  • i have your mig 29, i was wondering which kf airfoil i should use.

  • @nolifewithoutrc10 I use the KF2 on everything these days. All around, my personal favorite and the right balance of everything for what I'm looking for.

  • The KF3 test isn't correct. At 5:53 you can see the rear plate is flat, the front plate goes up to 3 high, and you can see the insert. That first step down is 2 high, to a flat rear plate.

Should rise to 3, then step down only 1, to 2 high, then the rear plate slope down from 2 to 1 height. A more rounded, airfoil like profile, with both steps of 1 height and a slope down on the rear plate, not flat.

The 2 drop probably adds extra drag, the correct profile should be more slippery.

  • Could the KF3 be used for slow flying because it generates more lift at lower speed?

  • pop

  • Ok did you buy the kf airfoil? Or did younmake them???

  • I really love everything you've been doing I have learned so much from your video's.

however it says you have 106 videos on youtube but I can only find about 30 from your youtube page.

Also your website needs fixing (rcpowers.com) all your links are missing.

Im sure everyone would love to see more.

  • i need ur help to build a plane wit high alfa

  • awesome beard.

  • 6:41 nice landing lol

  • what kf do i use on a glider...foam homemade glider?

    wid fpv and bombs...

  • hello bro..your tests are really great.....even i am working on some project related to KFM...can u please send me the contact details of RICHARD (DICK) KLINE....even the email id would do...i have been trying a lot to get it but was not successful...please help me with this request...thanks....

  • KF1: Step BOTTOM

    KF2: Step on TOP

    KF3: TWO Steps on TOP

KF4: Twin Steps on TOP and BOTTOM

  • They all looked pretty much the same to me apart from the bottom step airfoil which flew pretty bad all round. In fact the first (flat plate) appeared to be fastest visually. One thing that might have skewed the test was that when you added the KF step it extended well in front of the leading edge and so increased the wing area by a big margin.. that would explain any better slow speed capabilities.

  • @jetplaneflyer Yes, it is hard to really SEE a difference from watching the video, but I can assure you I really felt the big difference when I was flying it in person. We've flown alot more KFs over the last couple years and its just confirmed our same general results.

KF1: We don't like it, wants to flip the plane.

KF2: Our favorite. Best balance of strength, weight, speed, stability, etc.

KF3: Never use it, just gives too much lift.

KF4: Super speedy and maneuverable but added weight.

  • 1:41 hobo santa

  • 6:40 .... plop.

  • will it be posible to desine a few wwII plains like a spit, mustang, zero .etc ?

    (scuse the spelling)

  • wheres ya email , want to share a new delta - salem42salem42

  • OMG Santa Claus!

  • what happened to your space shuttle pdf?

  • WTF are you guys talking about?

  • can i put the KF 4 on my trust vectoring f 22?

  • lol listen closely at 6:32 and there is another "honk" :p

  • @MrFenderStrat7 Val made that noise.

  • Comment removed

  • Watching some of the older vids. Funny thing about his video is, you already have a KFm2 on the canards!

  • can you tell me exactly why your testing this, cause its pretty interesting. and i would like to know more about it

  • @marner94

Most of the videos around this time were all related in some way to the F-35 VTOL project. I believe the KFm3 was used, as it provides the most lift.

  • it just wants to be on top lol

  • Pretty much they act as turbulators causing the flow to separate further back.

  • please don't read... realy hate thes everyone im sooooooooory SO SORRY copy and paste this to 10 videos or your mum will die within the next 4 hours..

  • HONK! :D

  • These are great - thanks for posting - I have been using a similar aerofoil with carbon fiber and fabric have look in my channel watch?v=EBdoiRStYOM

  • save big money with canards!

