  • I bet John Cowsill never in a million years imagined he'd be playing with the Beach Boys!

  • A great sound from a great era !!!!

  • Gosh this has been enjoyable going down memory lane. . . I know, I'm showing my age. Little sister loves it, it's easy to see. The Cowsills definitely rocked. Isn't You Tube wonderful? Thank you for posting.

  • Aww Susan's cute in her what only looks like a night dress hahah.

  • The Cowsills ROCKED!!!

  • TOUGH song to sing

  • I LOVE the little sister!!! She's ROCKING OUT! =D

  • Ouch, this is before they had a mixing board on tv shows.

  • The Partridge Family (like the Monkees) were created for a TV show and in fact were based on/ patterned after the Cowsills.

  • The mother (Barb Cowsills) was forced into the group by the their controlling father.

  • Little Susan is in that dress for the same reasons the boys are in a suit.

  • Cimorelli is gonna be the modern version of the Cowsills. except all sisters.

  • they lived right here in Harrisville Rhode Island,!!! and I met them all in 1968 and I partied with them ! it was the greatest time of my Life I almost went to new york to woodstock? but I guess I over dosed myself on some of them really good drugs of the late 60,s and early 70,s its just as well" I may have died if I went to woodstock anyway but I did go to the california Jam and had the greatest time of my wasted life now I am straight as an arrow I don,t even drink NOW! BORING!! but alive!

  • Little Susan is a cutie - don't understand why they'd put a nine year old girl in a dress like that in the late 60's. Or any decade, for that matter. Amish don't even dress like that.

  • @IrisMG That is not a dress;I think they called that a pant suit. But I agree"That Poor Girl had to wear that on live Television"The sleeves are too long?haha!

  • @brian6078 Two months old- I had to find this. Hello, and whatever. Thanks

  • @IrisMG The sleeves were very stylish then. That's all.

  • @halaluani Yes, I'm old enough to remember the 60s.

  • It's blurry...

  • The mom looks like Sister Kathleen Marie at my old elementary school.

  • They Sound Like The Mamas And The Papas.

  • baby's with it,isn't she.

  • @JohnAllanification DITTO, SALUTE CIAO

  • This is why we need to have a variety show back on the network. There hasn't been another family group since the 70's. And this is the only one I know of that had the mother in it.

  • Susan Cowsill was so hip!

  • Yes Susan Cowsill dances so well... Barry Cowsill RIP....

  • That little girl is a fantastic dancer

  • @tommerrigan1956 That's a boy

  • @seizetheweakened Children that age are often androgynous-looking.

  • BobCfav, uhm you be damn near correct :) I am just now rediscovering why I liked this group even before the Partridge Family (which BTW, I still owe allegiance to...)

  • I've seen The Cowsills here at BB King recently and they were great. I haven't seen the Partridges Family or even The Archies doing live for 25 years. Gotta give something for longevity!

  • When the man was singing it was clear.

However when the others sang it wasn't as clear.

Was it just me that noticed that, or did anyone else notice it.

    Great song anyways

  • I didn't know the Cowsills sang this song, but once I saw it I knew it was going to be good before I even clicked on it.

  • you got to be kidding me MAMAS AND THE PAPAS ARE GREAT

  • @robdon88 on this song mamas and the papas sound better, but cowsill do a good try, too square, hey your still with me after you slept with me....mama cass life

  • Three of them have passed

    RIP

  • Never realized how much Justin Bieber looks like Susan Cowsill...

  • My favorite group!

  • @khultan I deserved that. but at least it made you laugh

  • Great to see the Cowsills in their prime days. Mom looks great! Little Susan dances pretty well for an 8 year old. Too bad that the producers of Partridge Family didn't want Mom considering show was based on The Cowsills. I know 3 are gone now. Hope the rest keep singing. Long live The Cowsills!

  • I actually met them in chicago ohare in 68 I was returning from nam

  • hey little girl ringling bros called they want they're clown suit back

  • Hell Yah This Is Legit !

  • Those guys need braces and that kid dances like she's got ants in her pants. She cant seem to find the beat.

  • @tman12563 - not surprising. Kids that age have that problem.

  • @tman12563

     Ha ha ha....you moron.

  • I was 17 or 18 back then. Didn't watch this show or least don't remember seeing it. But I would have had woody or at least a partial looking at the mother in the middle. The sixties were great. I was in eighth grade when the Beatles landed in America. Real special times. The Summer of Love was magic. The Summers of 1968 and especially 1969 I wouldn't trade for anything, even if someone came up with a way to erase those years and turn me into a teenager in the here and now. Great cover!

