  • The big Hass is a breathtaking instrument, but (like all German instruments), it sounds 'hard', and rather tiring, unlike Ruckers, Kirckman, Hemsch, etc, that one could listen to for ever...

  • The 16' is scary but great!!

  • Long Live Colombia!!!! We don't have only drugs, but awesome musicians such as Master Puyana. I'm very proud to be Colombian!

  • waht is the place of the recording?

  • @Mr98giuliano

    Puyana's house (Paris).

  • @hauptwerkian ok, thank you for the answer

  • Wow that is an amazing instrument, I have never seen one before, and I am a harpsichordist. So...are there two couplers on here or what?

  • @Classicalguy12 Built in 1740 by Hieronymus Albrecht Hass, Hamburg, 5 set of strings, two 8', one 4', one 16', one 2', a lute stop, and a harp stop on the 16'. I forget which manual couples to which except that the coupling is done by pushing one of the manuals in or out a bit. There is a book on harpsichord construction which describes and photographs this instrument in some detail, unfortunately I forgot the title...

  • @JanPB Wow okay, thanks. And its usually the bottom manual that slides forward to do the coupling, but on this instrument I have no idea. I would guess the middle manual couples to the top, or maybe its all three..lol. Thats amazing that this instrument is historical as well, there aren't many left that were made in the old period. And its okay, I just wanted to know all that you told me. Mr. Puyana is extremely lucky to have access to these wonderful instruments. Does he own any of them?

  • nunca había visto un clave de tres teclados, ni en video

  • Maybe Scarlatti was the Jimi Hendrix of his time

great performance by Puyana. Pierre Hantai's interpretation of this piece is wonderful and unique as well

  • Whoa deep, deep bass notes on a harpsichord. I never knew they went that low.

  • Es un clavecin bellísimo.

    Que buena estética todo!

  • HEHEHE I want 3 manuals! someone should make a copy of this instrument. Like Beebe, Hubbard, or Sabathil & Son. Heck, I'd buy one...... even though the price tag for even a reproduction would be straight through the gold-plated roof!

  • omg!!!his hand so short!!!

    pro!!!

  • -The piece is gorgeous!

    -The Harpsichordist is awesome!!

-But I would die to own this instrument!!! :-)

  • You don't have to die to own it, it's on sale for 1.200.000 Euros but you can't take it out of France since it's considered as a national treasure.

    (c.f wikipédia en français)

  • @Zeobit Then you wouldn't be able to play it...

  • @Hyardacil Well, metaphorically speaking of course :-)

  • That is the coolest harpsichord I've ever seen!

  • is the timing supposed to be unusual? or is it a result of the technical nature of the piece?

  • wow what a wonderful instrument.

  • wonderful hass!!!

  • short and fat maybe.. but certainly much more powerful than yours!

  • a Scarlatti lo gustaba armar follon, era el rockero del barroco

  • I think it's recorded in Puyana's Paris apartment, with footage of the Alhambra spliced in.

  • Yes, It seems La Alhambra, but I don't think Rafael Puyana went there to play this impressive theme. I would have known, cause I'm Spanish and I'm a Puyana's fan

  • is this video filmed in the Alhambra?

  • It would be interesting to have 3 or 4 hands to plays these kind of instruments. :o)

  • how about organists! they can do it. with 4 limbs! hands and feet!!!!!!!

  • joder es increible, y q es? fabricacion flamenca, francesa,..... parece flamenco no??

x cierto, muy bella sonata, como todas las de Scarlaatti, y esq ademas Puyana es un genio del teclado

  • Hieronymus Albrecht Hass lived and worked in Hamburg. This instrument is one of the very few harpsichords with 3 manuals.

  • I believe this instrument is the single extant triple judged to be completely genuine and historical. I only have a copy of Boalch I here, which lists 9 others, but they're labeled doubtful or modern. That infamous faker Franciolini delivered several "triples" to collectors in the early 20c, including a converted Cristofori, and a famous one by Bolcioni.

Personally, the appeal of these monster ones escapes me.

  • Fantástico, ¡jamás había visto un clavecín de 3 teclados!

  • El más grande jamás construido.
