  • I think they did base the character off of Mr. Gaiman

  • He looks like an adult Wybie...

  • i'm sure do!

  • If I wasn't afraid of buttons before, I certainly am now

  • he's like a hotter version of severus snape

  • I want button's for eyes.

  • Well, I wasn't scared of buttons before...

  • If I had to choose a narrator for my life, it wouldn't be a difficult choice.

  • ☻_☻ NEIL GAIMAN RULES!!!

  • 24 years old

Coraline is one of my favorite books, period

I'm so glad the bookstore at my old uni was selling it

    Even gladder that I bought

  • mess his hair up

    give him sunglasses

    have him grow a goatee

and you have Tim Burton's English twin

  • @NickBFilms mess his hair up? what, even more?

  • OMG NO N0T TEH BUTTONZ!

Hahahaha. Popular horror writer concepts are such a laugh.

  • Buttons are disgusting.

  • 01:49 - Ozzy Osbourne lookalike?

  • I want your library

  • I just got koumpounophobia.

  • With the buttons on his eyes he looks a bit like Howard Stern.

  • I think this video has made me frightened of buttons lol

  • The "Other" Neil Gaiman must be rather Boring and Un-Interesting, compared to the Real Neil Gaiman.

  • I LOVE YOU NEIL!

  • What font is "A few words from the author Neil Gaiman" typed in?

  • His smile at the end just killed me...

  • Hehe, I have a good friend who has Koumpounophobia. I considered sending her this, but that would just be cruel.

  • i want buttons in my eyes...that would be freakin' sweet!

  • @CharryChuCinder12 i recommend black, it's traditional

  • Ohhh, dear. Neil Gaiman is now at the top of my list of people to avoid because they creep me out. ;)

  • he always reminds me of snape

  • mans a total boss, dont think anyone else could make something as innocent as buttons creepy

  • And now I have that phobia. Well played, Mr. Gaiman, well played indeed.

  • @HardforJesus: "I just read Twilight, and as awful as it was, it still beats American Gods."

Yeah, but your username betrays that you have problems distinguishing fact from fiction. Why should we expect your skill at discerning bad fiction from good to be any better?

  • Personally, I'm awfully fond of snaps.

  • Neil Gaiman, you are god.

  • 11 people developed coupouniphobia by watching coraline

  • fuck you and your buttons

  • I hate how the movie was all "buttons, buttons, buttons"! Like, OKAY, we get it!

I don't think the ghost children in the wardrobe even had button eyes in the book!

  • Once upon a time....I have buttons I have a leech with buttons we have buttons I LIKE buttons...The end is neat

  • Until watching this video, I thought fear of buttons was ridiculous.

    ...

Now I haven't slept in days, and I can't keep my pants up.

  • 9 people prefer Velcro.

  • Neil Gay Man lol sry :D

  • @dbzsupremewarrior No need to apologise. I'm sure that joke goes down very well on the playground at recess.

  • @bluenoserr are u kiddin me of course it does :P

  • Oh, lordy. I can't even bring myself to watch to the end of this, because I just know he's going to put those buttons up to his eyes and smile. I don't know if I can deal with that; my head might just up and combust. Neil Gaiman, you terrify me in the most wonderful ways imaginable!

  • I want your buttons!

  • I like the part when he talks about buttons.

  • I LOLd at the description box XD

  • You are one scary, scary man, Mr Gaiman

    Please carry on. :)

  • Shame that this trailer is so much better than the movie.

  • God, he's good.

  • i just realized something after watching this video... Neil Gaiman is fucking terrifying.

  • Everybody thumbs up if Neil Gaiman rocks your world!!!

  • You could do a coin trick with the buttons, since you learned it to write "American Gods"...or is there a great difference between coins and buttons on that?

I deeply love your books. Thank you a lot for your work.

  • Stepford what?

  • My chemistry teacher had this unfortunate condition, but she made us try and guess which phobia she had for the entire year of teaching us, giving us a clue every week. Needless to say we were all utterly confused by the clues and when she finally revealed her phobia towards buttons I have to say we all had a chuckle! It really is a day to day phobia unfortunately

  • i enjoy masturbating to neil gaiman's voice

  • now kids, after watching this, i guarantee you

    that you will have koumpounophobia.

btw neil gaiman is pretty awesome ;D

  • Mr. Gaiman, you're a creeper. But I say that in the most respectful, and awestruck way possible.

  • most relaxing voice ever. :)

  • I don't like you Neil Gaiman, you make me not want to wear button clothing.

  • that was pretty fucking awesome

  • OMG NEIL GAY MAN IS SO WINDSWEPT AND INTERESTING, BUTTONS ARE SO OSSIM D00D, I LOVE YOU SO MUCH NEIL GAYMAN, WRITE BACK BABEZ xxx

  • Comment removed

  • @cha5 uliar it's gayman.

  • Neil Gaiman looks and sounds a helluva lot like Jeremy Brett here.