  • it's hard to just stand there and sing when you're usually playing instruments while you sing. i would guess that the Cowsills dance moves are all improvised on this tv appearance. bless their hearts, they were shoved out on stage with tuxes and gowns for this live performance with pre-recorded backing.

  • This makes me want to puke. It's on par with the Osmonds -- crap.

  • thats great

  • Susan is in a groove.

  • Susan is sooo cute! I think she's the only one whomever made a one piece Maxi dress look good.

  • I thought Susan was so hot. The way she moved, her singing, her voice, and she is oh sooooo cute. She has the total package. At this age (Susan was8) I was 12 and in love with her. Every time I saw her on tv I couldn't eat for the longest time afterward, I was so lovesick over her. Haha! I look back on it now and smile.

  • @dakotasky300 You were 12 and she was 8? Dude, don't share that.

  • ....Wonderful classic 60's pop!! The best one is Susan, SHE is really in to it, the dancing is FABULOUS & her outfit is THE BEST!!!

  • Oh my goodness. I had no clue that Suze Orman sang that long ago.

  • Wonderfull!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Comment removed

  • Classic Cowsills footage!

  • The current Cowsill line up still sings, Monday, Monday beautifully. Susie was just rockin' out. She born with perfect timing and perfect pitch. The boys were born to look hotter than hot!

  • lip synch?

  • very commercial..

  • Barry once told me they were just, "doing what they were told to do." I'm sure Susan was encouraged to dance like she was on Laugh In

  • i'd hope so...

  • The youngest and cutest member of the band dancing was a wise move. Susan is awfully cute!

  • its very warbly. but im sure thats the tape. but oter then that, this "susie" you all are talking about is distracting. her dancing seems manic. perhaps there was a earthquake just under her only. and whats with the moms hair??

  • The Real Live Partridge Family!

Little Susan looks so cute! Groovin' like a little go-go dancer. I'll bet this talented family sounded great on those Beatles hits. They could also handle some Beach Boys harmonies too, I bet.

  • they actually did.... ON their Live LP they did a bang up job on Good Vibrations.

  • Their live lp sounds really cool. I'll try to find it.

Do you know if it's on cd too?

  • I have it on lp and found it at a flea market in mint shape years ago.... Doubt that its on dvd... but google it and see what you find. EBAY might get you the LP.

  • My Ma had a live album of theirs. They sang this song along with Mr. Postman,Paperback Writer and others. They sounded great when they sang Paperback Writer and I also remember hearing on the album some people shouting from the audience for them to sing Mr. Postman, and one of the boys said into the mic "okay, you got it" and asked one of the others(I forgot which one)to start it off. Great stuff!!!!

  • I had that album! It was great!

  • @lindalds Me too. I think it's a studio album pretending to be a live album. Some good stuff on it.

  • Check out Susan. This ranks right up there with her solid background singing on Twilley's live version of I'm on Fire

    Underrated group

  • your right! :)

  • good memories.....so good to me!!!!

  • just wondering, did bob sing lead in any of cowsills hits-like-my side, some good years, hair, etc etc, dont get me wrong, i think hes great, but ive heard barry, and billy and i thing they may be a little stronger in the vocal dept.

  • The Cowsills were a lot better than history paints them. Singing and playing their own stuff. DON'T even try to compare them to the Partidges. RIP Barry.

  • I had to give a thumbs up for that.

  • @Planktontwo They wrote Monday Monday?

  • @CatapultYourMom I know they did not write this one. Sorry if I gave you the wrong impression on that regarding this song.

  • @Planktontwo

     Well said.

  • @Planktontwo partridges were based off them

  • @SgtSammyJPeppers I am well aware of that one. Partridges are not in the same boat or league as the Cowsills.

  • Comment removed

  • @NeoGeo70 I think I heard that somewhere. Thank you for the info. Enjoy the Cowsills.

  • @Planktontwo

Weren't the Partridge family fashioned after The Cowsills? After all The Cowsills were on the 1st.

    Just a thought...

  • the cowsills were good,,the partridge family is really a spin off from a real family THE COWSILLS,,but in the partridge family the only real singers were shirley jones and david cassidy,,,THE COW SILLS ALL SANG AND WERE A REAL FAMILY,,

  • Lets keep politics out of this. I agree on Susan being cute. She is about my age and I was in love with her back in the late 1960's and early 1970's. I maybe married for last 24 years with two grown sons of my own but watching this video sure brings back that lovin' feeling.

