  • @71GSX455 I do not know where you got that incorrect info from. I was there. I saw stock vettes run 14.80- 15.1. The few GN's we had at MIR ran high 13's all day long. One still had the window sticker pasted to the window. LOL we all laughed at that :>

  • For my money, the 86 and 87 GNs are the coolest cars GM ever made. The chainsaw sound is unmistakable. Even some basic mods yielded my friend 12 second 1/4 miles and a fun ass street car. Love em.

  • not bad for an antique

  • omg it jumped lol wow

  • The 89 Turbo trans Am was also a Corvette killer when it came out running low 13s stock.

  • @MaxPayne72

If GM had not discontinued the Grand National it wouldnt be a rare collector car now!!! I own a 96 Impala SS, Its my first collecters car,and I plan to get a GN one day!!!!

  • @Sniperman1964 i wouldnt call a 96 impala a collectors car

  • @VanCity1604 I wouldnt call a Delorean a collectors car either but it is... Look up the definition of a collector car!!! Pretty much any limited production car, or one that is in high demand because of its historical value!!!!

  • what mods r done to it?

  • Locking the converter in 3rd gear? Sounds like it bogged.

  • Wow great car, Love the look of those GNs. I guess you'd be a fan of the Ozzy XR6 Turbo Falcons too? Lots of them running 8s and 9s with basically stock 4.0ltr straight sixes. Gotta love Turbo big cars :).

  • Is Buick a GM vehicle? This has to be the best all round american car and I would actually buy one looks very executive

  • @TVRnGTR yea it is

  • I first saw one of these back in the late 80s and fell in love with it. I also like the GMC Syclone; both bad ass!! Nice car!

  • great car! nice run!

  • Wicked what size trans are you running. What size injectors

  • impressive Buick Jim.!

  • That's wicked! Streetable too, awesome.

  • Are u running the 2004r and the factory shifter?

  • Yes on the trans. It's built by Vince Janis, with a billet 911 converter. No on the shifter. I put my own Lightning Rods shifter out of an 83 Hurst/Olds so I can use the trans brake in L1 position easier.

  • love Grand Nationals good video

  • holy shit he pulled the fuckin tires off the ground.

  • the turbo helps......and the engin built my mclearen.

  • especially i a V format, with all that moving mass. Not like an Inline 6, that naturally runs more balanced. Wonder what it would do with direct injection.

  • nice my dads runs 10s were shootin for the 9s .........but u got to love the whistle

  • I would buy a GN but they're never for sale!!

  • Huh? You can find them all day long on Ebay... so get off yer wallet. I just bought me one last week.

  • having owned both a monte (86 SS) and a IROC (88 5.7) and driven a GN, the GN would blast both cars out of this world. not even close

a corvette from the same year as a GN is the only one that would stay with it and even like that, it wasnt always a win for the vette

SFI Turbo on an american 3.8L. Ingenuius

  • hell the only reason gm stop making gn's and gnx's is cuz they were out running corvettes and gm didnt want there best car being beaten by any of there own

  • The 1984 Montecarlo ss was the highest stock horespower for the 1980's ss. That Montecarlo ran in the mid 15's for the quarter mile. The stock Grandnational runs in the mid to high 13 seconds, their really isnt any comparison to be made between the two. If you get into aftermarket and talk about a 383 stroked engine with a better gear ratio and then a Grandnational with a better turbo and intercooler then the might run similar. I think the Camero Iroc-Z is closer to the Grand National stock wise

  • I disagree the Monte Carlo Ss's sound look & run better in my opinion

  • You have to be kidding.

A Monte Carlo SS was SLOW. The GN would put bus lengths on it in the quarter mile.

  • a 305 is shit. fastest car of the 80's ringing a bell?

  • I have a GN and a stock monte carlo SS does not run in the same light. A monte with a done up 350 on the bottle does. Mind you, I really like monte's too, not taking anything away from them...very, very nice cars.

  • wtf??Monte Carlo? ar we talking factory ? thats like saying a full grown chimpanzee can beat up a full grown silverback

    :0 way off

  • I bealive the Grand National is the best car from the 80's, it's been about 25 years and the car is already a legend. Thirty years from now it will be on par with the 67 Mustang. What a great car.

  • First v6 car to be dubbed a muscle car, hell yeah I agree, nuff said

  • sweet fucken car man

  • is it still an v6?'

  • YEAH THATS THE EXHUAST V6

  • I want one..

