  • A&M records put all the promotion behind....drum roll..............Janet Jackson.

  • 53 and BEAUTIFUL!

  • Umm Vesta RIP I love congratulations. Now when they said she was on AM records from 86-90. I immediately thought of my boo my idol over 100 million records sold etc etc I can go on and on bec I love love her Miss Janet Jackson. They were label mates I'm sure Vesta couldn't stand her telling by Vesta Diva attitude. Poor Vesta baby when Control hit and then RN 1814 that made hits in 3 calendar years 89,90, and 91 the only female to do so to date. Vesta didn't stand a chance sorry.

  • Omg!!! Thank u so much for uploading this. R.I.P. Vesta. Another vocal goddess gone far too soon <3

  • West Angeles Chuch of God In Christ member here fam!

  • Pentecostal!!!

  • I love the song SWEET, SWEET LOVE!

  • R.I.P. Vesta!

  • Never heard of her before,I feel like I have been lost in a void during here career. I really thought I was up on music back then, I guess I really wasnt..LOL.. She is impressive,I love her personality.

  • I re-watched this video, as I was trying to find a song, I re-watched as Vesta caught my attention again...

This feels different after Whitney's passing, I listened differently, and heard once again that Prescription drugs were in use, by another great artist, who had also had a cocaine problem, my question is this; once folks are off these illicit drugs, what & how are prescription drugs being used to replace the original addiction. When are we going to ask these questions?

  • @juliusmaloney Its called "Addictive Personality." doesnt matter what form it appears in,food, sex, drugs, this is also called the Human Condition. Events make people do things they ordinarliy would never do. The death of someone,an abused childhood,a rape, creating an image that you could never maintain spiritually,(Stardom) People that make through these events tend to change for the better, becasue they came from something 2 B something. We all pressure ourselves unneccasarily.

  • why God? Why?

  • Vesta was a CHARACTER - HA! Great interview. She will truly be missed. . .

  • she sounds like chaka kahn to me

  • i LOVE vesta! thank u so much for posting this!

  • congratulations....now we have smaller size singers that can't hit a lick at a dead snake....

  • 20:50 it's crazy how when u have those qualities as a man you're shrewd and sharp. when youre a woman youre a 'diva'...or worse a b****

  • that's so coold how they used to do women. i mean talent is talent...no matter what physical image or vessel it's coming from. ppl can b so ignorant

  • the grammy's should have had a picture of Vesta in the tribute to all the stars who passed like Amy Winehouse.

  • She was sooooo beautiful...Loss of a great voice and artist

  • Thank God for shows like UnSung! No disrespect to the family, friends, & associates of artists like Vesta Williams, Teena Marie, etc., but I'm glad we got to hear their stories from their own mouths. With personalities as unique as Vesta's, Millie Jackson (etc.), I mean, NOBODY could've told their stories like they can/could.--And to be so damn funny & engaging. We would've never heard these stories with that much insight otherwise. Really sheds light on who they are as HUMAN BEINGS.

  • What a voice and great personality, R.I.P. God Bless

  • What a Beautiful Spirit~

  • I had no idea this wonderful woman died until I watched this video just now. How sad that we'll never hear her incredible voice again. I hope she is truly happy where she is now. Thank you for posting this particular "Unsung" episode. And thank you, Vesta. I'll definitely miss you. )O:

  • Beautiful voice...beautiful fighting Spirit! R.I.P Ms. Vesta Williams

  • vesta introduced me to voluptuous women at a young age. i loved big vesta A&M was tripping.

  • Rest in peace, my dear sister! Will always miss you.

Question: Why is it that the best of the best are always "unsung?"

  • PANTY HOES

  • @frankyboynyc HAHAHAHA

  • SOME PEOPLE DONT HAVE THIS CHANNEL THANKS A LOT

  • THANK U FOR POSTING

  • She was so hilarious, full of life, beautiful & truly unsung. It's a shame i didnt even know who she was until after she died. When i see her younger pictures, Deborah Cox just comes to my mind as they both look alike.

  • They were in the Janet business at the time.

