fighting their efforts.
The US allows the sale of the SMART FORTWO, a dangerous car.
What's funny is the price of gas is falling for the simple reason that consumption has dropped. Suppliers in Texas are saying at the end of summer the price is expected to drop below $3/gallon. Price goes up, people drive less, by smaller more fuel efficient cars, use alternatives like mass transport more. No need to drill in environmentally sensitive areas for oil that won't add to the supply for 7 years and even then won't reduce the price significantly.
More important the the price issue, it is unwise to depend on foreign sources for such a vital resource an oil. Energy independence should be reason enough.
Regarding price, there are many factors which effect it. While you cite some the demand factors, there are supply side issues, as well; issues such as political stability (US vs Mid-East) and future supply (as in more oil in 7yrs, lower prices today). Also, a weaker OPEC means a stronger free market, which means lower prices/greater supply.
Obama is against clean, safe, & cheap nuclear energy so that we rely more on coal pollution and further bankrupt America pursuing technologies that aren't anywhere near ready OR even effective at taking a dent out of our growing need. Obama's against domestic energy exploration.
John McCain has the leadership & experience to know we need to DO EVERYTHING we can to solve our energy crisis & not continue to pay $700 billion to foreign oil exporters a year!
listen america we in the u.k are paying more then 13 dollars a gallon think yourself lucky.the days of cheap gas have gone and wont ever come back again. just today british gas put there prices up by 35% for domestic customers with immediate affect, there is gonne be a lot of old ppl dying frm the cold this winter in england, but do the oil companys or the governments care? not even a little bit there shear holders are making a nice profit and thats all that matters. how sad is that ?
not only are gas prices ridiculous, it causes our food prices to go up. and the biggest issue is not only are prices rising, unemployment is at its highest since the mid 80s. how are people supposed to survive? i know endless amounts of people who have been laid off and have to sell their homes and claim bankruptcy. this country is going to shit.
id say fuck gas prices an fuck riding a bike to work because its too damn dangerous in my area an i drive a van that gets 14mpg and if people have a problem with that, thats too bad
you all americas, you would not addicted if you would not drive fat V8 engine Cars and that! come clear! and drive smaller cars!! man is that so hard for you???
The further our country goes in debt, the weaker our dollar becomes. Right now America is 9 and a half trillion dollars in debt. You can blame our useless president and the Federal Reserve Bank! Gas prices have not gone up, our dollar is shrinking! Our dollar no longer has any buying power!
some people need a truck if you work in construction etc if you tow a trailer some don't those are the ones who should be driving a better feul economy car
first you have to increase refinery capacity it will take years to start drilling and would have little effect alberta has doubled their out put in the last few years and prices still have gone up if bush wasn't such a dick he would talk to chavez let him spend his oil money to help his people and the prices would drop but he wants chavez to lend back the oil money like the saudies do also depleting your small reserves is not really an answer to the problem bring back the 3 cyl suzuki 50+mpg
Trust me- if drilling were the answer- I'd say put an oil rig in my front yard. Drilling here, drilling now in reality means drilling here for slight increases in production 5 years from now. Or we could get out the flux capacitor and warp back to 1970 when the US produced 20mil/bpd :)
No offense taken. I understand economics quite well and I wish the answer were as simple as you are making it out to be. Sure, let's open the OCS and ANWR- we should have done this years ago. The problem now is that supply is in terminal decline. We don't have spare offshore rigs sitting around waiting to be deployed. They are booked for years to come and are old rust buckets at best. This doesn't consider the development time either. Best case- 5-10 years before we see a drop.
Oil is a finite resource- period. We should be educating these people regarding energy, not merely offering a short sighted "pseudo-fix". The only way we are going to get ourselves out of this hole we've dug ourselves into is to conserve like never before while we develop and implement alternate energy sources.
Consumers(you people) are soulless. The only way you feel the pain of draining the resources of a planet, is in the material way, your pocketbooks. Bunch of soulless, spiritless parasites the lot of ya. Ooh we 'nEed' our cars and such..blah blah blah. You are a cancer upon this Earth, nothing else. Self-serving family empire that can't see beyond the results of your sins and desires.
We're soulless because we want lower fuel costs and to reduce dependence on foreign oil? You libs can never focus on the reality of the situation and come up with a realistic solution. LETS START DRILLING PEOPLE! don't listen to these bleeding heart tree-huggers.
The US government needs to start their own oil company. Hire former petroleum employees and drill on federal lands. Compete against the private oil companies in order to control the prices. After all the oil actually belongs to the American people. Saudi supports their citizens education and medical care from their oil profits.
We pay American farmers to not grow crops. Our farmers could be capitalists and grow industrial hemp (low THC) like Canada and other countries to. We need to get rid of this stupid law. You can't'get high on industrial hemp. It is able to make paper, and you get three crops a year. It is a rotational crop, enriches the soil. You don't need pesticides and fertilizer to grow it like cotton or corn. It does not take corn off the table of the hungry. Ron Paul supports this. We should too.
Were the 3rd top producers of oil, drilling would help. The world will need 50% more in 20 years .China is signing deals everywere to drill and thay could care less about the environmentalist ,China is the 2nd in oil use after the US .Electric cars use coal and environmentalist hate coal .Canada has the 2nd largest oil reserves ,humm I think Canada has WMD's .lol .Mother Earth will be here billions of years long after were gone. One large Asteroid hitting it would do more then we every could.
We as Americans should wake up, there is no such thing as Environmentally Safe Drilling on our land or in our Oceans. Wake up America all the Republican's friends own the oil rights in these areas. If we drill in these places we will destroy the earth and its resourses as we know it. We have the technology to power autos without fossil fuels but the Auto manufactures and Oil Companies have bought it all up and will not release because it will destroy their profits. WAKE UP AMERICA, PLEASE!
