I have always thought that this type 1,2,and 3 deal is assuming too much. You cannot use negative energy, therefore you cannot be under a type 0 civilization. 0 is the base. We are a 0.72 civilization, maybe 100-200 years off of type 1. So for example, other animal or insect populations, while varying to some degree here and there throughout their respective histories, remain relatively unchanging. They harmonize with their surroundings. This affords them a simple luxery that humans so desperatly crave...predictability.