  • THANKS!

  • @24:19 "I was fat as hell ... I thought someone was following me and it was my ASS!!" She KILLED me with that!

I'm gonna miss her so much.

  • @beaugarsNYC dwl!! i knowwwww

  • lotta similarities between her and Phyllis Hyman...both drop dead gorgeous...both, could sing their asses off...both, known to be DIVAS...both, jazz influenced...both, underappreciated...both had weight problems, and depression....both, had issues with cocaine...both, gone way too soon.

  • @MisterCrazyLegs

    So true.

  • Like if you saw the thumbnail and asked "Why is there a pic of Chaka Kahn on Vesta;s thing?"

  • @BeautiFlyB yeah i noticed that too, thats a pic of chaka.i have seen pics of vesta with big hair too though. when vesta was heavyset she reminds me of kim coles from Living Single.

  • The one thing I always remembered about Vesta ever since I was a kid was that she was one SEXY WOMAN! R.I.P Vesta!

  • I love her grow up on her music RIP

  • She died of an enlarged heart. And she was 53 and looked good for 53 if you ask me. R.I.P

  • When I First Saw Vesta She Was Thick......Damn I Thought She Was Sexxy

  • if they ever do a movie about her i think monica would be a great person for the role of vesta

  • Everybody wants to be in the business but they have no idea what the price of their soul is and the demons they may have to fight for success. I know first hand.

  • A sweet, funny, talented, beautiful woman gone to soon. You'll be missed Vest!!-3

  • This just broke my heart, to watch a light go into the eternal like that. I had her albums and enjoyed the feelings they envoked.

  • I really didn't know who she was before she died. I think I saw her on Sister Sister because I grew up in that era. But man, after seeing this, I'm more curious about her and part of me wishes I had known her.

  • I love her sense of humor! lol she was hilarious, but wow most of her jokes were at her own expense. I guess it's kool to be able to laugh at yourself and crack jokes. Shoot, I do it to myself.

  • Vesta's voice reminds me of Chaka Khan's. Don't mean to offend her fans but hey, her vocal style and actual voice sounds like Chaka.

  • @missjanet88 It does! I thought the same thing!

  • your post are absolutely fabulous. thank you

  • One thing I loved and going to miss about Vesta Williams is her funny spirit! R.I.P. Vesta!

  • hmm im still baffled as to why A&M treated her the way they did I know there are two sides to every story but to me its a mystery as to why she at least never had any gold albums or why her singles were not supported via the labels pop department...[and yea i know at the time Janet Jackson was the big priority at the time so maybe I answered my own question]

  • 24:20 I thought somebody was following but it was my ass .....oh my god LMAO. She had me cracking up the whole episode....RIP Vesta.

  • Thanks for those who have to choose necessities over cable blessings.

  • Thanks for posting!

  • Manyek, I can't say how grateful I am that you upload the unsung docs.

    Thank you....thank you.

  • This made me so sad... :(

  • Vesta wanted to be Chaka and adored Chaka so bad that she didnt find her identity, its a shame because she would have been huge!

  • @raybarks100 I never got that impression at all. There may have been some similar tones in their singing voices but they had different songs, a different look and very different personalities. I must be the only person that never compared the two of them and sees them very differently.

  • @segapink Add me to that list. I agree with you. I believe their voices are extremely similar, however, they are two different people, different personalities, different styles.

  • If Vesta truly had been a quitter, she would have given up on life long before. Rest in peace.

  • Vesta I LOVE YOU. I am very sad you passed. Our loss is Heaven's gain. You were one of my FAVORITE artists of all time. You were SO BEAUTIFUL and so TALENTED. It saddened me to see you diss yourself for being overweight in the past. I think you were absolutely GORGEOUS as a full figured woman, without a flaw. She had the spirit of a fighter, truly. She kept fighting to the end, I believe. That is truly what I believe. She didn't give up on life, no matter how the outcome might have looked.

  • Beuatiful simply Beautiful

  • RIP Vesta.