screw you tree-hugger, gas is $4.50 per gallon in california and it is killing the economy. Drill in the grand canyon, drill in Yosemete, drill off the coast......anything to lower dependence on foreign oil and lower the price of gas!!
hi flores9 think yourself lucky your only paying $4.50 a gallon in the states in england i payed $13.00 a gallon today and they say it will be $15-16 by september it bloody goes up everyday much more of this and we will all be riding horses and knee deep in horse shit best wishes mate
papayankee, thanks for the kind words mate! I feel for you....$13 per gallon is crazy. I hope to God it never goes that high here....but it might if the libs have their way. Lets start drilling!
Oil production worldwide has remained on a plateau since about 2005. Worldwide demand has continued to increase. $4.50 gas is merely a product of the two. Yea, we should probably drill here to reduce our dependence on the imports but that will not lower the price. Oil is traded on an international market.
no offense plainjane, but you need to take an ecomonics class. If we drill here and increase supply, the price will go down. Increased competition for foreign markets will also cause price to decrease.
Please tell me exactly when and how much US oil will be flooding the markets. Reserves mean nothing. Peaking in production is about flow rates. If reserves were the issue, we would have been home free when they discovered the tar sands. Lots of reserves, nearby, friendly country.
Not that I consider myself a "Lib", but I would differ with the do nothing part. I would replace that with conserve and develop alternatives. As far as watching gas go to $10.00/gallon- it will even if we open up ANWR and the OCS tomorrow. It's called reality, but you just can't seem to accept it.
Why can't people get it through their thick sculls that drilling for more domestic oil and developing alternative sources ARE NOT MUTUALLY EXCLUSIVE!! Why is that so damn difficult?
THE PRICE OF GAS HAS NOT GONE UP. The value of the dollar has just gone down! in 1947 a gallon of gasoline cost about 25 cents. A 1947 quarter contained 1/4 ounce of silver which is worth.. guess what! over $4.50. Which means, THE VALUE OF GAS HAS GONE DOWN. Wakeup people these are shell games.
The government collects almost DOUBLE what the oil company makes per gallon. The underlying problem is ignored. This is misinformation.
This is so pathetic. You'd think the oil lobby could afford better videos since their industry is reporting its highest profit margins in history and all.
When you think of gas prices, remember this: Crude oil is formed when methane gas is compressed at 20,000 feet. We will never be out of oil despite the hype that the oil companies would like you to believe. Oil does not come from dead dinosaurs, nor does it have any organic properties. The sun drives atoms into the crush of the Earth that is then compressed and turned into crude oil. The oil companies found this out in the late 1970s, but have kept that knowledge from us to control pricing.
If you think this will lower prices at the pump, think again: oil production from the Outer Continental Shelf (or OCS) wouldn't even begin until 2017 because we don't have the infrastructure -- the network of platforms and hundreds of miles of pipelines -- needed to support expanded drilling. And even the administration's own economists point out that it will have an "insignificant" impact on prices at the pump. That is 7 years after the first plugin hybrids will begin appearing on the market.
American economy = completely dependent on over-the-road shipping. If trucking becomes too expensive we all lose. I hope you marxist morons figure this out before its too late.
LOL seems like the only ones she interview were people on welfare. Not all of them.
@ $4.00 a gallon isn't hurting me to bad. Not that i like it. I can live with up to 3.24 EUR a liter. Anything over that, then I'll have to start cutting out some driving around.
$10.00 USD = £6.48 EUR
But if the European Union suffered if they had to pay £6.48 a liter, then I'll suck it up and be willing to pay $10.00 a gallon.
the price of oil has been driven up the the traders on wall street then traders in Europe and Asia jumped on the gas wagon if Americans want cheaper gas and cheaper food only one thing to do execute traders on wall street
Europeans have got to be laughing at this. They have been paying something like 6$/gallon for a long time which is why fuel efficient cars are popular there.
Educate yourselves America, your being raped by politicians, Look up this name. Craig R. Smith on the net. Stop the illegals from the invaison and educate yourselves.
Explores the international and domestic politics of oil production and consumption, including the wealth and power of major oil conglomerates, and the manipulation of world economies by oil-producing nations and rogue terrorist regimes. In this book, the authors expose the fraudulent science that has made America so vulnerable.
why start now. Last yr was the biggest yr in sales of SUV's. So why complaine now? Weve been heading for this for 30 yrs and did nothing to stop it. We let politicians who are not any more experienced than you make our decisions. While thay will jump into bed with big business for prower and control. Just like the Mafia did, and Hitler did. Kill there own for power. Wake up america, you are the boss , not the politician. But you are not educated. And you want to go to the Beach,Wake up!!!
The democrats not letting "us" drill the reason why gas is high. BTW who is "us" do any of you own a drilling or oil company. Finding more oil for oil companies will just make them richer. The weak American dollar is responsible for much of the gas prices and you do have Bush to thank for that.
Americans are stupid if their biggest worry is gas prices they are trully dumb. Wow I can't believe these people think if we let "them" them drill gas will go down. Who do these dumbasses think "them" are. If a oil company hits a big pocket they are not going to flood the market to lower prices. Flooding the market with cheap oil is not in the best interest of any oil company. Stop using it thats the only way.
china's going to drill in the US territory and US don't do shit, is that possible? if you want a war with china go ahead and start it already, stop shooting these cold bullets behine someone's back and fool your own people asshole
The US economy would probably go into a severe depression if we went to war with China...What country do you think supplies most of our goods? No goods, no buying, no selling, no money exchange, no paying employees, no food, etc.
In my small town, the only jobs avail are the $200'ish a week check unless one works union jobs on construction/painting in states all over the US. as it is.. I know people who probably couldn't survive if not for food stamps. They eat for 2 weeks on that then rely on fishing to feed them the other 2 weeks. Isn't the american dream that if you want it bad enough that you can get it? thats getting lost with many other dreams... I don't know what to do about it.. but i hope someone does.
Yeah it's called a dream for a reason. Sadly reality has other things to say about Americans obsession with accelerating living standards being sustainable.