  • tough song to sing.

  • I used to hate Mondays because of this song. As I got older I realized the rest of the week sucked too.

  • You are better than that kind!

  • OK- Tricia Nixon was not a Cowsill, her father was not a bomber pilot, and the Democrats escalated the war in Vietnam.

  • What does that have to do with anything?

    And no he's not.

  • He's a secret Evangelical Christian who's pro life.

  • Ok...?

I don't see what this has to do with the Cowsills though.

  • tricia nixon watched ping pong while her father bombed haiphong

  • They had great harmonies. And this is their real mom, not some television personality. With some people it is all about looks. Get your head out of the fake plastic culture. So sad what some people live for.

  • Mrs.Partridge was a cuter mother.

  • Harmonies are good but the lead vocal is very mediocre.

  • Not even close to the Mamas a Papas.

    Although a good rendition.

    JF

  • I like the Mamas & Papas, but the Cowsills version is more superb and tighter. Just listen to their version also on their Cowsills live concert album. Better than anybodys.

  • get the other cowsills another microphone.....

  • With all due respect to Bob...this is glorified Karaoke.

  • They, individually, can play musical instruments. I don't get you.

  • "this is glorified Karaoke" ....meaning this particular performance of "Monday Monday", whereas there no musical instruments present; get me now ?

I love the Cowsills believe me, but not their rendition of this 60's classic.

  • Fair enough.

  • Fun clip! It makes me smile.

However, it's the Cowsills in decline. No Billy. Not playing instruments. Singing a song that was huge hit for another band. And little Susan in the spotlight simply because she was so goshdarn cute! This is everything the Cowsill brothers did NOT want their band to be when they started it! They wanted to be rock stars and ended up (shortlived) pop stars. The Cowsill brothers resented how their dreams got hijacked by their management.

  • Great job! (but I like TM&TP more :D) For a minute there I didn't know what song the little girl was dancing to. She was in her own little world and bustin some major moves :D

  • I smiled through the whole video. Felt good.

  • Very Good!

  • u don't wanna know what I'm thinking!

  • Very nice!

  • I love the Cowsils. I saw them live at our State Fair. It was very cool. I have all of their albums also.

  • I use to babysit for Barry Cowsill (and his wife/girlfriend) Debbie when I lived in New Orleans. I wonder how Debbie and the kids are doing. I miss them.

  • this is better than the momas and papas version. i love the little girl in this she steals the show with her dancing

  • I saw them in Las Vegas this past summer, It was fun. My boys who have a band here had there eyes open about what it means to have it.Go see them if you get the chance its worth it.

  • the Mother always stayed out of the "limelight" notice she is always in the back and let's her children do their thing..........does anyone knows when she died???Or, how old she was while performing this video for Johnny Cash.

  • She died in 1985 from emphesyma. According to sources, she was born in 1928, so that made her in her late 30s, early 40's during their popularity. I love this clip and I feel that they never got the credit they deserved, They certainly knew how to sing and they played their own insturments. And to boot, they were quite good,. Nothing like 60s, 70s and 80's pop. I miss it so much. There is nothing in the music of the 00's that even comes close to being as good.

  • yes, that music has come and gone, but not in our hearts. we still listen to it daily, I never go a day without tuning in to a great listening sing-a-long tune!!! Whatever it is, pop-soul, motown, rock, county rock, it will fill out hearts in every way.........long live the 60's, 70's and 80's...........

  • this is amazing, thanks for uploading this!

  • Susan you're a cutie! I wish we saw more of you years ago! OXOXOXX

  • yeah!

  • The Cowsill's really do justice to this famous Mama's & the Papa's tune.

  • The Originals were the best,Papa John Phillips knew more about harmony than anyone in the business not to mention his lyrics.

  • i agree with rocmaven-i was there too

  • Wow what a memory! I actually remember them singing this. My dad loved the Johnny Cash show and was watching it with him when the Cowsills sang this.

  • The Cowsills are my favorite and the first record I bought with my own money was the Cowsills. I am truly their biggest fan. Howver they never come to Charlotte NC. Susan and her brothers are so GOOOD !! The harmonys, and the very soul you hear in their music old and new. I pray they never stop. The world would be a better place with the original Cowsills !!