But that was the best movie trailer EVER. Trailers should all be like this. Neil Gaiman just talking about nothing, lol.

  • Wow he seemed to make a talk about buttons seem slightly creepy....weird.

    That's Neil's gift I think...like all the best writers. ;)

  • I want to try his honey.

  • That was the sexiest trailer I have ever seen. Wow.

  • This creeped me out more than i thought it would

  • I like Neil as an author, but, honestly, he's missed the bus on this one. Buttons are scary as hell, Can't explain it, but they've unsettled me since I was a toddler. It's like having a grey alien attached to you shirt....yeah, I'll wear them formally, if necessary, but it's a quite unholy alliance.

  • One of my fave authors, kind of like a (don't take this as an insult, if anything it's a very big compliment) less awesome Tim Burton.

  • Neil to me, is if Tim Burton was an author instead of a director.

  • @Shiek927 really? have you read any of tims poems and short stories? tims stories are more sad and beautiful, like the melancholy death of oyster boy, neils stories are more creepie and stuff... I mean, none of tims movies are really scary i think they are just beautiful but thats just my opinion

  • I wasn't afraid of buttons...until now.

  • ahahaha, neil, you are the best :P

  • I now have a fear of buttons. ]:

  • Oh Neil Gaiman, :] He's wonderful, they way he talks about buttons as being used for cute little things...and yet the way he uses them in the movie in such a creepy way...I Love it! :D

  • I've actually always had a weird heebie-jeebie towards buttons. This, sir, did not help!

  • My ex is koumpounophobic. For five and a half years I wore clothes with no buttons. I'm tempted to send him a link to this video. Is that cruel?

  • @kwraikarn Yes it is. Do it.

  • LOL! =D

  • You're my hero!

  • FUCK YES. Neil Gaiman FTW.

  • neil is cool, i wish garth ennis would do vids like this

  • @dontleademsomuch Me too, I'd love to see a Garth Ennis video promo on the finer points of 'The Boys' (with props of course) although the humorless YouTube thought police would likely go ballistic.

  • lol i love his creepy smile when he holds the buttons over his eyes. gaiman ftw.

  • Gosh, that twas brilliant. I love your wonderfully brittish narrative voice, the wit seems to flow. How extremely tastefull, there's somethings you just can't do with a womans voice...and that's sound like a wizard.

I seem to second MorrocoSurrogate's opinion....er...uh...on *both* matters

  • That us really very frightening.

  • Sort of off-topic, but I'll say it anyway. When I read Sandman, I always read Morpheus' dialogue in Neil's voice. :3

  • Well, I love Neil Gaiman and all his creations,

    (My favourite is "MirrorMask")

And I think an ideal movie would be him, teamed up with Tim Burton!

    They'd be FREAKING AWSOME!!!

  • MirrorMask is amazing.

  • Now I don't say this casually, but I'd just like to say that Neil Gaiman is very sexy

  • u can make anything seem scary can't u neil?

  • That was fantastically creepy-awesome. I'm going to check out the rest of his work now.

  • My heavens. He just exudes gallons of badass, doesn't he? And it's not just the coat. He could wear pink hotpants and a sweater vest and still exude gallons of badass.

Actually, that sounds kind of interesting.

  • Neil Gaiman is awesome! I love Coraline, such a great movie! His smile at the end was bone-chillingly awesome!

  • While I think Neil is a great writer, I don't think he's a very scary one most of the time, his stuff is often more awesome than horror. But his actual appearances, like here or with JoCo? Absolutely pants-wettingly TERRIFYING.

  • Aw, man, the day after I watched this, in the same week that I read and watched Coraline, I walked into my living room and my dad said "Good morning Sylvia" in this creepy voice and when he turned around, he had two buttons over his eyes.

    I freaked out.

  • I actually have a phobia of buttons! It's called koumpounophobia, and it's actually quite common. I can't wear clothes with them on with out feeling uncomfortable, and I have to wash my hands after touching them. I don't even like saying the word!

It's strange, though, I wasn't too scared of Coraline. This video kinda freaked me though.

  • thanks to coraline buttons are creepy

  • Neil, you're so fucking funny! ;)

  • I love Neil Gaiman. And buttons. Black is traditional. :)

  • That smirk at the end was the perfect amount of creepy.

  • I had two friends that suffered from

    Koumpounophobia. Funny, funny, funny.

  • GOD I love him. He's amazing. I loveeed it when he put the buttons to his eyes and was like ^^

  • I love this, but i do think that after watching this; I'll have trouble sleeping tonight. :)

  • lol, how awesome!!!

  • I love this :D Hes a very eerie man . but he is mint

  • Neil Gaiman is the master of making anything creepy.

  • @phishwithextracheese This isn't creepy.