Americans complaining about other countries dilling in their land is as Hypocrite as Bush supporting McCain after the 2004 election ...oh wait he did HYPOCRITES!!!
Yeah it's pretty typical how this vid tries to make it seem China is going to drill in American territory of the coast of Florida (Cuba, duh). But when did cons ever let the truth get in the way huh?
I agree with Bogeyfire on the first point about the futures market. We are doing it to ourselves in that regard. A year and a half ago Exxon posted 25 Billion dollar profit after 2 quarters. There's no way they making only 4 percent.
You're kidding yourselves if you think by drilling here that the oil companies are going to pass any savings on to us.
It's time to his OPEC where it hurts by moving on to hydrogen technologies and get off the middle east tit.
I completely agree about hydrogen. Apparently, the problem isn't the car technology, but the high energy it requires to separate H from H2O.
I posted on the American Solutions Lab that we should use small nuclear plants like those used in US warships to power the hydrogen plants / refineries. Those plants are very reliable and everyone wins, including the environment.
Still need oil for plastics and diesel / trucking. H-cars are not powerful enough to haul freight.
yes, protest about that then..I am not American. I never seen american protest in big number. that' what I think is weird. what do American goverment do to you? American goverment do nothing. you don't even have medical insurance given from your country. why American don't protest something unfair???
You say you are not American. But I looked at your profile that says you are American! Your primary language is obviously not English. Where are you from? And why are you in the US complaining about medical insurance? We give all sorts of medical treatment to people here illegally. What's your beef?
The taxes have not changed in years. The oil profits are steady at 4%. But oil has doubled. Your steroids are interfering with your thought process. Taxes and 4% profits have nothing to do with the 50% oil increase.
The problem is A) The futures market with nervous and greedy investors, and B) OPEC. They have us by the balls because we won't drill our own oil.
Your asinine arrogance is is interfering with your reading comprehension.
The reason the future markets are "nervous" is due to the fact that America is too dependent on foreign oil.
OPEC "has us by the balls", because Libtards in Congress refuse to drill where we know more oil is located.
The idiot Liberal Democrats recently demanded that OPEC INCREASE oil output to help get America's gas prices lowered. OPEC told the Libtards to fuck off.
Your last post seemed to blame the oil company profits and government taxes. I disagreed because those two rates have not significantly changed.
Now, from your last comment you apparently agree with me that it is the futures marketeers and that we are dependent! (Not drilling our own) I'm glad you've seen the light.
If we want to make changes, we have to know what the change is. Congress opening up drilling will address both those issues. I signed my petition. I hope you signed too.
gas should be 20 dollars a gallon. mabey people would think about how they use it.. people would start thinking long and hard about living in suburbs... mabey we'd actually use public transportation like the rest of the fucking world.
It doesn't work that way I'm afraid. I'm so sick of you thick people. And the reason I'm not going to bother putting any facts into this comment is I've said it all like 10 times in comments to "Gas Price" related videos. All I ever get to detailing the facts though is a lack of a response or a New World Order conspiracy theory shoved in my face. I'm not going to bother trying to argue with you tards anymore. You know fuck all about Oil.
If we started now it would take 10 years to get all the deep-water wells set up off the US Coast, the wells in ANWR, and the rest of the support, production and transport infrastructure up before the production would even start. Then a few years after that in the 2020's you'd get good flow rates. That's a long time away. Not to mention there's not much oil in ANWR, etc. 1-2 years of global supply is all. Plus the production capacity would only be a few million barrels a day at it's peak in 2030.
Enycertifiedg, I totally agreed with you. In order for the world to change it's way of living, the price of gas has to be unaffordable (or very expensive). Otherwise, human being will not stop driving gas guzzer vehicles and polluting the world.
When driving on the road today, count how many SUV or big truck with only 1 passenger. Is that really necessary?
Yeah and farmers will stop driving tractors; crop yields will fall. Farmers will stop using other oil based products (fertilisers, pesticides); crop yields will fall further. They'll stop using articulated lorries and trucks to transport their remaining produce as well; everyone will starve. But at least everyone will have changed their way of living! In fact they won't be "living" at all anymore. Yay! Go high oil prices! Yay!
Lol. "billions of natural gas and oil..." You realise if you want to make a convincing argument you might try augumenting your strategy of putting large numbers into your comment with these things called "units of measurement". So what did you mean? Cubic feet? Barrels? Metric Tonnes? You realise humans consumes 31 billion barrels of oil approx. every YEAR. Even if there were 100 billion barrels of oil in ANWR (which there aren't) it would only last 3 years? IF you could extract it all at once.
Ok, I have a few questions about yearly incomes around the world and comparative fuel prices. Just reply back with your country, yearly salary and your fuel price per gal. (converted to US dollars. Not that I can't google it but it would make it faster.
But nobody should listen to me anyway, I think high gas prices are a good thing, though it is sad gas companies get all the money instead of the government. It creates a market for more efficient cars and mass transit. Finally, I don't know why it took so damn long...
Paid for by your friendly oil companies making several billion $ per quarter...
I think yall should look up some facts at the CIA factbook about this stuff. First, its not like the USA hoards all of the oil extracts for itself so we can have the oil for ourself for really cheap. Crude is a global commodity and the companies who would be extracting oil from ANWR, Roan Plateau, etc are international companies. Fact: 1 million bbl/d were exported in 2004.
this is funny to watch being canadian 45 dollars?:) canada pays like 100 $ you shouldnt complain cuz canadians still drive across the border to fill up
Have either the Democrats or the Republicans come up with the obvious solutions? Windfall profits taxes were tried under Carter, and we know what happened. Trusting the "market" was tried by the Republicans and we see what has happened...The answer: Suspend all futures trading, nationalize all domestic energy. It is still not too late to halt an imminent depression if we act immediately. I also favor publishing the oil company balance sheets.