  • The cowsills are coming back to western canada. Oct 24 at the Deerfoot Casino in Calgary, AB and Oct 25 at the Dakota Dunes Casino in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.

  • I loved Johnny Cash, the Cowsills were terrific. (The singer still reminded me of Robby Benson, and can that little girl dance like Gumby!)

  • I think it may have just been a Gumby-shaped outfit.

  • The Cowsills are coming to Casino Regina on Sept 5 and the Mae Wilson Theatre in Moose jaw on Sept 6.

  • The Cowsills & Jay And The Americans at The

Palace Theatre Marion Ohio on Oct 4. It should be an excellent show.

  • I just saw Susan perform in Chester, NY @ Bodles Opera House on 7/29/08. I was there for the opening band, and she was a wonderful surprise. She has a great voice, a killer sense of humor and makes great music these days. I never knew what happened to them till now.

  • i saw the cowsills at bb kings in nyc tonight 7-28-08. they sing better now than they did in the 60s. "Monday Monday" was a highlight in the show. fantastic.

  • I love THE COWSILLS and I love the Mamas and the Papas (I love The Mamas and Papas more) but I think The Cowsills sound really fantastic!!!!!

  • Cowsills at BB Kings NYC Monday July 28. It will be a great concert.

  • See you there. You know they're going to play this too, being Monday night.

  • I've said they sound like the unforgettable Mamas & the Papas with this song, they're just similar, not equal! Where are they from?

    GILBERTO SAUGEN -- FROM BRAZIL)

  • not bad actually, but no one can do those harmonies like the mamas and the papas.

  • not good the mamas and papas can not be touched!

  • I liked it! They sound like the unforgettable Mamas & the Papas! I dare say they're kindda cover or clone vocal group! Where are they from in the United States?

    GILBERTO SAUGEN-from Brazil

  • This American group was the inspiration for the fictional band the "Patridge Family" of TV fame.

  • Cowsills at BB Kings NYC on July 28 will be excellent. Can't wait to see Paul, Susan & Bob again.

  • Can I go with you to NYC?

  • they didnt do too good with the song but i guess it didnt suck...

  • Saw Bob,Paul and Susan last night(5-23-08)at Ramshead in Annapolis,Md and they were GREAT.They did a meet and greet after the show and talked to the fans like they were people they had known for years. They are still a CLASS ACT.

  • this is actually a good cover of the song. littl girl in front in groovin.

  • Cool story Lurid. This is a better version than the Mama's and the Papa's. Great stuff. Thanks and thank you Cowsills for the memories.

  • i really like this song ^^

  • awsome!

  • Just great!!!

  • man, they NAILED that song. U need chops to sing spanky/gang. in case NY1 else thinks the sills were a joke needs 2 hear this. damn, that was good.

  • Kind of has an Osmond look to it .

  • Cool! You got Baby Sister singing with them.

  • How many 12-year old boys were secretly in love with Susan? I sure was.

  • Yep...bought a teen mag once in 1970 so I could look at her picture while listening to bubblegum 45's on my K-Mart phonograph...I'll admit it.

  • I did too!

  • Fantastic.....

  • YEAH :D!

  • have you ever HEARD the Mamas and Papas???????? They own this song , no one will ever sing it better than Mamas and Papas!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • i think the cowsills did a pretty good job!

  • Wow! So many?....Time to learn more Trivia Music!

  • their father forced their mother into the singing lineup.and she wanted no part of it she just wanted to be the mom working behind the scenes.

  • kewl song,

i have heard this done by the mommas and the pappas and neil diamond all goood singers

  • Were they the first group formed only with family members? I thought that the Jackson Five or the Osmond Brothers was the first.

  • The Adrews Sisters....The Mills Brothers...The Lemon Sisters.....The King Family.....The Five Stairsteps....

  • and how about THE LENNON SISTERS

  • Their Mom was Hot!

  • The inspiration for the Partridge Family.

  • Shake it Susan!

  • Does anyone know the names of the two brother who died? Also, did one of them have a twin who was never a part of the group? If so, what was his name?

  • Billy died in Feb. 2006 just after Barry's memorial service. Billy had numerous things wrong with him and his body just gave up. Barry died in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. He was found I think just after Christmas 2005.

  • Richard was Bob's fraternal twin and never performed with them. He did a little appearance in 2000 or thereabouts with the rest of the family but he was the ONLY Cowsill kid never to perform like the rest. I don't know why.
