This video wa taken from the AHTS Edison Chouest, we were working for BP on the TLP Marlin in the Gulf of Mexico, Adam had his recorder at the stern controls and was videoing the operations between the boats.
Oceaneering is a super safe company, especially if the boat filming is a Chouest boat, they are probably on a government job, shit like this just happens
@MuddyMississippiMan You are right, till you assume they are on a government job. Chouest boats are on a majority of the oil projects in the Gulf, and although Oceaneering and probably Chouest work for the gov't there is little chance they actually were. This was a subsea tieback job.
@keven6373 That was absolutely not the reason! Learn before you speak. This particular system is susceptible to an accident like this, a reason why Oceaneering tries not to use them!
Well out of all the comments on this video the guy on the bottom before this one is the most correct. It was a new flow line being layed to a new well just off the platform a way. No one was hurt but if you watch the video close enough you will see a man jump over board to get out of the way. The video was shot from another boat that was on the same location. Which was VK 915 89 miles offshore from Venice,La.
I'm an engineer and it looked like a genset blew below decks and when power lost to reels brakes allpied and shrapnal from explosion caused cable break
seen this vid couple of years back original has daylight footage on deck after accident bit of a mess lol. not sure if you seen not so clear on here lad gone over the bulworks stbd quarter see in the water at 39 sec below the A frame then climbing back aboard.....nice vid.
an answer to your ?s.....the tentioner gave way and the wheel freespooled..u can see the tentioner aft of the wheel...umbilical was on bottom .that vessel is not an anchor handler.
I think you'll find a different story from Huisman who built the tensioner. They were ordered by the Supt to open their tensioner because he wanted to secure with a chinese finger. You can see the Huisman guys coming back on to the tween deck after hearing the noise!
the boat is named the Ocean Intervention II owned by Oceaneering. It's a construction vessel with dive/ROV capabilities. Looks like they were laying umbilical, not too sure what happened but I'd hate to be on the deck during that mess!
Shock load may have bugged the motors and then of course after speed the brake went. Question is was there and what cause the shock load? Possible that the anchor dropped but highly unlikely
not lost control of an anchor as was deepwater mooring rope by look of it and ya dont run anchors through an a frame (thats if ya know how to do it that is)
looks as if the cable is being pulled of the rollers at a very fast speed [too fast] and burning the roller motors out [all the sparks] then braking the roller from its holding.maybe the cable got trapped on something under water.
The Ocean Intervention is across the Bayou from us right now in Fourchon, what a coincidence lol, @ C-Port 1 south dock to be exact

Yeah well I'm just a guy that stays home and does nothing and i can tell you this was the cause of lack of maintenance.

Probably the breaks of cable winch were damaged.