The time when oil is less plentiful is NOW. The last 2 years oil exports to us net importing countries fell 2 million barrels a day while demand continues to grow exponentially.
The money we're spending on gasoline, we could use it instead to nominate simple folks "like ourselves" to run for congress and the senate. Then when elected we could pass laws to drill for more oil, build refineries, and create our own "peoples oil company".
The price of fuel is not really supply and demand. The price fuel is dictated by our currency being devalued by the US Federal Reserve Bank. The Fed is flooding the aggregate M3 market with trillions of extra dollars. Our M3 growth is at 15% and our recessionary growth is at 2%. 15-2=13% INFLATION. Our currency is being diluted and our purchasing power is being diluted. The price of oil is not going up our dollar is going down.
M3minusGrowth, where do you get your facts from? The cureency is down in value, you are correct. However, the price of oil is also up, because our dollar is down.
How does one devalue the purchasing price of the currency in order to make consumers spend more of there income, and make them work longer hours to make ends meet? It is called artificial inflation created by our Central Bank, and Central Banks world-wide. If a countries monetary is increasing at a higher rate than economic growth you get INFLATION. Research what is happening with other Central Banks World-Wide and see if there is a banking collusion going on. Central Banks COMMAND EVERYTHING!
Then check out your monetary policies in the EU. The EU has a Central Bank and you must find out what the M3 or aggregate money supply rate is in percentage, and then find out what the projected economic growth will be this year in the EU in %. M3-Econ Growth= Inflation Rate. The EU's Central Bank is most likely working in collusion with other central banks to create inflation which steals more wealth from consumers. Monetary policies of Central Banks world-wide are creating FAKE INFLATION.
Look I dunno what an M3 is but I know a bit about the world's oil supply at the moment and I'm inclined to believe the current price superspike is more to do with peak oil than a conspiracy.
M3 is the Aggregate Money Supply in a Economy. The US Federal Reserve Bank creates money out of thin air. It lends the money to the US Treasury and the Treasury sells bonds, Bills, and Notes with interest to pay for the money they receive d from the Fed. As taxpayers were flip the bill for the interest on these Bonds, Bills, and Notes that M3 is created from. If M3 increases faster than economic growth of a economy it dilutes the currency already in circulation. Its like watering down alcohol.
"Money as Debt" says something similar. But you've got to ask yourself why is economic growth stalling or even receeding? Could it be because Resource Growth x the efficiency of conversion processes = economic growth and the resource growth of the most important resource (Oil) has stalled. Net exports from the oil exporting countries are down by 2 million barrels a day. Production is on a virtual plateau. I'd bet my life savings on it being the cause of the stagnation of global economic growth.
So what do you want us to do? Sit around and wait for Armaggeddon and for super high oil prices to cause worldwide chaos? Cuz there's nothing we can about it, right?
Sorry, I'd rather we do something productive and try to hold off the disaster as long as we can, while in the meantime try our best to develop alternative energy.
Who do you think will be doing the oil drilling off our coasts? A nationalized government drilling company of nonprofit or a maximizing profits and minimizing costs corporation? By the time the oil starts flowing gas prices will be around 6 to 7 dollars per gallon. The corporations are not in business to be stupid. They will sell the oil at the global market rate to China or India because of the G8 and trade agreements with foreign countries. Your drill now means more oil for China and India.
When you water down a mixed drink at a bar you more mixed drink capability but with less bite. There are three bars on a street the US, UK, Switzerland and all three have different mixed drink policies and each bar the drink are stronger than the next one. The US Federal Reserve Bank is diluting our currency (mixed drinks) at a faster rate than our own economy can produce high quality alcohol. The US consumer getting beer when they should be getting whiskey.
Nice analogy about the beer. I do agree that the way our money supply works is ridiculous. How it can be created out of thin air as long as the amount is a certain ratio to the amount of money a bank has in deposit (the fractional reserve). But now since debt is counted as a qualifier for the lending of money at the fractional reserve ratio, then all our money is based on now is DEBT, not gold or anything real. Debt! An imaginary concept. It's crazy.
Then, you add into the mix: the ridiculous gas prices, the subprime mortgage crisis, the weak USD, the 2,000 point drop inthe DJIA last year, the housing prices plummetting, foreclosures at an all time high, the list goes on and on and on!
Almost all economic indicators are downand have been since last year.
No matter how you look at it, this country is not doing well right now. In fact, if it gets much worse economically, I think we may be on the brink of ruin.
The bigger they are the harder they fall - Sorry America.....HEY USED TO HIGH/er GAS PRICES, THEY ARE NO BIG OIL RESERVES ANYMORE !! - **OMG DELUDED AMERICANS ALERT** 'It's we'll find some more oil' - NOT !
Economic growth/prosperity wasn't even considered a big issue until after the Carter administration. I don't know why people think it is such a big deal now. The US is not in that as big of an economic crisis as we are made to believe (more of a slow suicide). We are just in a time of change (hopefully for the better). Most of us still have plenty to eat and roofs over our heads. This change could also bring about new opportunity (and I don't necessarily mean for economic prosperity).
cclodfe said: "I don't know why people think it is such a big deal now. The US is not in that as big of an economic crisis as we are made to believe (more of a slow suicide)."
You must listen to Rush Limbaugh. I like Rush, but I think he's wrong on this issue. The Fed has cut interest rates 7 times since August last year to try to avoid a recession. We've had close to 0% economic growth for last 2 quarters - the norm is 3%. GDP has fallen, NFP last Friday was the worst since 1986, etc, etc
Well big oil is not really to blame in this case like everyone seems to think. Shell's profit margin is 9% compared to microsoft's 30%. The problem is the liberal tree huggers who will not let us drill the gulf coast, california or alaska. an oil field larger than saudi arabia's was recently discovered under North Dakota, but due to B.S. environmental regulations, we are unable to drill. Drilling does not have an evironmental impact when done properly. We can thank liberal bastards for high gas
As a British person, I HATE Americans for this.

