yes you can install it on your laptop

@SZ2012 i've got it running on my laptop totally fine. it's not light by any means but if you have a nice clean hard drive it should run fine. if it's not working well an external hard drive is a great addition to the laptop (just a simple one from any electronics store, usually starting at 30 or 40 bucks and going up depending on the amount of space you want). just run it through that and you won't even know it's there till you use it.

This video goes fast and instruction is poor because the instructor constantly refers to items he is not teaching at the moment and his accent is distracting. It is also hard to pick up changes he is talking about on the video. It almost looks like nothing has changed.

There is no Pen Tool in Photoshop Elements. It is one of the Elements that is not included in the budget version of Photoshop.

Gret tutorial! I just got elements and am following right along. One question though, How does the brush utility know that its supposed to brush in a blur (vice a black or white paint or something) when switching to the brush?

When painting in a layer mask you are hiding or revealing what is on the adjustment layer. If the adjustment layer is used in a group, as outlined in this tutorial, then you are hiding or revealing what is on the layer above. You are not painting with a color on the image.

photoshop cs is for more professional jobs... elements does almost the same things but its more for photos and everyday users (thus it is a LOT cheaper).

YOu have to hover the mouse over the dividing line between the two layers, hold in the alt key and a small two-circle icon will appear to replace the finger. That will clip the two together

In what way is mine different.

You can pull off panels, pull off the Tools panel so that it runs as a dual column width and you can even change the default UI color. The rest should be the same as the default view you may have.

You can group the layer to an adjustment layer below (create a clipping mask) as outlined in the book. You can then paint in this mask to limit the filter.

There is no channels panel in Elements but my Photoshop Elements 7 Maximum Performance book shows you how to work around this.
