@JixMa Many people throughout the world reread the books many times. As Sean says, there is much to be gotten from them, depending on what you bring with you. If you have nothing to bring, you'll get nothing out.
@iheartsmith U don't find this guy's lauding praise over this work a little too sickening & insufferable to take? Astin's a twit! The story's really pretty stupid if U think about (& has been pointed out by others) like the biggest plot hole in it -- why didn't they simply fly to Mt. Doom with the help of Gandolf & throw the ring in? It's ridiculous! Again, Astin's a big twit & I find it amazing people don't see it. His politics are really insufferable, too (I saw him on some cable "news" show).
@JixMa take into account the fact when these books were made and how they were made, then fast forward to the present, where even the lamest of the lame knows everything on the internet and decides to say, "well why didn't he do this???" well...as George Lucas said (LoL) well you go and give a go at it...make your OWN! i trust flying to a volcano is much more boring than journeying to one as well as keeping track of what everyone else is doing. appreciate things...quit trying to hate them.