We need to drill offshore but we also need to build the refineries that we should have built 10 years ago. Without the ability to put oil into service quickly the prices still remain higher.
The weakness of the American dollar accounts for about 30% of what we are paying for gas.
Until we do address all of these issues, we will continue to pay more and more until substitute energy sources are economically feasible in about 10 to 15 years.
tuttle572 3 years ago
I think Americans should stop winning. Gas is $6 in other counties. This just forces people to drive more conservatively which is good for the environment. By drilling in the US you are saying its OK for corporations to wreak havoc on my backyard. In some places its OK. But keep in mind this is helping corporations not you. This is a global market.

NOTE: 60 MPG means your fuel bill would be cut by TWO THIRDS, the same as paying $1.35 per gallon of gas.
t4705mb6 3 years ago
Certain cars were not allowed to be marketed here in the past because they were deemed unsafe, because they didn't pass safety standards. The English car, the Mini is a great example.
packrat76 3 years ago
I am aware of that. I also am aware that the US auto industry did their best to keep cars out of the US that were better built than their own and sold at lower prices. We kept much of them out using import duties and taxes to artifically raise their prices.
Ford claims that their EU 60 MPG cars are as "safe" as US models & that they want to sell them here.
Ford says that the US government (oil people)are fighting their efforts.
The US allows the sale of the SMART FORTWO, a dangerous car.
t4705mb6 3 years ago
What's funny is the price of gas is falling for the simple reason that consumption has dropped. Suppliers in Texas are saying at the end of summer the price is expected to drop below $3/gallon. Price goes up, people drive less, by smaller more fuel efficient cars, use alternatives like mass transport more. No need to drill in environmentally sensitive areas for oil that won't add to the supply for 7 years and even then won't reduce the price significantly.
kbs1138 3 years ago
More important the the price issue, it is unwise to depend on foreign sources for such a vital resource an oil. Energy independence should be reason enough.
Regarding price, there are many factors which effect it. While you cite some the demand factors, there are supply side issues, as well; issues such as political stability (US vs Mid-East) and future supply (as in more oil in 7yrs, lower prices today). Also, a weaker OPEC means a stronger free market, which means lower prices/greater supply.

