it sucks how none of your teachers helped you. Teachers at my school stop us from play wrestling, and asks us if we are bullying someone. If someone is crying, they immediately ask what's wrong, even if the teacher doesn't know you. I'm glad you got through it all when you were little.
Thanks for sharing your story. I am so glad that you made it through the bullying. Hopefully it will help other youths get through the bullying. I am a high school math teacher and I am very sorry that your teachers did not help you. When I hear stories like that, it makes me angry and not proud of my profession.
I think it's cool you went to Wakula Highschool.. My cousins live there, and I really like the county, but I think it's terrible that they are in this school district. The way you explain the bullying I hate it. How can people be this mean?
Thanks for this video. I volunteer @ a GLBT crisis line & will refer callers to this vid. I'd add: #1.The best revenge is to be successful in life 2. Things WILL change, be there for that change. If you let them win now, they win; but if you hang in there, you'll overcome. 3. At your 10th high school reunion, they will be the losers/dead-enders and you may even find yourself feeling sorry for them. 4. Forgive... not for them, but for you, so you can let it go and move on with life.
Although I could not bring myself to watch this, I am brought to tears by the kind comments from your subscribers. There is no way to describe how helpless I felt when you were growing up, trying to help you and nobody would help me to help you. You are an angel and I adore you. You are an amazing young man, and I am so proud of you each and every day. I know deep down in my heart that the individuals that did these things to you will pay dearly. *wicked smile*
@shep689mom you are the reason i got through it all. i know that everything they did to me was horrible, but i also know i've already delivered the ultimate comeback: i'm happy, and couldn't be happier. :) love you, mom.
I'm so glad that you are sending this kind of message, people that are going through something similar will benefit so much from hearing about your experience. When I was in my mid-teens I when through some stuff that really affected me and I certainly agree that, as weird as it may seem, it makes you stronger and more aware of your capabilities. In that moment you feel powerless but later in life you come to trust and rely on yourself much more because of what you've overcome.
your a true insperation bullying makes my blood run cold i cannot stand it. i was bullied but not for the same reason i wish someone told me i was going to be ok i just hope people listen to you well done!
The teachers, drivers, administrators who allowed you to be physically and emotionally abused without lifting a finger are more to blame than the stupid kids. It's unbelievable that so many adults could be so callous, mean-spirited, cruel. It's just disgusting that any public school system could have such a collection of cretins at every level.
I feel lucky. I didn't exactly grow up in an accepting environment, but I was at least able to hide myself till I found the right companions. Thanks for sharing your story.
i love you.... and i also sympathize with you because i was bullied because i was foreign(elementary), because i was gay(5th-middle school) and now that i don't get bullied because i moved from the city to the suburbs, its like startin over, so I'm only waiting for 6 more months to go to college... but i still feel if i were to come out bullying would start because as i walk around school i see out gays and lesbians but people talk behind their backs and there is still this hate toward gays
I never dealt with bullying personally, because at my school, the groups that ordinarily became marginalized (nerds, art people, nonathletic people) were actually really strong. I'm glad you made it through and became a great person though, Will.
LOVE YOUR VIDEOS. no but seriously i have been watching for a while and i dont think there has been one i havent enjoyed, no dislikes as of now hopefully it will stay that way. :D keep up the good work
I have to struggle to remember my bulling episodes, with not much success. I do remember getting verbally bullied cuz i befriending a small kinda fem (str8) boy, they called us fags etc... One smaller "bully" kid tried to hit me, i punched him in the face, laughed & said "dont fuck with me, ill beat you into the ground with your grave stone, then burn down your house". half the kids laughed, the others were like whoa! nobody dared to mess with me physically again.
@sleekcartim I was successful at filtering out, not be affected by, the verbal BS. it can be done. However i couldnt do that for my worst brutal bully, who i couldnt get away from, even today... My father. When the ppl who are suppose to love & protect you, become a bully, well... ill just say, school bullies get bitch slapped into growing up eventually, you never really get over an abusive parent. That isnt discussed much online, thats one reason i respected (honest) Derek (rosewhip).
Awww, I feel your pain, Will. I'm 28 now, but I also had a rough time at school. Not quite as extreme as you (seriously the little bastards were setting your things on FIRE?), and likewise there were a lot of teachers that didn't do much of anything to help.
I particularly remember getting bullied at the bus stop after school. It was a daily thing by an older kid, and my mom went to the principal. He said he couldn't do anything since it was happening after school hours.
@sooth15 Things got better when I got to high school, and that's when I made my first real group of friends. And I mean *REAL* friends. The kind you'd die for.
1. Thank you for posting this. You have no idea how much I actually needed to hear something like this. I will get through this <3
2. Your bullying experiences were just as bad as mine but! when you said that they set your stuff on fire......... My eyes opened up so wide, so fast!
3. I wish I was your friend as a child, I was/am the geek too, we wouldve made a deadly smart duo ^^
I appreciate all you did to help promote the Matthew Shepard Foundation in the Chase Giving Campaign. I wouldn't have known about it without your shout-out and I'm sure you helped them get to the $250K level. Thanks.
