why does he add a + after 3x when there isn't a + anywhere in the 2ND equation? How do you know when to do this?

@wizman246237 this may be late, but I'll try to explain anyway.

When he simplifies the second equation, the negative carries when he multiplies it out. When you are subtracting, you're essentially adding a negative which is why he puts a + after 3x. Sorry. That was a bad explanation. D;

wow, now I'm taking a algebra course in college and the professor is good...but the way she explains things I don't get at all...my first test I got an 79 and the second i got and 51 (it was all common mistaken like changing the neg and positive sign)...now this test coming up is and elimination and substitution method.
