this is by far one of my Favorite scenes in the two towers that they share! Sam has to be one of the best charters in loTR. Cause even when Frodo is influenced be the ring he follows him and goes al the way to Modor and back with him xD
these books show what it means to be a true friend someone who will drop what they are doing to come on a 13+month trip full of life threatening danger that they had no real part of and then will continue to try to help you even after you try to cast them aside and then will even pull you out of your darkest hours
@GaaradancepartyX Well, yes but Frodo never cast Sam aside in the book: it's one of the less than inspired changes that Peter Jackson brought to the story. In fact, their friendship is more uplifting in the book.
Don´t want to take credit from Frodo, but he is there becouse he has no option. But Sam, Sam is there becouse he chose to be there. Frodo is the genetic of the human; Sam is the will.
It's not shown in the movie, but in the book there's a sweet scene where Aragorn sits both Frodo and Sam next to his throne after last battle and Frodo's waking, and he tells a minstrel to sing their tale in front of a long row of gondorian and rohirrim guards.
So what they said in this scene or the scene of the book really happened in the end. :) Aragorn couldn't give them any less.
Sam is literally my favorite, Aragorn and Gandalf and everyone else are awesome (obviously) but Sam really makes this huge transformation from introverted gardener to amazingly brave hero. He's the best.
I love Frodo smiles when he hears Sam say: "Samwise the Brave" in the book the he is "Samwise the Stouthearted" but he is really every kind of virtue you can think of. : ) I -3 Samwise Gamgee
I truly hate it when people refer to them as two gay guys. Are people really so insecure that they can't see a strong bond of friendship when it's right in front of them. This Is without a doubt the greatest example of friendship written
The smile Frodo gives at the end (at about 1 min) gets me every time. I would search the world over and back to find a friendship like these two have. Maybe there is some good in the world and its worth fighting for...
@SylvesterTailsWaffle Probably because Sam is the type of a modest person and does not realise how much Frodo needs his support. If you read the excerpt from the book on the right, you'll see that Frodo laughs as Sam is speaking ["It's saying a lot too much," said Frodo, and he laughed, a long clear laugh from his heart. ] and that makes even more sense that Sam should reply "you shouldn't make fun. I was serious."
They share some serious friendship. If I were ever to write a book, I would use Samwise as a something to use an an example. Sam's heart is so big and warm. He's like to perfect sidekick.
The bond these 2 characters share is truly something remarkable. It's always disturbed me, ever since I was a child, that for some reason society (especially here in the US) could never take two glances at the relationship these characters had without categorizing it as avidly homosexual. When in reality there's nothing gay about it at all.
It just shows you how perversely afraid we've become of trust and intimacy. What's scarier? That alone in itself or the fact that it's probably a good idea.
@IndianaDylan I agree, and it gets on my nerves. The actors even say that those characters aren't gay (and I would consider them the experts on that). There is a brotherhood and friendship between the characters of LotR, nothing else. They are indeed close, but war would do that to you, go ask any veteran. Tolkien was a WW1 veteran so he would know about that.
samwise is the best character in the movie

One of my favourite scenes, we don't come across friendship like this rarely nowadays. And the quote is absolutely beautiful which is sadly cut off.

The inspiration behind Sam was Tolkien's own war experience. He was an officer in war zone, and he had a man of his own to personally serve him there.
He wrote that appreciation in Sam, whereas some of Frodo's background is similar to his own.

Why did Sam say: "Now Mr Frodo, don't make fun." I don't see how Sam though he was making fun of him.

Quite right. The trouble with our society is that we sexualise everything. It never used to be so in the past. Maybe it's due to Freud! :-)