Trust me- if drilling were the answer- I'd say put an oil rig in my front yard. Drilling here, drilling now in reality means drilling here for slight increases in production 5 years from now. Or we could get out the flux capacitor and warp back to 1970 when the US produced 20mil/bpd :)
plainjane6476 3 years ago

We should too.

flores9 3 years ago
Oil production worldwide has remained on a plateau since about 2005. Worldwide demand has continued to increase. $4.50 gas is merely a product of the two. Yea, we should probably drill here to reduce our dependence on the imports but that will not lower the price. Oil is traded on an international market.
plainjane6476 3 years ago
no offense plainjane, but you need to take an ecomonics class. If we drill here and increase supply, the price will go down. Increased competition for foreign markets will also cause price to decrease.
flores9 3 years ago

THE PRICE OF GAS HAS NOT GONE UP. The value of the dollar has just gone down! in 1947 a gallon of gasoline cost about 25 cents. A 1947 quarter contained 1/4 ounce of silver which is worth.. guess what! over $4.50. Which means, THE VALUE OF GAS HAS GONE DOWN. Wakeup people these are shell games.
The government collects almost DOUBLE what the oil company makes per gallon. The underlying problem is ignored. This is misinformation.
razorx71 3 years ago
This is so pathetic. You'd think the oil lobby could afford better videos since their industry is reporting its highest profit margins in history and all.
frellthat 3 years ago
Profit margins for oil companies have been shrinking for years, profits are at a record high. Now go and find out the difference.
jarvis1211 3 years ago 2
When you think of gas prices, remember this: Crude oil is formed when methane gas is compressed at 20,000 feet. We will never be out of oil despite the hype that the oil companies would like you to believe. Oil does not come from dead dinosaurs, nor does it have any organic properties. The sun drives atoms into the crush of the Earth that is then compressed and turned into crude oil. The oil companies found this out in the late 1970s, but have kept that knowledge from us to control pricing.
drtyrell969 3 years ago
If you think this will lower prices at the pump, think again: oil production from the Outer Continental Shelf (or OCS) wouldn't even begin until 2017 because we don't have the infrastructure -- the network of platforms and hundreds of miles of pipelines -- needed to support expanded drilling. And even the administration's own economists point out that it will have an "insignificant" impact on prices at the pump. That is 7 years after the first plugin hybrids will begin appearing on the market.

It's around £5.00 per gallon here now which on the current US-UK exchange rate works out at roughly $10. Try that on for size.

Corporations run everything and people are not even paying attention.
They are in it for the money they do not care about us!
They even make big buck off the oil wars and prevent electric cars from being mass produced.

We let politicians who are not any more experienced than you make our decisions. While thay will jump into bed with big business for prower and control. Just like the Mafia did, and Hitler did. The democrats not letting "us" drill the reason why gas is high. BTW who is "us" do any of you own a drilling or oil company. Finding more oil for oil companies will just make them richer. The weak American dollar is responsible for much of the gas prices and you do have Bush to thank for that.
702decatur 3 years ago
Americans are stupid if their biggest worry is gas prices they are trully dumb. Wow I can't believe these people think if we let "them" them drill gas will go down. Who do these dumbasses think "them" are. If a oil company hits a big pocket they are not going to flood the market to lower prices. Flooding the market with cheap oil is not in the best interest of any oil company. Stop using it thats the only way.

JB4375 3 years ago
I completely agree about hydrogen. Apparently, the problem isn't the car technology, but the high energy it requires to separate H from H2O.
I posted on the American Solutions Lab that we should use small nuclear plants like those used in US warships to power the hydrogen plants / refineries. Those plants are very reliable and everyone wins, including the environment.
Still need oil for plastics and diesel / trucking. H-cars are not powerful enough to haul freight.

