i am holding on...its not easy...all i think of are my parents and how much i miss them, how i wish i had tried harder to be a better daughter. i miss them so much...
I wasn't a very good daughter either when my parents were alive - but today many years after their death I am making up for it, I made my amends and have matured my relationship now ( better later than never )and have ultimately let them rest in peace and set them free. I wish you success to do the same because guilt is only good if we're willing to look at our part and then let go. You'll be able to also - just keep an open heart and an opened mind......
Also through that process you will be able to look at things in a different perspective and dance to the beat of your own drum.. I know that will make sense in time
When I was little I had this friend who would try and say as much as he could with one breath. This woman sounds like that mixed with a broken bellows. This song makes me want to set baby harp seals on fire. I hate all of you for liking this song and I hate Hem for writing it. You should all go out and buy the most expensive Lego set you can afford and promptly shove it up your ass.
@LordPaynus Seriously? This song is basicly about losing someone! It means a lot to, a lot of people. It has helped a lot of people through a lot of heart ache. So just shut the fuck up. Ohkay? If you don't like it, DON'T COMMENT. How hard is that? Hmm? Exactly.
@nickjerryjonasishot1 It would be easier to leave this song alone if it didn't follow me through every commercial and department store. My rage is well founded and justified.
I just heard a piece of this song on a Liberty Mutual commercial and LOVED it so I got my iPod out and YouTube-Ed the lyrics. I am happy to find this beautiful song!
Anyone engaging in a moronic conversation about wars instead of just PEACEFULLY enjoying this beautiful song is sad and pathetic. Who cares, this is youtube, get over it.

@jimlisa12 I'm sorry :/ I know how hard and confusing it is to lose the people you love <3 Its so messed up how they can just...not be there. I lose a very close friend a little over a month ago. i dont think it will get easier as time goes on. I think i'll always be this depressed over it
my mom,78, has a grapefruit size cancer in her lung, after multiple pnemonias and smoking heavily for at least the 40 years i have known her. my dad,82, is very frail and lives in bed or a wheelchair in a nursing home. he was hospitalized tonight with pnemonia. i know the part to let go is getting closer...
This song is written from the perspective of one who has passed to her loved one about to, to let the dying loved one know she is waiting. Try it in a mother/son context. He is clinging to life (holding on to the last good day, holding on to the last sweet light). She is waiting for him to let go (is this the part where you let go?). When he does (as your hands breaking free) she is holding him, and then he will be there for her too.
The mother will again hold her son as he once held her.
If not for the video, no one could make a connection to anything military from just the song itself. I certainly wouldn't. It sounds more like it was written for a friend dying of cancer.
"j" I'm with you, man. Have listened to this vid almost everyday since I found it a month ago. I love hem by accident from the half acre thing. but have since, followed your stuff. Pretty good, I must say. I also love the grand slam.

The entire world is made difficult by homo sapiens.
My best friend is in the Marines, and I have another in the army. This song reminds me so much of them . . . I keep coming back to the lyrics - they're amazing.
Come on Gleiwitz, you want to group all Americans together as warlovers? Come on, you're smarter than that. I did my time in W.Germany 33 years ago. Can't stereotype all Germans but there were some real a-holes, if you get my drift. But I won't put down the whole country. Hey, we voted in Obama!!!
I'm still missing you, A.J...it's been almost 9 months since we lost you, baby. I keep going back to this song because I know how much you loved it. I think of you every day!!!
774:I was highly offended by your comment.Part of growing up is also not stereotyping people. You calling Americans "assholes" because we are patriotic is ridiculous.Though I personally do not believe US should be at war either, does not mean I shouldn't support those men and women that are serving my country. I'm proud of them. How would you feel if someone bashed the people of your country...the HEART of your country just because your gov't decided to go to war? Try to think outside the box.
Great song..but I wish all Americans would stop thinking about how great they are...They are a nation that wants war...a bully boy nation..Its time they grew up..war is not the answer...You were late for two world wars ..dont start the third...assholes
According to you, the U.S. is both a nation that "wants war" and was "late" for two World Wars. You know, you'd be just as stupid if you were speaking german right now. Which you would be (I see you're from the UK) if it weren't for the U.S. entering WWII.
The U.S. has enormous patience (have we nuked Iran in the past 30 years?) but there comes a time when appeasement doesn't work.
People that fail to learn from history annoy the hell out of the rest of us.
@jhubing Actually, that's a very common belief, but it's inaccurate. The U.S. entered the war, not because we had to, but because we were pressured. If we wouldn't have entered WWII, the Soviet Union would have eventually stomped Germany into oblivion. And this song is beautiful. Lol.
@childrenofbodom13 then how can you explain the fact that the Soviet Union only held Stalingrad? And that they were forced to exercise the tactic scorched earth while they retreated leaving nothing behind them... With out the U.S. WW2 would have went another way... dont get me wrong im not anti Soviet Union its just that they got their asses handed to them and the place where they finally turned around and held their ground was their capitol...
@geass9210 I couldn't have said it better. And unknowingly, I said basically the same thing as you in a comment I just posted. The Soviets wouldn't have had the materiel to continue the war. Their tanks were made with U.S. steel. They weren't superior tanks, but they could throw seemingly infinite numbers of them into a battle. Without U.S. aid that just wouldn't have happened.
@wutevr63 And the fact that The Soviet Union was grossly under supplied giving a rifle to every other soldier... that and the fact that the USSR may have been able to make Germany retreat but that was due to Germany fighting on two fronts... Not to add that Japan was at the USSRs back and if it had gotten too bad Japan would have stepped in.
@geass9210 Then there was the problem that Stalin created by purging the majority of his officer corps in one of his madman killing sprees. They simply didn't have any military cohesiveness when the most needed it. The harsh winter and their scorched policy helped, but without outside aid they were doomed. You can't count on horrific winters every year.
@childrenofbodom13 That part about the USSR taking it to Germany...not quite. The Russians couldn't have built all those T-34 and T-50 tanks. The U.S. supplied the Soviets with thousands of tons of war materiel. In fact, we were the biggest supplier of weaponry to them. If the U.S. sat out the war the Russians AND the Brits would be speaking German right now. The Soviets would have crumbled just like Czarist Russia did in WWI.
yes, it's a very nice song for a funeral. we just used it for my nephew's funeral, by his request. he passed away from muscular dystrophy and he had heard this song on the liberty mutual commercials. may he rest in peace. i love you, a.j.
Beauty, like this voice, like this song pierces clear to your inner-being like nothing else can. The voice and melody are enough to merge with your soul. The lyrics are a best example of our humanity towards on another. Too bad it is connected to an ins. co. ad, but if no other way existed to allow me awareness of its existence, so be it. I can ignore the rest. Go Hem.
Its strange but I think its gone out of fashion to be there for anyone other than ones self...but I am glad that the memories of those times can still bring a stir to my heart. Great Song....thanks
The chickenhawk argument explicitly rejects basic principles of representative democracy. Leftists are among the last people who would want the military in control of foreign policy, especially since those in the military and their relatives vote overwhelmingly Republican. Obviously leaving everything up to those who have served in the military and their relatives would do very little to advance the left-wing point of view.
Soldiers and their families polled at the same levels as the rest of the country before the election, on issues such as the war, the economy and otehr issues ...
The attempt to make the military look like the rest of us has been a success ... but their suicide rate is higher than the rest of ours ... there's something inherently wrong with that ...
A beautiful song, what a lovely lilting voice she has. Great images also, thanks for displaying our colors so nicely, and for your support for our troops.

