  • thumbs up if you love Yumiko leotards (founded by Yumiko T.)

  • OMG Yumiko T. is the founder of Yumiko leotards!!!!

  • 0:37

WTF?? Someone obviously wasn't paying attention at work... /:

  • start out ugly.

    end beuatifully.

  • yer i noticed that to. thats reallly strange!

  • Ahh, If only pointe shoes came ready broken in and darned for you... :)

  • I looooooooove how beauftiful pointe shoes are... and how shamefully they are treated! Muahahahahahahahaha :D I've gotta say I'm guilty too though lol

  • che bel video

  • I use Freed's :D

  • ay! what happens to al the old shoes! people dont throw them into the trash do they?!

  • @blaint09 they sell them at performances& the little girls from the academy steal them xD

  • awesome. although i always keep my worn out pointe shoes and compare them to my first pair when i was 10 lol. it's cool to see how pointe shoes are made. :D

  • eeek! why do some dancers cut off the satin from the boxxxx! if it needs more traction just cut the satin in a criss cross motion with a knife :/

  • i feel like taking apart an old pair of my pointe shoes now... ;P

  • lol, that whole lot of pointe shoes seem like those were all the paris of pointe shoes that girl had (Yumiko T.)

  • Om my GOSH!! The feet of the girl in the first picture...

Yea she has long toes o.o

Or maybe mine are just super tiny...lol

  • So many pointe shoes O.o

I think I'm under some kinda spell xD

  • Reaction to the final scene: I knew professional ballerinas go through a ton of pointe shoes but HOLY CRAP!

  • they should come darned and with ribbons and elastic sewed on already when you get them, haha...would save me a lot of work

  • @KrazyPeanutTV Why wouldn't the shoes come completed...is that a personalization thing that is different for every dancer?

  • @P00P0STER0US no, they just dont make them with stuff sewed on already

  • @KrazyPeanutTV Hmm that's odd. To me that means the shoe isn't finished. I mean, if it won't stay on your foot then how can you dance? And even if it's not an essential component, it still makes sense that they'd come with ribbons attached. A few extra dollars would most likely be worth it from what you've said.

  • @P00P0STER0US it has something to do with how tight or loose or how long or short you want your ribbons also. not everyones feet are desgined the same so they let you do that on your own. Some people find it stupid but also alot of times people have a practice pair and a performence pair and have ribbons on the performance and only elastic on their practice. Yeah it would make my life alot easier but oh wel, loll

  • @balletdancee Thanks for the explanation. Sounds like a business someone could start! Save you all that time of re-constructing your own shoes. To me that's like buying a car and then having to replace the lights and sparkplugs to make it drivable.

  • @P00P0STER0US because not every ballerina puts her ribbons at the same point. no 2 feet at the same and people put the ribbons higher or lower depending on the arch, aesthetics and the flexibility of her ankles.

it's either everybody sews them or lots of people need to unpick and then sew.

  • @RainingSilence Oh thanks, I didn't know it was such an individual sort of thing.

  • I wonder how much those shoes cost all together??

  • anyone notice at 0:38 there was a magazine with a bathing suit model on it??

  • what type of thread does she use to darn her shoes?

  • @chewkster123 not sure what she uses but i use embroidery thread it can be found at most craft stores!

  • Le travaiil qu'il faut pour fabriiquer les poiintes et moii quand je les reçois (comme beaucoup d'autres) la 1ére chose qu'on fait c'est de les casser... lOl

  • this was neat!

  • She could just give them to me instead of throwing them! I'd like to take a look at real pointe shoes.

  • Haha, the last image made me giggle a bit. The sign in the background of where the pointe shoes are piled up says 'No garbage here please'. Now I know that dead Freeds are anything but garbage, but still xD

  • How is she able to remove the satin from the platform so easily? I always struggle a LOT to remove the satin from my Freeds!

  • she has probably done it thousands of times

  • @msdtau rly rly sharp scissors i guess

  • Nunchucks? I hang my old ones on my wall around a painting that says "if it were easy it would be pointe less" I thought that was pretty smart!

