@FutebolFanatico001 yea most American v8's like to be shifted, but you get much more torque than something that revs up to 8,000 as well as you get your power lower down and don't have to thrash it to get into its power curve.

@2bidfilmsguy you don't necessarily get MORE torque, it just has to do with the torque-band and the power-band you mentioned. also, the torque-band is almost always at the low rpm range and the power at the higher range, and that is because of the nature of the internal combustion engine however, an engine that redlines higher means it can withstand more of a beating and is to me ultimately a better engine. with many supercars around the world you will find that they usually redline above 8K rpm

@FutebolFanatico001 yes your right, you dont necessarily get more torque but in an engine with a lower red line you will get max torque for longer. For example a Ferrari has very short gearing but has a high red line which means it will get into its power band faster. But a car like the Saleen has tall gearing, but it rides its low rpm torque wave into its power wave. And no a engine with a lower red line is more durable, I would know I build performance engines as a hobby.

@FutebolFanatico001 Higher RPMS shouldn't warrant a better built engine. What about its ability to stay cool? Effective Powerbands and the ability to make power in both LOW rpms and High Rpms? Displacement? Flow rate through the heads? What about the oil Pump and galleries that deliver it? Then you must consider the purpose of the car. Supercars are meant to be track cars. Yes, as you said they are able to take more of a beating, but because of that powerband... it can hardly be done for long.
