The story for this is (and it's clear in other videos of this same performance) that they are doing this because the front row had signs with all of the lyrics. He's reading them and that's why he's starting at a certain point in the crowd or at Richie (while he's trying to get the chords).

Second thing:It was a public request this song.The front line had the words written on banners and they pulled them out asking Jon to sing it.The song wasn't on the stelist,so I don't see how they could have had the recording form the studio with them.

so, I am a fan of this guy for a really long time, and Ive saw and read lots of things about him, and because of this I know that he had vocal problems during the new jersey's album tour, which explains why they always play their songs live in lower tones and why would he need to use playbacks. I am not naive as certain people are to think he is God... ANd i've been a musician for more than 15 years, so I prettu much now how to realize a playback situation...