Why don't American protest the
State and Federal Governments making more money in TAXES than the oil companies make in profits??
In 2004 the Oil companies total profit since 1977 was $643 billion.
Total State Taxes were $810 billion.
Total Federal Taxes were $533 billion.
We have paid more than double in Taxes than oil companies made in profits!

polychurro,
You say you are not American. But I looked at your profile that says you are American! Your primary language is obviously not English. Where are you from? And why are you in the US complaining about medical insurance? We give all sorts of medical treatment to people here illegally. What's your beef?
Bogeyfire 3 years ago
AngryAmerican,
The taxes have not changed in years.
Bogeyfire 3 years ago
Bogeyfire,
Your asinine arrogance is is interfering with your reading comprehension.
OPEC told the Libtards to fuck off.
angryamerican 3 years ago
Your last post seemed to blame the oil company profits and government taxes. I disagreed because those two rates have not significantly changed.
Now, from your last comment you apparently agree with me that it is the futures marketeers and that we are dependent! (Not drilling our own) I'm glad you've seen the light.
If we want to make changes, we have to know what the change is. Congress opening up drilling will address both those issues. I signed my petition. I hope you signed too.
Bogeyfire 3 years ago
I had already subscribed to Newt Gingrich's You Tube Channel and already signed the petition.
With gas prices averaging $4.00 a gallon Americans are now finally pulling their heads out of their asses and starting to hold Congress acountable.
China is drilling off the coast of Florida, but the Democratically controlled Congress won't let America do so. I blame Congress 100%.
Also look at the 3rd post on this video. I stated this already.

It doesn't work that way I'm afraid. I'm so sick of you thick people. All I ever get to detailing the facts though is a lack of a response or a New World Order conspiracy theory shoved in my face. I'm not going to bother trying to argue with you tards anymore. You know fuck all about Oil.
Lawnmower233 3 years ago
If we started now it would take 10 years to get all the deep-water wells set up off the US Coast, the wells in ANWR, and the rest of the support, production and transport infrastructure up before the production would even start. Then a few years after that in the 2020's you'd get good flow rates. That's a long time away. Not to mention there's not much oil in ANWR, etc. 1-2 years of global supply is all. Plus the production capacity would only be a few million barrels a day at it's peak in 2030.
Lawnmower233 3 years ago
Enycertifiedg, I totally agreed with you. In order for the world to change it's way of living, the price of gas has to be unaffordable (or very expensive). Otherwise, human being will not stop driving gas guzzer vehicles and polluting the world.
When driving on the road today, count how many SUV or big truck with only 1 passenger. Is that really necessary?
unek1der 3 years ago
Yeah and farmers will stop driving tractors; crop yields will fall. Farmers will stop using other oil based products (fertilisers, pesticides); crop yields will fall further. They'll stop using articulated lorries and trucks to transport their remaining produce as well; everyone will starve. But at least everyone will have changed their way of living! In fact they won't be "living" at all anymore. Yay! Go high oil prices! Yay!
Lawnmower233 3 years ago
We have billions of natural gas and oil in this country. There is no reason not to drill for it.
Jane1620 3 years ago
Lawnmower233 3 years ago

stustarkenberry 3 years ago
But nobody should listen to me anyway, I think high gas prices are a good thing, though it is sad gas companies get all the money instead of the government. It creates a market for more efficient cars and mass transit. Finally, I don't know why it took so damn long...
jeenrid 3 years ago
Paid for by your friendly oil companies making several billion $ per quarter...
I think yall should look up some facts at the CIA factbook about this stuff. First, its not like the USA hoards all of the oil extracts for itself so we can have the oil for ourself for really cheap. Crude is a global commodity and the companies who would be extracting oil from ANWR, Roan Plateau, etc are international companies. Fact: 1 million bbl/d were exported in 2004.
Educate yourself more is all I ask...