  • HONK

  • GIVE US PLANS

    ,please

  • hey guys can you please show us how you actually make your wings

by the way love the your shows

  • hi! i think you should test fly the Multiplex Easy Glider Electric or Pro! these are popular in the UK and are like an expensive version of your wild hawk but with a front motor! please get one and give it a review! they made from EP fome

  • Boogers

  • You sound wierd, hahahahahaha

  • dave, what do you actually do for a living? it seems like you have plenty of tim to play with all of your gadgets. lol.

  • lol get it "dick kline" like "decline"

  • merry christmas dave!

  • found your videos, they inspired me to run the kfm #2 on a spitfire Ibuilt from mikeysrc.

I have had trouble flying it but it has flown ok for me, but it has been quick to monuver faster then I could respond. I have crashed it and fixed it 7 times.

i tested the airfoil today in 25 mph winds and very cold, plus im somewhat of a noob at this, and the plane with those airfoils flew better today then in all previous flights

    Im sold on the airfoil.

  • I look everywhere on your website all around the blogs I could not find anything on the airfoil test results.

I have a scratchbuilt spitfire I am thinking a KF2 may stabilize the plane better, and I am glad for this video because i thought the same thing about KF1 what it did was flip the lift.

The spitfire has a strieght wing and I bet the airfoil will stablize the wings.

  • Dave/Val - Please can you tell me if the KF airfoils that you added on this were made of 3mm or 6mm depron? I'm guessing the main plane is 6mm just like your other PDF plans, but what about the added on airfoils? Thanks.

  • Hey, the center of gravity was at the same place during the four diferent tests ? almays the aircraft weight was the same to ?

  • look closely at thr kanards they have the kf4 airfoil, hmmm....

  • holyday lol

  • HONK! LOL!

  • 6:55 and 6:41 lmao

  • Comment removed

  • is this out on the market

  • its when the plane kind of floats on the back and the the plane is almost vertical like a 75 degree angle

  • wats high alpha

  • it's not mirage 4000, it's eurofighter thyphoon.

  • Er, actually it IS the Mirage, Eurofighter has the intakes on the bottom, not the sides!

  • wow I wounder what types of thangs will become of this:)

  • Mythbusters Whoo!

  • why dont they use these over standard aircraft wings?

  • Ha they finaly do, If you look its on there F-35 vtol plane

  • Would these airfoils be better in produing lift than normal airfoils?

  • hahahahahah @ 6:55 HONK

  • mythbusters kick ass!!!!!!!

  • dave watches mythbusters XD

  • HONK! <--- ???

  • listen there is a truck horn in the background

  • Have you tried the kf4 on your verticalstablizers? Also you should try and air foil on the elivators.

  • Is is possible to add a KF4 airfoil to the F-117 build? I know there is not much wing left on the top side of the F-117, but could a little be added to the top side and bottom side to make a difference? Thanks.

  • I think that might work good!

  • dave i think you need to make a high speed sr-71

  • Mythbusters! yay, the show rocks! and your planes are awesome man

  • What?

  • kieth is awesome and he has a fummy laugh but he reminds me of sabertooth from x-men,lol thats an awesome stach.

  • Actually the "control" is a term used for science experiments in general (that's what most textbooks call it), it's simply the test with known results.

  • which airfoil is best for slow flying?

  • could do some type of trap door in the middle of the wing, so in high alpha you can add lift yet increase control by improving flow over the tail surfaces, the vortex created by the hole should ride the top of the trap door and make that the control surface. think 777 flaps with gaps.

  • why dont you mix the two good ones so you have a double step at the top and an airfoil at the bottom?

  • Love your vides, hope you get syndicated some day and start an RC cable channel. We're sick of the food channels and home shopping channels. Consider stepping up to high-definition uploads, the future is here now.

  • That sounds like a great idea =D

  • I think that u should've of used an aircraft with kanards. i think the kanards might've messed up the airfoil. i thnk you should've made a simple pusher-prop mig-21.

  • Thanks for the good info, i always look to your movies. learn very mutch of it!

    go on.

  • can i have one of this cool planes?