I have a 21 year old son and an 18 year old daughter and they know I my position on their putting themselves in harm's way for BUSH!!!! BUSH!!!! DRAFT DODGER COWARD!!! All I can do is advise them. How any parent could tell their children to enlist in Bush's military is beyond me.

I mean, let's face it; show me a rich boy serving their country.....ain't happening...just an outrage; we have a nasty war being fought by a military sent in by draft dodging rich boys and it will continue until we say enough is enough and vote Democratic. Send a message, people..
Wasn't this brought up in farenheit 9/11? It's old news! Rich boys dont find cuz their republican parents know iraq is a pointless war. their parents support the troops--the middle/low class boys--soley for political reasons. it's all about classism. rich people run schools like harvard and force everyone to make sky-high SAT scores, yet they get their dumb children in the school just by calling the president. its the same type of thing. in class-run politics, its all about who u know.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
A beautiful song....when you wave The Flag to support a draft dodger President....why should you sacrifice an arm, leg, face, genitals for a rich boy president, vice president, who evaded the draft when it was their time to show courage?
Liberty Mutual irresponsibly makes YOU the TAXPAYER foot the bill when they wrongfully deny claims. If you have a company, do NOT hire them for Work Comp. We had an employee injured, and they refused medical care and monetary benefits for almost 4 years to a dedicated employee. This meant the worker had to rely on state benefits to live. Liberty Mutual sucks for Work Comp.
The love of my life Broke up with me when I was 17. I am now 47, and I still Love Debbie with all my heart. 30 years of un-dying Love. In hearing this song .... It makes me wonder. " Is this the part where I let go "
Fuk you , you skank ass punk ass prick. I would Love to have you stand in front of me, and say that. PLEASE make your whereabouts known if you want to stand behind your punk ass mouth.
Thank you for posting. It is such a beautiful song and really makes the commercial memorable. I am truly sorry that it came at such a time as you said. My thoughts are with you.
About three months ago we were watching an episode of "Grey's Anatomy" about the death of George's dad. This song came to mind as he passed away. I always thought it should have been a part of the background music on "Grey's" but I guess Liberty Mutual had exclusive rights. It is a very touching song and I get a not in my throat whenever I hear it. Great song, HEM!!!
This excellent song seems about breaking up. Always amazing how such a memorable melody can come out of three chords...why can't country and western songwriters figure that out?
This song grabbed me from the first time I heard it on the Liberty Mutual commercial. It haunted me and pierced me soul, prompting me to finally contact Liberty for it's author. I ordered the CD. The morning it arrived in the mail, my beloved husband died. I never opened the CD. This is the first time I have listened to the song in its entirety, two weeks after my Rich's death.
Thank you so much. I really appreciate that you commented and offered such kind thoughts. Just so you know, Hem also sent me a nice note. Not just great music, but great people, too.
This song makes me sad. But it is a beautiful one. I've always wondered what it was since hearing it on the Libery Mutual commercial. Then last night on the season finale of "Side Order of Life."
My soulmate let go of me and said this song haunts him (when he hears the commercial on TV). Everytime I hear this song I start to cry. Why must we let go?

The chickenhawk argument explicitly rejects basic principles of representative democracy. Leftists are among the last people who would want the military in control of foreign policy, especially since those in the military and their relatives vote overwhelmingly Republican. Obviously leaving everything up to those who have served in the military and their relatives would do very little to advance the left-wing point of view.

That's actually not entirely true ...

This song makes me sad. But it is a beautiful one. I've always wondered what it was since hearing it on the Libery Mutual commercial. Then last night on the season finale of "Side Order of Life."
