I too loved his book, it was really interesting & real honest to me Duff truly has come a long way.... Wife & kids and he's rocking & staying sober... I know how hard it is being sober, it's been 2 yrs for me, I'm happy for all of you that went down that road of addiction it's so hard.

Reading these comments about addiction is very comforting, it helps me in my recovery. I am struggling with addiction myself. I'm really trying to get through this but it's very hard. I'm in a very dark place right now in my life. I almost overdosed today on VIC. it scared the shit out of me. All I can do is take it day by day and pray to god. millions of people struggle with addiction everyday. It's a battle but we can succeed!! LOVE AND PEACE.

I too had a 400 mg a day morphine addiction as well as other opiates like oxycontin, phentanyl, etc. I had to go to rehab and spent two years after that on suboxone. You are absolutely right not only is it debilitating like Duff said but after a while you feel as if suicide is the only way out of it. He killed himself.

Nirvana were cool, but people pretend they were innovators of a genre when in fact they were late-comers to the Seattle sound. Nirvana had their share of songs that weren't inspired or creative, they weren't perfect. Kurt wrote weird lyrics and stripped down songs. he was original, that doesn't make him genius.

The ability to create and convey experience is what Cobain was able to capture so brilliantly. @codebabe I think you missed my point. It is not about your ability to use words that sound cool, or being able to 'explain' what you are feeling. Of course these things lead to great songs like those you mentioned. However, the final product is not solely based on these components. Cobain brought something deeper to his music that is not reducable to 'things that just sound cool'. Axl did this too, however it was at a more superficial emotional level, the level you can explain with words.

There was certainly a level of uniqueness to Axl's style as a performer, singer and songwriter that was inexplicable and not superficial. @codebabe I think you missed my point. It is not about your ability to use words that sound cool, or being able to 'explain' what you are feeling. Of course these things lead to great songs like those you mentioned. However, the final product is not solely based on these components. Cobain brought something deeper to his music that is not reducable to 'things that just sound cool'. Axl did this too, however it was at a more superficial emotional level, the level you can explain with words.

There was certainly a level of uniqueness to Axl's style as a performer, singer and songwriter that was inexplicable and not superficial. Music at its deepest core(as you are referring to) is subjective. Anyone saying that Kurt was more talented than Axl is being unfair as Axl had strengths that Kurt didn't and vice versa.

Guns(including) had nothing against Nirvana's music. Axl didn't like that Kurt was so pretentious. They didn't like his philosophy regarding his not wanting to be liked by the masses and thinking he was too creative and interesting for everyone. Because Kurt DID feel that way.
