The regular Solstice with the turbo 4 is a quick little car with a turbocharged LS7...I don't think you can fit a tire big enough to hold the ground...must be a monster...

Nice car, very nice. However I will take a Fiero over it, just because I like the whole mid engine sports car thing. These Solstice's are neat cars though, one of the best cars Pontiac made in almost 20 years.

@b00ste Naw its da real thing, because as well all know ponitac & chevy basically run the same type of engines, and in some cases have the same exact body style on certain cars like the (G5 Pontiac and the Colbalt Chevy) plus this car has the right drivetrain layout for a FR engine swap anyways, & with the roadster style front end Im sure a V8 can fit almost effortlessly, the most he may have needed to do is get a shorter driveshaft which is easy enuff, so its not 2 far fetched 2 have this swap.
Hot Rod magazine featured an article with just that; I don't remember if it was a skunkworks car or if they did it themselves, but it packed the real 'Vette engine which just barely fit.
Yep, that's the one. We've gotta be talking 0-60 times in the four second range and quarter mile in somewhere around 11 seconds, given the car's power-to-weight ratio.
The only downside would be that the stock handling would be destroyed by the extra weight up front. It would wallow in the turns, be very front heavy, and would dive on sudden braking, but when you're that fast, it won't matter much.
Okay, I could believe those numbers, but to say that the fully-loaded LS7 is lighter than a four popper makes me wonder.
My cast iron 340 is in the neighborhood of 500-525 lbs fully loaded, but I've never weighed it. In my 2,900 lb Dart, it'll be able to get out of its own way, but not like an aluminum engine could.
@moparmonster1965 yeah an aluminum v8 is somewhere around 150-200 pounds lighter, then a standard big block,but really its not worth the cost in most cars, if its a modern light sports car and you have the extra cash an lS is the way to go, but an iron v8 will do.
i wouldn't want to use a gm v12, or a diesel by any means although :P
@moparmonster1965 some of them are done by big companies, but you can buy harnesses and programmers for them to do it yourself, from what ive heard if your doing one ls swap, its better to get it done by someone else, if you do 3+ it pays for itself.
myself i would go for the newer gen 3/4 vortec, they are darn near identical to an ls, just tuned more for low rpm torque and iron block
When the horse power wars were heating back up, all we had were 2.2 turbo engined FWD cars. The Magnum engines were good, but they were just updated LA engines.
I'm a die-hard Chrysler guy, but I'm so very disappointed in the company; they have made so many mistakes and put out so much crap that I'm feeling forced to go elsewhere nowadays. I really like the Solstice and plan to buy one in another year or so, once they've depreciated enough. The only thing Chrysler ever gave us like that was the crummy Crossfire, a 215 horse power reskinned SLK.
They made a really good concept car though, The Chrysler ME Four Twelve, and i tell you, if they sold them it would go like hot cakes (despite being based on a Mercedes platform).
As far as I know, that car never even reached the concept stage beyond computer models.
As far as a car like that being sold to the public, if the Veyron goes for somewhere north of a million dollars, it would be in the same ballpark, making the Viper look like a downright bargain.

I read on CNN's website about a month ago that DELOREAN is talking about bringing back the Solstice! Honestly, and it looks pretty cool, not too many drastic changes from the original. Supposed to be next year or 2012. I have the a dark grey convertible Solstice and LOVE IT! I will never get rid of it. The sweetest ride I've even experienced. Really, really sweet.
@dankebuddha why not twin turbos? Twin turbos on a V8 greatly reduce plumbing, which makes packaging easier as well as look better. Plus using 2 smaller turbos would result in less turbo lag. Seeing a single turbo V8 is rare, as most are twin turbocharged if they are turbocharged at all.
@dankebuddha I think you are referring to twin sequential turbos in your theory. I was referring to parallel turbos...one for each bank. You can get the exact same power out of two smaller turbos that you get out of 1 larger one. Not to mention you can't boost an LS7 a whole lot anyways because the cylinder walls are not very thick for that type of application. They would need to switch to an LSX iron block if they wanted to crank up the boost.
@v12tommy no i get what your saying but you'll get more boos for a 101 mm turbo then 2 50mm but you'll have turbo lag if your building a car purely for power for a drag then single is better but as far as a ls 7 ya those dont like boost and the lsx blocks are built specifically for boost

Hey, man, we're not all tools. I live in the beautiful appalachian mountains of west virginia (morgantown), and we almost never close school or any other business. The vast majority of us know exactly how to drive in the snow, too. You have to when you live on the side of a mountain! I probably engage my jeep's 4wd once or twice a year because I have to to get around. The other 5000 times are cause I'm wheeling!
You would need the LS7 , A new transmission , a stronger rear-end, re-enforce the frame rails, and a new driveshaft. Plus a few other things. Never done one myself but would love to.

the ls7 weighs about 475 n/a, the echotech is somewhere around 300 pounds n/a.
100 pounds or so shedded/relocated off the front end and the balance should be about spot on

I can't imagine a good, complete 'Vette engine would be too cheap and I know that I'd be out of my element trying to put this sort of thing together.

Hey, man, we're not all tools. I live in the beautiful appalachian mountains of west virginia (morgantown), and we almost never close school or any other business. The vast majority of us know exactly how to drive in the snow, too. You have to when you live on the side of a mountain! I probably engage my jeep's 4wd once or twice a year because I have to to get around. The other 5000 times are cause I'm wheeling!

You would need the LS7 , A new transmission , a stronger rear-end, re-enforce the frame rails, and a new driveshaft. Plus a few other things. Never done one myself but would love to.

go listen to a 6L f250 spool it is loudest around mid boost then it gets really high pitched and and exhaust noise starts to overpower it.