  • Is there any chance of sending me a copy of this video to use in a presentation about Ballet Shoes. It's only for my class of 15 art students! ???

  • those poor dead pointe shoes :(

  • they look so sad :(

  • did anyone notice how at 0:37 theres like this magazine cutout of a girl in like her undies or something in the background?

i found that a little strangee

  • yeah haha i saw that

  • yeah.. i a little strange...

    xD

  • haha yea its a newspaper....that is very weird to have that in a pointe shoe factory.

  • @badatballet loooooooooooooooool

  • @badatballet I noticed that that is weird.

  • @badatballet lol not until you pointed it out but it is kinda funny :P

  • @badatballet Hahaha... I completely agrreeeeeee. I was like what is that. I guess it is boring in a factory making shoes.

  • @badatballet LMBO I TOTALLY DIDN'T SEE THAT BEFORE! SOMEBODY NEEDED A LITTLE EXCITMENT IN THEIR LIFE...?

  • @badatballet yeah thats really gross...

  • i have freeds but i darned them

and are they all her pointe shoes!!!!!!!!!

  • i'm gonna try to make one even tough its ugly.

  • ur not going to wear tham are you???

  • yes. i do wear them. they turned out beutiful!!!!!!!!all i need to do practice my arches!!!

  • wow that's pretty cool, the whole process, sweet!

  • oh thy beautiful romantic pinky pointe shoes........please give me one

  • those pointe shoes are from Freed :)

  • yeay i have freeds to!!

     =]

  • im a dancer and i use pointe shoes but i dont get why somepeople cutoff the platform of the pointe shoes..

  • maybe because its too slippery to dance on satin....well I just glue a piece of leather on the platform....less work xD

  • glueing a piece of leather is a better way in my opinion then utting of the top layer of satin from the platform

  • some people stick plasters too

id be scared to cut the satin :S

i used theses sweude thingies - freed sell them

  • i haven't got Freeds but Capezio pointe shoes :P

  • less slick and last longer

  • Superbe !

  • I realize that it's necessary for dancers to break their shoes in. But I think it's funny how the manufacturer creates a beautiful shoe and then the dancer breaks it down, decomposes it, and adds stuff. :D

  • What an expensive waste.

  • HAHAHAHAHAHAHAH PAUSE AT :37

  • Wow! What a lot of work. I don't mind paying so much money for pointe shoes now I realise how much goes into making them.

  • yay freed!

  • I'm sure Freed would be glad to hear that people in their factory are reading Playboy

  • wow such an ordeal. so worth it...

cant believe they dont last very long. i wish i did ballet, but now i can see why my mum wouldnt let me.. penny pincher! lols

  • imagaine going through that every week....blah

so sad they don't last longer

  • wow. so much work goes into making it- and destroying it!

  • thats funny at the end

  • what does she use to cut the satin off of her platfrom before she darns it???

  • if you pause it at 1:14, it looks like a seam ripper. but then, i could be wrong......:D

  • I agree!!

  • altin je i papare SHEKO

  • Ahaha the magazine... nice

  • We cut off the satin on the tips because it can get slippery on the floors. We also darn the tips (the stitching she did around the edges) for the same reason, and to prevent satin fraying.

  • why do dancers cut the tops off?

    to make a better platform?

  • notice the magazine in the back at 0:37 lol!

  • it's really fascinating to watch.

  • i watched this video like 20 times and i still love watching it.

  • I suppose it was glue

and most, if all ballet dancers alter their shoes in some way to break them in so it fits their feet and works better for them. This one removed the slippery satin material to allow more traction when up en pointe (just a guess). She was also hitting the box (at the toe) to help break it in better.

  • O!! that's freed!

  • I love this video, I have Freeds Studios II's. They are WONDERFUL, they show off my arch brilliantly.

  • donate me with one of those shoes on the floor..if the pointes are dead..never mind!!!!

  • Gotta love my Freeds.

  • omg so in the background the dude has a Maxim magazine!