I also favor publishing the oil company balance sheets.
seneca67 3 years ago
so I suppose we can be outraged, or I suppose we can finally start investing in renewable energy and fuel efficient vehicles.
westonAnd 3 years ago
Yes indeed, if we don't invest in renewables and fuel efficiency now it will be too late when oil is less plentiful.
American cars are 40% less fuel efficient than Europeans. These guys should be saying "Drill here, pay less and forget about tomorrow"
Tony63efc 3 years ago
The time when oil is less plentiful is NOW. The last 2 years oil exports to us net importing countries fell 2 million barrels a day while demand continues to grow exponentially.
Lawnmower233 3 years ago
The money we're spending on gasoline, we could use it instead to nominate simple folks "like ourselves" to run for congress and the senate. Then when elected we could pass laws to drill for more oil, build refineries, and create our own "peoples oil company".
Mardasee 3 years ago
The price of fuel is not really supply and demand. The price fuel is dictated by our currency being devalued by the US Federal Reserve Bank. The Fed is flooding the aggregate M3 market with trillions of extra dollars. Our M3 growth is at 15% and our recessionary growth is at 2%. 15-2=13% INFLATION. Our currency is being diluted and our purchasing power is being diluted. The price of oil is not going up our dollar is going down.
M3minusGrowth 3 years ago
M3minusGrowth, where do you get your facts from? The cureency is down in value, you are correct. However, the price of oil is also up, because our dollar is down.
aquarius6374 3 years ago
How does one devalue the purchasing price of the currency in order to make consumers spend more of there income, and make them work longer hours to make ends meet? It is called artificial inflation created by our Central Bank, and Central Banks world-wide. If a countries monetary is increasing at a higher rate than economic growth you get INFLATION. Research what is happening with other Central Banks World-Wide and see if there is a banking collusion going on. Central Banks COMMAND EVERYTHING!
M3minusGrowth 3 years ago
It's nearly 90 euros a barrel. It's not just dollars it's gone up in.
Lawnmower233 3 years ago
Then check out your monetary policies in the EU. The EU has a Central Bank and you must find out what the M3 or aggregate money supply rate is in percentage, and then find out what the projected economic growth will be this year in the EU in %. M3-Econ Growth= Inflation Rate. The EU's Central Bank is most likely working in collusion with other central banks to create inflation which steals more wealth from consumers. Monetary policies of Central Banks world-wide are creating FAKE INFLATION.
M3minusGrowth 3 years ago
Look I dunno what an M3 is but I know a bit about the world's oil supply at the moment and I'm inclined to believe the current price superspike is more to do with peak oil than a conspiracy.
Lawnmower233 3 years ago
M3 is the Aggregate Money Supply in a Economy. The US Federal Reserve Bank creates money out of thin air. It lends the money to the US Treasury and the Treasury sells bonds, Bills, and Notes with interest to pay for the money they receive d from the Fed. As taxpayers were flip the bill for the interest on these Bonds, Bills, and Notes that M3 is created from. If M3 increases faster than economic growth of a economy it dilutes the currency already in circulation. Its like watering down alcohol.
M3minusGrowth 3 years ago
"Money as Debt" says something similar. But you've got to ask yourself why is economic growth stalling or even receeding? Could it be because Resource Growth x the efficiency of conversion processes = economic growth and the resource growth of the most important resource (Oil) has stalled. Net exports from the oil exporting countries are down by 2 million barrels a day. Production is on a virtual plateau. I'd bet my life savings on it being the cause of the stagnation of global economic growth.
Lawnmower233 3 years ago
I'll get back with you in a few. I want to go buy some Moose Tracks Ice Cream before the store closes.
M3minusGrowth 3 years ago
So what do you want us to do? Sit around and wait for Armaggeddon and for super high oil prices to cause worldwide chaos? Cuz there's nothing we can about it, right?
Sorry, I'd rather we do something productive and try to hold off the disaster as long as we can, while in the meantime try our best to develop alternative energy.
tehkao 3 years ago
Who do you think will be doing the oil drilling off our coasts? A nationalized government drilling company of nonprofit or a maximizing profits and minimizing costs corporation? By the time the oil starts flowing gas prices will be around 6 to 7 dollars per gallon. The corporations are not in business to be stupid. They will sell the oil at the global market rate to China or India because of the G8 and trade agreements with foreign countries. Your drill now means more oil for China and India.
M3minusGrowth 3 years ago
Jesus, stop talking. Stop acting like you have a frickin clue how the "global market" works.
tehkao 3 years ago

M3minusGrowth 3 years ago
When you water down a mixed drink at a bar you more mixed drink capability but with less bite. There are three bars on a street the US, UK, Switzerland and all three have different mixed drink policies and each bar the drink are stronger than the next one. The US Federal Reserve Bank is diluting our currency (mixed drinks) at a faster rate than our own economy can produce high quality alcohol. The US consumer getting beer when they should be getting whiskey.
M3minusGrowth 3 years ago
Nice analogy about the beer. I do agree that the way our money supply works is ridiculous. How it can be created out of thin air as long as the amount is a certain ratio to the amount of money a bank has in deposit (the fractional reserve). But now since debt is counted as a qualifier for the lending of money at the fractional reserve ratio, then all our money is based on now is DEBT, not gold or anything real. Debt! An imaginary concept. It's crazy.

GDP has fallen, NFP last Friday was the worst since 1986, etc, etc
aquarius6374 3 years ago
Well big oil is not really to blame in this case like everyone seems to think. Shell's profit margin is 9% compared to microsoft's 30%. The problem is the liberal tree huggers who will not let us drill the gulf coast, california or alaska. an oil field larger than saudi arabia's was recently discovered under North Dakota, but due to B.S. environmental regulations, we are unable to drill. Drilling does not have an evironmental impact when done properly. We can thank liberal bastards for high gas
