This was the year the PG-13 rating debuted with Red Dawn being the first one. I have to think there are several PG rated movies that would have been PG-13 if this rating had been in place before 1984. A few made before 1984 that I think would certainly be PG-13 are Raiders of the Lost Ark, Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, Gremlins, Jaws 1, 2, and 3, both Airplane movies, one or two of the Rocky movies, and Urban Cowboy.

Great year for movies!! I remember seeing some of these as a teen in packed theaters. Very nostalgic to see some of the titles. Too bad movie making has become a lost art. In 25 yrs will we even remember 1 or 2 movies from 2009, or for that matter 2007 or 2006? Doubt it.

without a doubt 1984 was a one of the best years for movies. the weakest movies of that year were making the grade and especially 16 candles (two movies that weren't that popular that year). to all you brat pack fanboys/fangirls out there, 16 candles lost to the greatest dance movie of all time (breakin).