  • Comment removed

  • I'm confused by some comments, if you have been as large as Vesta had been & have had a drug problem it puts a strain on your heart... I was under the impression that she had been off drugs since the 90s and her autopsy spoke of congenital heart disease. Why are we saying that she was on drugs even through this interview...cause she sure doesn't sound under the influence...???

  • Who the hell gives a teenager drugs...

  • @juliusmaloney it happens everyday....

  • Sometimes Vesta sounds like Chaka Khan & sometimes Anita Baker...

  • @juliusmaloney i like vesta, but she ain't never been no chaka khan. lol.

  • @MissNophi2U And thank goodness for that because Chaka Khan is great but has always been overrated in my opinion. You probably would be singing a different tune if Vesta had been given the Pop crossover that she deserved with her immense talent. The music business is evil to a lot of people. They can enslave you and be in total control of how far an artist can go. Very unfair and disgusting treatment. That is why there are so many Unsung episodes.

  • @MissNophi2U i know right vesta better

  • @juliusmaloney what songs does she sound like Anita on?

  • @thereliant1 'Sweet, Sweet Love', similar phrasing to Anita Baker.

  • @thereliant1 Also 'Special' is very Anita-esque...

  • Thanks.

  • she look more fine thin then she was fat

  • My main man, Manyek! thanks for puttin this up...been waitin a good while for this.

  • RIP

  • She seemed so funny! LOL!!

  • Ok, maybe she wasn't on drugs during this interview, I mean I don't know, but there was definitely something missing in her eyes, there was a void; I don't know.... she was one of my favorites though...

  • @porgynbess Sex as hell!!! that's what I see, lol!!!

  • @porgynbess When you suffer from depression, which she did, yes, people may view you as different. When you are clinically depressed, it's always there. It may get better but you always battle it. I don't think she was sufferring from any major bouts at the time of these interviews, though. She was very upbeat.

  • I truly hate to say this, but she was on drugs even during this interview... I loved Vesta; not only could she sing, but she had one of the greatest personalities in show biz; she was so funny, and multi-talented, I was so shocked to hear of her death. She will truly be missed, God bless her soul...

  • WOW......That Was Amazing & Sad & Wonderful & Touching All Rolled Up Into One. Thank You For Sharing This Heartfelt Story. I'm No Crybaby But This One Broke Me Down.

  • Congradulations is a vocal tour de force. One of the greatest vocal performance of all time.

I remember that year Grambling's band used play that song a lot. I lived about an hour away from Grambling, and went to games a lot.

  • The final Vesta Williams interview. RIP Vesta

  • Wow! Thank you for posting.Vesta was amazing

  • Beautiful lady with a great voice. The Ella Fitzgerald story at the end was everything!

  • What a rollercoaster. I'm laughing and crying, all at the same time.

  • Man this was wondering thanks for posting !

  • take your rest now Ms.Williams you deserve it ! .... the good ones always go so soon ! ... I hope they do a UNSUNG on Soul/Gospel/Disco Singer Loleatta Holloway whose passing in March of 2011 went unnoticed ! .and so has her music . her voice was in a class all by itself! ... great uploads @Manyek

  • her story is so sad !... I hate that when she was heavy she disliked herself.,whether big or small her face was a work of art ! just a strikingly beautiful woman. of course she wanted a bigger career but she along with several others really couldnt survive in the Janet/Madonna era of the 80s-90s. They say she was the happiest about this show .. the sad thing is she exited before it was broadcast ! she really wanted a comeback ! She did seem a bit tired in the eyes during her interviews...

  • wow, i was not familiar with her but had probably seen her as many times as i had seen chaka kahn - thank you, this is a beautiful documentary to a wonderful artist.

  • It's so sad listening to her diss her formerly fat self....Her story makes me want to learn how to love and embrace my physical imperfections.

  • *tears* May she rest in love.

  • THANK U!

  • Thanx for uploading...had no idea she had passed.

  • Unbelievable talent gone too soon!! Thanks very much for posting this!! Please keep them Unsung episodes coming!!

  • Thank You for sharing this! Please continue to bring more..... peace and blessings to you.