  • haha! it on 0:37!!!lol

  • i have bloch and they are brill !

  • i think once they are done with their pointe shoes they should decorate them and hang them up

  • or give them to young ballet students :)) my mum goes crazy when I ask for money for new pointes...so I'd be glad :D

  • yay pointe :D

  • i'd like to know what everyelse does with their old shoes. I know they pile up quickly, but it just seems so wasteful to just throw them away!!

  • i mite colour mine in wit a red marker hehe...im like dat!

  • I yank out the shank and use them as demi-pointes

  • i never throw them away..... its like a wierd pathological disorder that doesnt allow me to do that. i like to and tie the ribbons together and use them as numchucks when their time is up

  • hahaha

  • @rubyschildren hahaha that made me laugh

  • @rubyschildren, ha! Don't worry, you're not pathological, I've never thrown away a pair of point shoes and I've accumulated quite a few pairs over the last twelve years. :]

  • I have Block Alphas. I've had other Blochs and Capezzio's too. I'd say that you need to get fitted for any pair. That way you know that you have the right shoe for your feet. I really liked the video. I've only seen the "darning" once before though.

  • Beautiful video Altin!

  • stupendo qst video!

  • haha on 0:37 look in the back round haha

  • i know lol i noticed it too

  • haha on 0:37 look in the back round haha

  • wow!!!!

  • Gaynor Mindens

    90$

  • Really! Mine where almost $200!

  • i have a Bloch pointe shoe. they cost 105!!!

  • wait why does she like cut off the topss..i never seen it done before.. what is it and what does it do

  • it is so the satin doesn't fray and so the dancer does not slip and fall. i do the same thing with my shoes.

  • Don't use doors to break your pointe shoes in! Use your hands!

Anyhow, for those asking, Gamba is an excellent shoe to start with. Not too hard, it fits nicely and helps you develop a nice arch. Grishko are too hard, so are Bloch.

  • I think it really depends on the dancer. I find Gamba don't fir as well as Bloch and were harder to break in. best advice is to get them fitted and see what feels best!

  • my pointe shoes [russian pointe] cost about 85

  • how much do they cost?

  • YES SOPMEBODY DARNS THERE POINTE SHOES! i love it it helps balance

  • lol.. see where ur coming from "lovetodoballet" but point shoes ar for extending the lines of a ballet dancer..[more elegance] and sum people find it helps to soften on thin sum parts of the shoe to achive it =]

    xx

  • She wasn't ripping the pointe shoes apart! She was cutting off the satin on the bottom and re-sewing it to make it less slippery. I've done it before and it does help.

  • I've never tried freed

  • me neither i have chacotts i love them! i just started though

  • i feel so bad when im wreaking my new pointes!! they look so perfect!! shame so many are wasted.

  • oh, and my teacher told me not to soften the box by myself..cuz wat if i did it wrong or something (hit it in the wrong place ormosething..ya know??)

  • i'm a beginner on grishko's its going very well i love them!

  • why in the world would they destory the pointe shoes by ripping it apart??

  • you dont dance ballet do you?

  • It's called darning and I think that it helps balance and slipping.

I don't darn my Pointe shoes.

You can get these glue on pads that you can put on to help stop slipping.

I don't do either but that's why they rip them apart.

It takes eight hours to do I've been told.

  • i darn mine in 40 minutes...

  • ....wow!

    That's awesome!!

You proved the people who fit my Pointe shoes wrong! (that can't be good... ¬_¬ )

How long have you been doing Pointe work for?

  • 3 years

  • So you've probably gotten quicker as it went along, right?

  • yeah. ive only been darning mine 4 about a year and a half, tho

  • Still you've gotten quicker. ^_^

I'm probably going to darn mine, I'm not sure.

  • How do you dart pointe shoes? And whats it for?

  • First off, it's called darning. See what the girl is doing in the video when she sews on the platform? That's darning. It's for nonslip mostly.

  • Bloch is a wonderful brand! Always give you enough ribbon, I'm a beginner and it really hurts but comparing my shoes to the other girls, I think it could be much worse.

