thanks for this, good comparison. i pad is cute but the way i see it, it is a luxury facebook browser. but i dont understand why it has to step back and downgrade a bunch of stuff like the processor and ram. 7 years after the TC1100, I would expect more from the ipad. for example, I searched for Rosetta Stone (language learning software) for iPad. There is an official app, and it is like a lite version. Why can't an iPad handle a full version? A shame I didn't get this TC1100 sooner!
@diantonovich I can recommend to you the HP TC4400, which i recently got myself. It's not as portable as the 1100 because it's a full laptop, but you get a dualcore processor, up to 4GB DDR2 and a Wacom digitizer with an IPS (AFFS) screen for around 200$ secondhand. There is also the TC4200 which is almost the same, but has no fingerprint reader, single core cpu and uses DDR1.
@peshozmiata Ebay for 150 dollars (that seems to be a particularly good deal) and I got 4 gigs of ram for 50 bucks and a SSD for about 150. They say 4 hrs battery life. I think that's better (seems I can't post links at alll...)
@diantonovich Hey, that sounds like a great deal - my TC4400 cost 150$ + 50$ shipping. The Elitebook 2730p has more or less the same specs as the TC4400, but you're getting a much better graphics card, as far as intel integrated ones go. A feature i really like on both laptops is the little jogdial on the corner of the screen - this is incredibly useful for pan/zoom in any graphics editor.
@diantonovich I also never had one before because they are so expensive when they are new... But now i can't think of using anything other than a tabletPC when it comes to portables :P Installing Windows was a little more annoying than usual because there is no CD drive (you have to use a specially preformatted USB stick), but once you get things running you don't miss it.
@peshozmiata I bet! Surprising how long the mouse donimated the input device market. And for iPad - price is half the issue. 700 dollars I would pay for a computer. But it has to be a computer, not a stylish facebook browser!! Awesome deal. I tell my colleagues: "Really, I LIKE computers. Just don't like sitting in a chair at the office the entire time!"
@diantonovich The iPad is a "consumer" product, not a "content-creation" product. It is not a real computer, none of these ARM processor "tablets" are. As for the mouse - i think it's here to stay, because it allows your arm to rest comfortably while you're on a desk. However, EMR-pen input is definitely the best possible solution for portable computers and graphic design tools like the wacom cintiq.
I always found it so funny how people are so crazy over technology thats 8 years old and then is watered down after that. Enjoy your "apps" on your brand new 700 dollar tablet while I'm running windows 7 on something thats 8 years old and cost me $150.
ipad is basicly a phone only bigger. it's just a toy, i got myself a 2009 protégé m750 basicly it's a full laptop with a tablet screen and it's great for play and buisness use,. i slapped a 120gig SSD in it and it's running win 7 :)
had to install wacom drivers to use presure stylus sadly the multiouch dosn't work
hi.i am using this tablet pc and feel bad that a super product and not much attention given to it but yeah thumbs up to you finally you did a good comparison:) i need to know more about this hp tc 1100. Waiting
Maybe HP should release an update for the TC1000, to do without the pcmcia and dial-up. In place, it should have 802.11.bgn, vga-out and 3g. Slap in SSD and it is perfect.
HP is busy making these webOS, Ipad clones. They really just need to bring out a new TC1100 all nice and updated. The model was ahead of its time. I like my iPad, but I need Windows or some other real OS to do real work. You get tired of looking for work arounds on the iPad.
I love One Note, its probably the one thing that keeps me in Windows. iPad needs tab browsing. But both machines have their uses. I'm just waiting for someone to get it and give me one machine that does it all.
Maybe, but HP CLEARLY dropped the ball here. If they had really pushed this model and given it a Apple marketing budget, things would probably be different today.
Awesome, you should make one anyway. I'm not the best at making videos with one hand. After I put Windows 7 on, 2 gb of ram and a SSD card, its quite snappy for such an old device. And you just can't beat Wacom for notes and drawing period.
How do you get the Stylus to work in Windows 7?

Had same white full screen problem. Easy fix; just right click on video, click on settings, go to display tab and disable hardware acceleration.