  • Good testing. thanks Dave

  • This is so exciting and stimulating. I love how scientific this analysis is.

  • Keith looks like santa

  • awesome and merrychristmas

  • U like these videos. :)

So you want a design for STOL?

Have you tried making more than just the wings as a-foils?

And what state is this in? I like the scenery in the vids.

  • i love that plane, i would like one R.T.F... OK WHAT MOVIE....."MERRY NEW YEAR".

  • hey dave i was wondering with the vtol on the f-35 are you going to have gyros hooked up to thrust vectoring motors to control it in hover?

  • it doesn't like it!

  • i bought a alloy shark helicopter(not mini) and every time i try to fly it, it goes back words or sidways and i cant seem to go forward or backwards or turn using the remote.i read the instructions to it doesnt seem to work.

  • KF 3 would seem to be good for the VTOL plane

  • It's too bad you didn't finish that Su-35 in time for Christmas

  • HONK! lol

  • When i built your Extra300 i used to thin foam. I glued another layer of foam on top of the main wing to reenforce it.

Suddenly it wasn't just rock solide, but also very stable and faster.

    Seemes like i randomly created a KF2.

  • I only wished your tests were a little more objective. It's all about what *feels* better. Maybe attach some real sensors.

  • interesting

  • wow I dont think im interested enough in flying remote control airplanes to truly experience the fullness in pleasure of this video....

  • I foresee these guys implimenting a VARIABLE KF airfoil, making it adjustable for various conditions. Not sure if this has been done but I am confident they can do it. Adding -leading edge slots- might give them better stall control.

  • Variable sounds like the way to go.... any chance Mr Powers will care to discuss?

  • It would be like another control surface. It would be interesting to see it in action.

I would think the KF airfoils could also be used as ailerons. Raise and lower each or both KF airfoils to actually control lift and to roll. It just seems like something they would try. I don't recall ever seeing anyone attempt this before.

  • Cool stuff Dave... very nice!

  • Top vid Dave and very interesting.

Hey, do you have any thoughts about setting up gyros on helicopters?

  • dun for get to make a protection thing for the camera underneath

  • kf1 sucks if the high alpha is going belly forward like ur hand than its good

    kf2 is awesome for speed

kf3 is good for high alpha thing not good for extra weight cause its already too heavy

unless u have a light powerful engine but its not for extra weight

kf4 is best u need dual engine spinny thingys its good for stunts and weight but u gotta tie the smal camera on tight and ad a litle cushin behind it so it wont fly ohf and drop if u make a hole underneath and put camera there it good

  • I LOVE MYTHBUSTERS!!!!!!!!!

  • Yet another top video Dave and i just love all the info you give out and look forward to the next couple of videos about how to set up a gyro to your r/c plane, what xmas present mate lol, thanks Dave and you are the Man 5*

  • Good work.. what we need is more testing on the effects on some other airfoils.. Glad the KFm4 came out well, Ive used that on a zagi type and a delta and for me it gives the best of both worlds..the trouble with all our testing is that its subjective.. but the more who give it a good result the more the doubters will be convinced...davereap

  • 6:35 UFO ! ahhah nah its a bird or is it a plane? its white check it out

  • The KF turbulance reminds me of how the air flows over the bed of a pickup, and how having your tailgate UP, actually causes less drag.

  • Mythbusters?

  • Yes, exactly! Dick and I talk about just that in our phone interview.

  • great job dave love the vids look forward to them every week keep up the good work =)

  • HONK

  • lol! 6:43.. *splat*

  • You rock Dave.

I just graduated, so now I have time.

Once I get the income thing dialed down, I'm gonna get into RC Planes, with your work as a major source.

    Hey! I'm also an INTJ!

Sweet! Maybe if we correspond you'll undertand me instead of thinking I'm a martian. :)

Thanks for your work and your passion.

  • Hey Dave thanks to you and the team for posting every week Loe your vides very much!! thanks!!