This video brought back so many memories from when I was bullied in school and no one did anything and how low I felt everyday because of it! I'm so happy that now bullying is being put into the spot light and hopefully will end soon!
@Fabrication101 Putting bullying in the "spotlight" is good, but bullying itself will never actually "end". It goes on among children, adults, nations, and would go on with other worlds if we could reach them to bully them! It's a sad reality that seems to be a part of human nature. Those who are being bullied for any reason need to toughen-up and realize that nature has dealt them a rotten 'hand', and their job is to deal with it. How? That's the age-old question!
I also don't know whether to like this video or not. I didn't like the video because of all the horrible things that happened to you, but I'm glad you shared and want to support you....
@Riuk881 i give you permission to like it. :) when you like one of my videos, you say that you like the fact that i posted it, not necessarily that you liked the content. that's how i translate it anyway.
soo sad :( I am so glad not to be bullied because of my sexuality. I am just coming out to my friends and no one reacted badly until now. Im 16 at the moment :)
Sadly, I have to agree that everyone goes through bullying. There's so many people who cannot get themselves out of the cycle, so many of them being "bullied" by their own parents which leads them to seek someone weaker than them. As well, so many people turn a blind eye, whether due to not caring, agreeing, or simply feeling too awkward to do anything. Hopefully though, through awesome videos like yours and others, we can spread the word that it's not good. Thanks Will for sharing this.
These stories are really sad, Will. Lighting your stuff on FIRE?! You went to school with a bunch of psychos! Despite all the hardships you faced, I'm glad you are using your experiences as a tool to reach out to others. You should be very proud of yourself. (:
The sad thing about this is that it keeps a shit ton of people in the closet, because no one wants to get in a "car accident". And then people are surprised when their uncle in law was caught sleeping with the guy down the street.
Oh my thats horrible I just cant comprehend school being so horrible for some people but american schools sound viciouse. Mayby I was just lucky and had a realy good batch of kids in my yr when I was at school but I swear Iv never seen anything like this in australia (and I defenetly wasnt a popular kid at school and yet never was bullied)
I so much relate to what you describe in this video. It always seems that the problem isn't the bully but the person who gets bullied... and that kind of thinking really made me think at one time that I was the problem. My question to you is do you ever feel really bad when looking back? If you do, what helps you get over that feeling? and if you don't, how do you think you overcame that sadness?
I'm really glad you mention the "toughen up" response that many, many idiots have responding to a child when that child reports bullying.
I've noticed over time that gays who have lived through particularly bad bullying as children often wind up academics. Do you think it was that intellectual orientation which lead bullies to see them as a potential victim, or do you think that the intellectual world was a safe retreat from the physical torment?
he desapeared when i was 6 but now he reapered and is living in the next street. im now 15 and stronger than him and i feel like i must take out his life in a horrible way for making mine a hell even before i went to kinder garden, im not a violent person but i cant help but think about this and i dont wanna hurt anyone, but he really deserve it.
if you could give me some advice on what to do i would be gatefull forever
i was bullied since i was 3-4 for a man of more or less 17-20 years old back then... i´ve tried to be nice to him and all in many ways and no matter what i did he always beated me up for no reason.
It seems common for teachers to do nothing about bullying. I always wonder if this is because they actually support the bullying or if it's just because they don't want to put forward the effort to do something about it.
As too myself, I'm glad I never had to ride a school bus. I tended to keep to myself at school, and it seemed like most students didn't like me but I could never figure out why.
legally, teachers are suppose to report bullying. the problem is most teachers either don't notice or if they do report something then they are on extra hours, don't get extra money, and the bullying will continue, it will just be outside of school. kids are so vicious its really sad
I think that the worst experience I had was one day this swine kept me in the classroom once everyone had left. He slammed my tin pencil case on my head and, as I made my way to the door, he ended up throwing a chair at me from the opposite side of the classroom. Luckily, I managed to dodge it and run back home in tears.
I started reading much earlier than my classmates and I seemed to have an unquenchable thirst for knowledge. Years when by and there came the insults, getting beaten up after school and all that.
Thanks for sharing all of this. It will help so many more people than you will ever realize. --The bullying I experienced was primarily verbal, & by the time puberty hit, I was so much bigger than the bullies, most remained silent or I could stare down. The verbal wounds that hurt the worst though were those that came from my own father. He did a complete turn around in his attitude by the time I became an adult, but the scars still remain from my youth. Glad we made our peace before he passed.
its so wonderful to see you make such inspirational videos.I am from india btw and I can totally relate you. I myself have suffered so much in my school days(like not having a single friend) and as you said it did get better in college now. Though coming out in india is not an option coz people are uber conservative. I did manage to come out to few of my close friends(they r great support). I just hope things turn out well and i find someone special just like you :D
