Hearing this makes me sad, I left FFXI last year because i've hated what it's turned into now. My final days I'd end up sitting in Mhaura listening to this music, wishing I could relive those early years of FFXI when there was so much to explore and logging on each day to a group of people happy to see you. Never found an MMORPG that has mean't so much to me as FFXI did.
@gunzilla29 My first as well. I ruined my MMO experience playing WoW after I quit FFXI a couple years ago. : l I was foolish to not listen to people talking about the shitty community in WoW. I doubt I'd play any MMO as long as I played FFXI, and I doubt I'd make as many great people or have as many good memories as I did in that game as well while playing another MMO. Only hope for doing that would be starting a new MMO as soon as it's released that isn't all just graphics.

Oh I remember my first time in mahara, I was new to the game of course and just got high enough level to leave windy. I remember running into the sea horror xD scared the crap out of me.
This music was one of my all time favorites of the game. Sitting in that sleepy little town waiting on the ferry. Never knowing if pirates or the big nasty cracken would attack us. I loved to fish while waiting for the ferry or meet friends there and just talk. It was a great place to relax. Black Mage from Cerberus

I remember a sense of relief when I first heard the music. I felt a sense of "Leaving home" from the continent of Mindartia to Quon. I've grown attached to Windurst, Saruta, and Tahrongi. (It took me a while to decide on a main class to level with.)
This is might be over the top, but Mhaura is where I met my g/f. Yes, my real life g/f. Still dating after 4 years. We met in FF, talked, realized we lived withing 15 miles of each other. There you have it - FF makes love happen haha :)

Damn, that is a cool story. Pretty much all the music in the game triggers some sort of moment in time/scenario for me. And that's saying a lot, considering that there were giga-tons of music in the game.
I never spent much time in Mhuara (unlike Selbina). Being that I was from San d'Oria, it was never really necessary for me to pass through there.
I do remember the first time I went there though as a noob (lvl 10 WAR). I just hoped on the ferry with a friend and we had some high level guy escort us to all the way to windurst.
This game and music brings back so many memories. I loved taking the ferry back and forth with my buddies. We would fish, fight enemies, and hoped that the pirates would attack. I didnt care that the ferries were 16 min rides. It made it all the better. :D
I always loved this music. I know that it will sound pathetic, but it reminds me of the really good times I had waiting for the ferry with friends. We would always end up gambling at the docks, but no one ever knew what we were doing. I actually kinda miss it. But I would never start playing again without my friends.
Not pathetic at all, I think it's cool to hear and talk about memories that people have with all these great songs, it kinda gives the music more soul. And it's one of the reasons why I upload music here. :)
I really cannot thank you enough for doing so. Every time I hear another piece I remember what I was doing when I first heard it (both in the game and in real life) and that is such a unique experience that it is a bit difficult to describe. Again, thank you.
@melancholymistress89 The Mhaura theme was always one of my favorites. Final Fantasy has always been a series with fantastic music, thankfully XI was no exception
@melancholymistress89 That's kind of what the game was based on. Social interactions and they definitely made that apparent in the leveling and combat system as well as creating memories bound by friendship of people you found in game.
It's not really pathetic to discuss memories, if you didn't do that, I'd say, you have problems.
@melancholymistress89 naaa, don't say that and I know what you mean. so, just to be by your comment; it was something that I would enjoy to wait and have my unlucky moments when I would miss my ferry to selbina :D

I remember being run from Windy to Mharua and level 13 by a few LS friends and hearing this music for the first time with them. Pirates attacked us on the boat. We were on an adventure to get to Jeuno. I died so much I deleveled and loved it anyway... back in the days of the GS mafia and MPKs and trains to the zone. Oh god, those were some good times.

Running here when I stated at Windy was a really scary adventure. This music so soothing let me know I was safe for a while on the way to the dunes.
Unforgettable. FFXIV is out in a few days now and some of the OST is great but I wonder will it be as good as FFXi ost.
FFXi has the best OST of any game in world. Wonderful.
