@Soap74205 Well i did mute some of them, especially those that heavily clashed, but on the whole kept in the sound because a lot of it was the viper pilot's radio chat, which worked well because it cause them in mid combat and sounded like the combat footage. It to me just added an extra layer which helped when the music and voiceover were quiet to keep the feel of the video going. Thanks anyway though
@TheOrdomalleus666 Cheers, glad you enjoyed it. I've done a few videos that are centered around both vipers and battlestars, though at present I won't be making any more videos due to lack of time. I'm not sure if i ever will make any more videos to be perfectly honest.
@SimsonSchwalbenPilot If you look at the date of uploading this was over 3 years ago now. I didn't have any better quality clips at the time so couldn't upload in higher quality (and won't re-upload either as I don't have the files anymore).
@DisturbedRenegade Those are cargo containers (part of the cargo ships) which were used to transport vipers for the attack in the episode "The Hand of God". Hope this helps
@jointtaskforce11 Thanks, i forget to put that in the video description, but i guess your comment actually sums it up a lot better. Would I be able to copy that and put it in the video description so all can see and know which pieces of the BSG soundtrack where used where and when?
@mrlonerme You only see that really the later you get in the series (first noticed in the middle of series 1, and best shown in the battle of the nebula in series 4.0). Yeah they do, mainly because they're half organic from what i know, maybe a mix between the origional cylons and the human cylons, half way inbetween somewhere.
Really nice video tribute to the Viper and the fallen Viper Pilots. It was really great to see this! When you get a chance check out my drawing and CGI model of the Viper Mark II. Let me know what you think.
i am a hobby film maker too (but not here on YouTube so far), and because of that, i know how long it could take to edit such a thing. I just want to say, that this was a very good one for your first attempt. The music choice was perfect for this. Good idea too edit the names of the fallen pilots in this (but maybe your idea started with this anyway). Too bad BSG is over (another season would have been perfect), but with those fan vids the spirit lives on.
Cheers mate. This was done a long time ago on windows movie maker so... the ideas were some of my best, the editing wasn't as good as i could do now, but I don't want to revisit it and try to do a remake as i feel i will destroy the overall idea of it.
The whole idea of my video was based origionally around the names of the fallen pilots, and it kind of grew from that. Before i started editing i only had that speech and the 2 tracks Martial law and Kats sacrifice in my head
I know one thing with all those mini thrusters all over the body vipers are some of the most manueverable sci-fi fighters ever you cant do the kind of stuff they do with a x-wing
Huh, well this is the first video I have seen with battlestar's music. You would think that battlestar's music would fit best with a BSG music video, but E.S. Posthumus, and all the other instrumental groups come up.
I think, with reference to ftl, it would be impossible, though without ftl, it would still probably be almost impossible. It's to do with the sheer scale of it, and the fact we don't have building facilities in space (You could not build this piece by piece on earth.) Vipers and raptors maybe be possible, but they still have technology and designs beyond our knowledge mostly, so it probably wouldnt work. Give it say 50-200 years, and we will probably be there at this rate, even with cylons =/
it flies better than the x-xing and is a better dog fighting ship, so its my favourite aswell. And it just has a look to it :P especially the mark VII
Theres no footage from the series of Tigh in a cockpit, so i can't really put him in a combat scene fighting. Yes he may of been a pilot, but without clips i can't do much.
The same is with Adama, at that time i didn't have any razor clips, and i download NONE of the footage i use in my videos, they are from the dvds i bought. I believe it is the same with Kelly, i've never seen him in a viper cock pit either, but with the limited clips i couldnt put them in even if they had been in the cockpit
Great video. However, one thing has always bothered me about the viper. Why would anyone design a ship that has the pilot pressed right up against the engines? The noise and heat would be unbearable; especially in atmosphere. And during a battle even the slightest impact fron enemy ordinance would spell certain injury or death for the pilot. If the cockpit was at the front the pilot would at least stand a chance of surviving his exploding ship. He would also have better combat vision.