  • I need one of those in my life

  • Sounded like it was breaking up on top end.

  • It did didn't it?

  • Nahw.. thats the turbo baby.

  • Must be the turbine scraping the inside of the housing.lol.Might wanna check that out.

  • i think thats just the wide open exhaust

  • Is it a blasphemy to wonder if GM could (maybe, possibly) create a smart/flex fuel muscle car.. maybe into a new GN?? I mean, its not like they dont have the technology to do so, and with the way GM is looking through the economy, any idea is a great idea. Just saying....

  • Theres no gas stations for it and whats the point?

Some guys run E85 at the track, not as popular as alcohol though.

The only people who run flex fuel on the roads are mostly fleet owners.

  • and ill bet you still managed to get 20mpg lol

  • i love the way it sounds sounds like a rig

  • The thing thats kind of nice about them killing off these cars' productions is that they weren't able to ruin them with newer models. The bad part is theres only so many that were made :(

  • they're comin back with camaro's...who's to say they won't decide to make a new grand national?

  • Yes, lots of good ones have been discontinued, but this powerplant may come back in awesome form in about 9 years when the government puts the kabosh on V8's (sadly). We'll see.

  • i was reading an article in car & driver and they are building a turbo v6 to put in mustang gt's when they do away with v8's. its said to make anywhere from 250 to 300 hp.

  • they aren't doing away with the v8 though, they are bumping it up to a 302 and making it a more highend model.

  • Well the new Camaro makes 300hp out of a N/A V6. So Ford will HAVE TO do something to or about the 4.0L currently in there Mustangs if they want to compete.

  • They should make a Turbo Mustang

  • they did... SVO, years ago. Turbo 2.3L, Huber has one that runs in the 9's on the bumper.

  • Yeah I seen that one. But I was thinkin' they should look into doin' one more in line with the GN. Maybe put turbo in that 4.0 V6 or maybe even in a small block V8

  • They did, and they're making another one soon.

  • @hpjim I know this is two years later but.. wasn't it Chevy that help put this power-plant six feet under? IIRC something about Buick having a faster car than their flag shit vehicle the Corvette.

  • @CrazyTacky Nah. It just turned sideways (transverse) in 88 cuz of the front wheel drive invasion in the late 80's. A supercharger on top replaced the turbo, then it went from 3.8 to a 3800. The Corvette thing was controversial in 1987, for the first time in history the Corvette wasn't the reigning American accelleration king. It was dethroned by a Buick. But not for long...

  • @hpjim Thanks for the reply.. and for all reading my previous comment: "flag shit" was a typo.. I meant "flag ship".

Though now that I read it.. it's kinda funny.

  • @hpjim was not dethroned one magazine had the buick at 13.85 and the vette at 13.97 but trust me i sold many G.N s in 87 and stock they never went better than low 14s.Chipped exhaust and drag radials then they flew.

  • @camirocz Agreed. I had a 1986 Mustang GT 5.0 with bolt ons and exhaust, and I was 3 for 5 against GN's, but only 2 of 4 against 'vettes. A friend had a GN that was chipped like you say, and then it did fly

  • @hpjim Am I missing something? A 3.8 and a 3800 are the same thing.

  • @label1877 uh yeah dude wtf kind of question is that??

  • @CrazyTacky Was not faster than the corvette that is a myth i use to sell grand nationals brand new in 87 and unless it was cold the car couldnt stay near a vette.low 14s thats it.A very cold Motor in a grand national started less than 10 minutes could give a vette a run after that forget it vette all the way!

  • that is a real sleeper!! i like the stance of the way it posted up, cant beat it...

  • Nice run! That's a FAST street GN for sure. I thought my 11 sec GN was quick.....gezzz!!

  • nice run

  • I love it!

  • Yeah and I hear poppin too like has bit of an air leak somewhere.

  • No. It's a TE45A. I have upgraded 4 times to achieve the CFM capable of netting this E.T. My stock turbo would "shutter", this one "coughs" after shut-down.

  • I launch at 23 lbs. of boost, it allows 5 more lbs. to build up after leaving and nets a low 60' time. I don't know what rpm that is.

  • And that is why I want a transbreak this year...leaving at 8-10lbs doesnt do it for me liek it use to : P

  • wow he let off and still ran 10...thats a quick car!

  • sounded liike it was misfiring? damn nice though,, one wheel wheelie