  • When I began, I got Grishkos. If you are a beginner, I recommend them!! They are very good to your feet.

  • oh yeah.. and should i tear off the toe?? like she does at 1:12 ??? thankss!!!!!!!!

  • Don't do ANYTHING to your shoe unless your teatcher tells you too!!!!!!!! For example, when I bought my shoes I was about to bang them on the wall and snap them like the other videos show to do but my teacher told me to do something completly different, I'm so glad I waited *_*. She would os murdered me.

  • lovin the magazine at 00:37..

    jk

    lol

i looove ballet and i hope to make it en pointe today!! soo beautiful.

if i do make it a good shoe to start with is grishko or bloch or capezio right??

    thanks!!

p.s. i don't know why they hit the shoe.. hmmm lol

  • hey, why do some people hit their shoes on the wall? (what exactly do people do that for?) (see:1:10 on this video)

  • it softens the box and lessens the noise etc. *shrugs all us dancers develop idiosyncratic ways of breaking in our shoes. My teacher uses a hammer to soften her box, I use a door, I have a couple friends who jump on their shoes, you can use rubbing alcohol, water etc etc.

and the reason why she cut off the satin is to make it less slippery then she sewed the edges (darned the edges) so that it wouldn't fray. slipping on a stray frayed edge of satin would be painful >.>

  • i didnt start with blochs, i stared with grishko's

  • b-e-a-utiful!!

  • What is a good brand for a first pair of point shoes. I'm an X-dancer who is starting to condition again after ... 6 years? and want to start pre point

  • most people start with blochs

  • Bloch, Capezio, Danshuz, Gaynor Minden, Sansha...etc... Ideally as a begginer you want a shoe with a medium shank and a suede toe to help you stay on pointe.

  • love it

  • that is amazing

  • I also made these ballet-shoes many years ago for the Hungarian Ballet Institute. We made it by hand from the beginning to the end.

  • wow. i just got some new ones and i never knew that's how they made them!!

  • I use Grishkos

  • I bought Freeds recently(old ones, with the old bag n'everything)and I find them so hard! I mean, I've had capezios before and after a few lessons they were alright but I've been using my Freeds for a week now and I still think the sole is very hard. Has anyone else experienced this or is it just me?

  • All depends on the sole itself- they offer some softer, but it all depends on the dancers foot. I used GMs.

  • wooooooooooooah. thats soooo cool!

  • did u see that naughty magazine wow!!! lol

  • I saw it! Haha!

  • yeah. i saw that.

  • Hey i jst got a pair of freeds frm germany! Coincidence!I wudnt b cut out 2 make dem tho!!!!Its a bit complicated!!!!!!

  • sweet lol

  • How cool! I love the fast-motion construction and deconstruction. I tried freeds once but I killed them almost instantly. Pointe shoes are a very personal choice for dancers. It's like getting fitted for braces, everyone's teeth (and feet) are different!

  • i always darn my pointe shoes but i got through a pair of pointe shoes in a matter for 2 weeks, and if i have a show my mum has to buy me 2 pairs becuase they go from new to dead in like half way into the show

  • aahaaa! thats so tight! i love watching how things are made. they did it so fast though!

  • oh my goodness

  • omigod!

i love @ the end where they show all the dead shoes

  • me too! im like I WANT A PAIR!

  • ive always wondered if during shows, the dancer would have to switch shoes at all?

  • may i know the brand of that ballet shoe?

  • Fred London

  • It's called Darning. It's to save the satin on the platform and create less of a slippery surface to dance on.

  • why the girl trim out the top of the shoe and sew it?

  • the amount of disposal is terrible

  • Its not really a waste as you may thing, Pros go through pointe shoes in a matter of weeks, no matter how hard the shoe is to break in.

  • weeks? try week. or day. i am a student at a professional ballet company and during snow rehearsals for nutcracker shoes can go from new to dead in a matter of hours. the pros go through a pair a week, minimum.

  • I'm just saying... the reason they stitch the toe box is so it wont slip as much and so the satin doesnt wear out.