I believe that the cock pit that far back would have combatted the G forces acting on a pilot, don't forget, the viper does turn 180 degrees in .32 of a second (starbuck says). Also, in space, the temperature is generaly close to freezing, or boiling hot anyway, but the cold would effectively cut out the heat to the pilot. If the ship was hit anyway, the chances of a pilot surviving the blast are limited, but depends on where the ship is hit, as we see one engine can be taken out, but not blowup
Thanks for the surprisingly quick reply. I take all your points and the G-force thing had crossed my mind. However, if you look at the FAIRCHILD A-10 TANKBUSTER a real aeroplane that is very similar to the VIPER in design the cockpit is right at the front of the ship. But hey, lets not get to serious about this. The VIPER is still the coolest, most kick ass fighter in the scfi universe! So say we all!
Yeah the viper is one of the best space combat ships ever designed, and it is up there with the X wing from star wars (they both look very similar in design, and indeed can be made to look like the other easily)
The mark two in my opinion is an outstanding ship. But there's an elegance about the Mark 7 which just makes it the better craft for me, the more high tec equipment, the design, the smooth edges etc. I'm glad they kept the old design.
Hey man, thankyou very much for this video, I love BSG and I love the viper! As for some of the questions posed above- for example, the engines behind the cockpit? There is no sound in space so noise is not a problem, and as you correctly pointed out, the pilots have to endure extreme Gforces, so centralising the cockpit reduces that. As for survivability, the show has shown us countless times that the Viper is actually fairly tough. Thanks again, I love this video :)
Thanks for watching, and im glad you enjoyed it =D
The viper is possibly the best ever single seat fighter craft in any scifi film or show, and that includes star wars, as a viper can outmanourvre the x wing no problem. And yeah, the viper can endure alot, such as get it's engine shot up, but still manourvre slightly and fight, shown by lee when he broke his ship lol.
You should look at my other videos, as they get better in the editing as they go along, as this was my first try at movie makin
Just as point of note the viper is the first fighter based around true null-g fighting. Lucas got lazy and used WW2 Gun Cam footage to create the fighter scenes. So yes it is the best cuz it was desgined for the conditions it fought in lol..
Love teh vid kinda missed a couple pilots I think. How far into the series were you when you made this?
I've seen the whole of bsg so far, up to the end of the first half of season 4 (very very good ending, just wish it wasn't only half the series)
Yeah, a few pilots were missed off, but i had limited clips to use, so couldn't get all the scenes i could have (i get them all myself, no downloading involved). And also, the audio was taken from the episodes "scar" in season 2, so would have missed quite a load of pilots.
The camera angle is what makes the series awsome.
i digress (yea I like to prove to everyone i have a big vocab.) for some reason I thought the voice over was from somewhere else lol. And yea the whole man floating in space dilming the whole things is pretty nuts. Its just a frakking well made series.
Actually, the engines WOULD make noise since they are attached to the cockpit and would create vibrations which would be hear through the air in the ship.
Yeah, that's a point, and i remember hearing engines when you get a viper pilots view of things. But even when they are in space you still here explosions and other stuff, which you wouldn't actually hear. It's just like star wars in that respect, the sound effects of bangs in space, but like star wars, without it, it would get incredible boring, just watching moving pictures, with literally no sound. I just wish there was a sort of viper prototype that could actually fly lol :P Thnks 4 watching
Hey True Sights, for your first video this is very good. You showed potential right away by using voice overs which I personally believe if you get right add a huge amount of depth to the video and your voice over was spot on. Looking forward to seeing how your videos evolve as you do more and more :D

I don't think Dualla was ever qualified as a pilot.
WesOrion 3 years ago
Most likely not, but i don't think anyone said anywhere that she was a viper pilot? She was a CIC officer so probably never even sat in a cockpit.