  • You know this is gonna be a creepy video when their is a house with doors you have to open like that 0_0

  • ....................okay, that was creepy 0_0

He definitely knows how to scare you XD. The heart-beat at the end was a nice touch 0_0

  • buttons aren't scary...it just the NEEDLE!

  • I laugh out loud every time I see that creepy button eyed smile. Neil Gaiman is a master storyteller!

  • Hahaha . . . .

  • Wow.

This is one of the best clips I ce ever seen

  • Whoa, that was freaky.

    :)

I loved the part where he put the buttons to his eyes. It was eerie.

  • haha creepy! go NEIL GAIMAN! whoo!

  • haha. Its not the buttons that are scary. Its when you use them to replace your eyes. Something about that idea seems very erie to me....

  • Omg the part where he put the buttons to his eyes and says to be scared of buttons, then he smiles gives me the chills.......lol

  • I love all of Gaiman's work, and I know i'll never look at buttons the same way again ... especially black ones ...

  • Whenever I feel down it helps me to stop and think "Wait, Neil Gaiman exists. Everything will be okay."

If I became half the awesome that he is I'm pretty sure I'd explode.

  • why would you feel that way?

  • @lostpuppyofdoom yeah i have to say this man hands down changed my life. i love him

  • @lostpuppyofdoom : I must say that's the coolest comment in the history of the known universe.

  • i love this video. so. much.

  • AAAHHHH! That was amazing. Neil is amazing.

  • haha! fantastic!

  • he's so awesome.

  • the end was really creepy...

  • "Where's ya' buttons Loper!" WHGAA! I'm RaNdOm!

  • Buttons aren't scary. But NEEDLES ARE!

  • OH MY GOD!!

    BUTTONS!!!!

    hmm, sounds like lemony snicket.

  • Neil, you're such a badass. Without even trying.

  • lolz i actually had a long fear of buttons way before i knew neil gaiman, i never knew it was an actualy fear i tot it was just me

  • This freaks me the fuck out and I'm not sure why. Damn.

  • Wonder if he's a Little Big Planet fan. *ponders*

  • yeah wybie looks like neil..

    i love his books!

im sad that the movie left out so much detail..

  • ....am I the only one that thinks Wybie looks like Neil? Maybe even modeled after him?

  • Maybe since he's not a character in the book(well, according to wikipedia), maybe they added him as an extra for a tribute to the author?

  • You're right. Wybie isn't in the book. But I heard Selick wrote Wybie into the movie so Coraline has someone to talk to (because in the book, she talks to herself a lot, or thinks to herself). And maybe they modeled him after Neil for the reason you previously stated.

  • Wybie is a mix (half white & half black). Neil is British.

  • Yeah, but just LOOK AT THEM!! How can you not see even the slightest resemblance? Their hair styles look kinda the same, and they both have black jackets on.

  • Oh, that's too funny. Can't stop laughing. :)

  • I love "Coraline!"

  • And now I have a fear of buttons....Neil, I love your books and hope to meet you someday

  • He doesnt seem that scary to me. He seems like a sweet man who writes imaginative stories and poems for a living. Many people do far scarier things than that. Open up a copy of your local newspaper, youll see.

  • i love the book and movie!! i also like buttons for eyes........

  • b-b-b-b-bottons.......im scared now

  • Now I'm scared.

    Just scared. XD; OMG.

  • ok he is so cool!!! :D

  • "They take us back to our childhood... They make us happy..."

"Thats irrational... to be scared of buttons."

OMG!!! SCARY!!!!! I love you Neil!

  • OMG. You're from DA, right? =D (I'm mewhaku on there.)

    This is so creepy... XD

  • i am!!!! :D :D

Are you my stalker?!!?!!? FRIENDLY WYBIE-LOVING STALKERS FTW!!!!! *Dances*

  • YES!!! I AM!!!! =D

    *dances along*

  • WOOT-SAUCE! :D

  • OMG. XD lol.

  • Well, I wasn't a koumpounophobia sufferer before... but now!!! Thanks Neil!

  • I lol'd

  • ...he made me scared of buttons :( ...

  • I LOVE HIM!!!! He's so awesome!

  • Hello Neil, I'm Your #1 Fan

  • this reminds me a lot of the intros to the Alfred Hitchcock Presents. it's so subtlety eerie and disturbing.

  • 1:51 wholy SHI#&

  • i saw coraline and i too am a koumpunaphobe

btw did you hear about his contest message me if u want to hear it

  • Oh dammit.

Okay, I'm creeped out. I am creeped the FUCK out.

  • Glorious. Somebody compared Gaiman to Hitchcock. I think there's a bit or Rod Serling here too! Some network needs to snap Neil up as the host of their sci-fi/horror anthology series!

  • Nobody believes me when I tell them buttons are scary when I lend them my copy of Coraline. Three days later, and, well...

(The background music in this just makes everything better/worse)

  • Um, Mr. Gaiman. I live in the United Kingdom and I was wondering...when is Coraline released in theatres over here?