I couldn't agree more with you. I am not gay but was bullied most of my childhood because I was shy and nerdy. I had told my mum but she thought it was good to teach me to toughen up and once told me that it was my fault I was being bullied because I didn't stand up for myself enough. My teacher at the time agreed. It took being pushed into moving traffic by my bully and my mum happened to be driving past. She finally believed me. It turns out my mum had been bullied all of her childhood too.
I'm curious, what are your thoughts on kids who defend themselves physically, if necessary? The video of the kid from Australia power bombing his bully comes to mind.
Did you ever have roadblocks on your way to college because right now my parents are completely opposite from most, they push me to follow my dreams for college but they also hold me back from moving far away
I can't believe what some people go through! I wad EXTREMELY lucky that I wasn't bullied for anything at school because I lived right near Detroit and I mean literally my school was like a mile away from the border of my town and Detroit. When I was in elementary school I was the most popular kid in school and not just in my class but all of the classes. Everyone knew who I was. I stopped going to public school and started home schooling in 4th grade I believe because my mom didn't like the way
I'm sorry that all of this happened to you in school. Teachers and administrators can be so negligent. Even in the face of countless abuses and suicides.
Age and independence are empowering though! I remember being a kid and not seeing or having many options. But now I do. So does everyone else!
Amen to everything you said in this video. Lovely insights!
i was called a girl, or monitress when i was 7 grade. I pretend i was ok with that it's actually not and I started to focus on studying and became a lil bit 'nerdy' and isolate myself a bit. that sucks
Parents, Preachers and teachers need to check the homophobia in their own hearts...in their own homes...in front of their own children before it will ever stop.
The bullied happened at a young age all the way to high school? I didn't get bullied until high school, but it wasn't so harsh like you, it was just verbal. I went to an all boys Catholic high school and because I corrected a jock in my junior year class from saying "Allah" in a very disrespectful way, I became known as a terrorist and towelhead. Freshman and sophomore year, the same jock and I said, "Hello," whenever we passed in the halls. He also got other jocks to say "Allah" behind my back.
reminds me of my childhood. I didn't have very nice experience for my primary and high school. surprisingly, I went to a dreamful university while some of those people ended up being miserable losers. right now im doing my JD at reputable law school in asia. I have to say god is fair usually.
You are such an amazing young man and an inspiration to kids everywhere. Not just the gay kids, but the kids that are bullied because of what they don't have or because their overweight. Anyone, even me, can learn from you not to let other people have the power to ruin your life. I'm so glad you're, what I consider, an online friend.
I think this is your second or third video in which you talk about your experience with being bullied, and it seriously puts me to tears every time. Mainly because it's horrible to think that kids can be so malicious and harmful, but it is a sad and rather frightening reality.
nononono whats sad isn't that they are bullied for being gay but the fact that they are being bullied at all. every kind of person possible gets bullied (even most bullies, which is weird right?) Its not that the gays are the only ones bullied, ( I don't bully, I love gays, but the bullies I know do it because gays are unique and willing to go against societies standard). Its just sad that everyone has to get bullied in the first place. Being young is much harder than it looks
My biggest problem wasn't trying to just get through it, it's now just trying to forget get it I have difficulties around people to day because of what happened then say what ever u want that will make u feel better but for me it's apart of me and I don't know if I'll ever be able to let it go
Teachers were able to paddle u when u were in school? I'm only a couple of years older then u and they weren't allowed to touch children in any way when I was in school although I did get restrained alot by my teachers I was very angry all the time from being bullied! I got held down alot I think one of our biggest problems is the people who just stand by and do nothing! I really needed someone back then and had know one to go to
Every time I have heard you talk about that day on the bus I feel like crying. I don't understand how someone could treat someone else like that and feel good about it. It baffles me to no end. Your videos are very inspirational and show people that things can get better and I thank you for that.
Most of us do understand how hard bullying is, gay or not. Most of us are aware we're being bullied, some of us don't for a long, long time. But the important thing is that it needs to stop, it hurts far too many people, and often drives them to unnecessary lengths. This was a really powerful video, and reaches out to, not just the gay community, but all that have been bullied or are going through it right now. Thanks for getting this video out there, and hopefully something can be done one day.
Thanks for sharing!

1. It gets better- As a 43 year old man, I can tell you school is such a small fragment of your life
2. It makes you stronger- My motto has always been, whatever doesnt kill you makes you stronger
3. Just make it through- I can;t stress this one enough. If you are being bullied, do what you need to do to make it through.JUST MAKE IT THROUGH

Glad we made our peace before he passed.

hey will,
its so wonderful to see you make such inspirational videos.I am from india btw and I can totally relate you.

What first graders know the words gay/fag!?!? I didn't know those until...7th grade? And I wasn't a sheltered kid, in the Seattle area.

I really needed someone back then and had know one to go to
SHOUTPROUDLY 2 months ago