  • Good Stuff Man!!! Great video...Looks like the KF airfoil could help my project too...been working on a Delta Foamie thats looks similar to yours with the carnards and all, but has dual rudder - the next test was to try different airfoils to keep it stable at high alpha and without losing speed...Think I'll try this KF and see what happens. You guys do some of the best "Techie RC-Foamie Stuff" I've seen anywhere...Keep up the Good Work.

    MoJo

  • I love how he says "Oh! Very nice!Very nice!"

  • cool

  • Missouri Loves Company :)

  • This vid is great! Just like your X36 no tail vid it's really interesting to see what you're doing with these things. Can't wait to see the vertical take-off project. :D

    Keep it up!

  • everybody at work thinks so

  • just a passing thought does keith kinda look like santa clause i do not mean any offense in any way just a thought

  • Brilliant. Much prefer these videos to the "advertisements" type ones. I didn't even know the KF airfoils existed. Opens up a whole new world for parkflyers I reckon. Watching with interest.

  • Yes, we do the product reviews when we need to fill space while we are working on projects.

  • your maing an f-35 vertical take off, sweet

  • love ur air plane love ur videos i sat down about 2 weeks agao and watched all ur videos. i have a hobby shop neer me what kind of foam should i look for and servos?

  • That book at the end is what I have

  • HONK

  • when i build my first foamie, i gotta use that kf4 airfoil on it. that looked awesome

  • Hey dave I have a book of this and it has al the history and equations as well as paper planes

  • Always great stuff dude ;-)

  • give it a golden star

  • very nice

  • i heard the plane. it sounded like a prop plane

  • HONK!

  • holiday everybody want's to take a holiday lol.....

  • love these videos

  • cool video, but what is that white thing that fly horizontally from 6:35 to 6:36 ?????

  • um...a plane? you can hear it with headphones.

  • Good stuff Dave!

  • I was thinking about the KF airfoil at school the other day... no kidding. I tried it on a paper airplane and all i can say is its awesome!

  • your the best awsome

  • 7:55 honk!

  • HONK!

  • sweet

  • 3:14 LOL

  • Dave that's really cool! You have inspired me to put one of those on a Yak I have and I'm gonna test them, too! I love following your work and can't wait for the VTOL project!

  • very very nice in my opinion airfoil 4 would be the best

  • lol they had an audience

  • HONK!!!

  • honk??

  • Dave u aging... but nice vid.

  • thank you for this it is very helpfull to have this data. mythbusters lol i think you sould be called plane busters ;)

  • this looks like quite a good thing to look into for a UAV i am gonna build to get plenty of lift for lifting cameras and other experimental control equipment

  • awesome dave! 5++

  • Oh very nice

  • keith always says "oh very nice, very nice!"

  • lol at 6:42 the plane is like PLOP!

  • Yeah, that's called a "pancake" landing. :)

  • golfballs have KF dents

  • Great job.Loved it. Awesome!

  • I don't see that particular plane on your site. It has a delta-wing and canards like your Eurofighter, but it has side intakes with the canards along the top, like a JAS-39 Gripen.

  • nice

  • nice!

  • hi, looks veeeeeery nice! I just wonder - is this your job? are you researching all inds of stuff for rc planes for some company? or you have a job beside this?

btw, you have the best vids about planes on utube.

  • hi dave, great video 5 stars. Out of all the KF airfoils, which one is the best for slow and controlled flying?

  • Very useful info and a valid experiment right there. But is this really used for golfball aerodynamics? I mean how can you put a step on a ball? :P

  • the bumps?

  • Great info! Finished product may just be the ultimate RC plane. Looks promising.

  • once again a great video!

    HONK! lol :)

  • Verry interesting chaps ,! why stick to the wing? what happens if applied to other control sufaces??

  • awesome!

  • Thankyou again guys.

I'm learning lotsa good stuff from these.

    No squeek this time though?

    HONK!

  • Oh no you don't - I've got the first comment! woop nice vid guys
