Not the three singers, of course, they are wearing heels and socks; it's the other female dancers. . the ones with poodle dresses. .are wearing sneakers and socks, that I'm tawkin' about . . why?!
@Wyzdm I don't know your age, but I grew up in the 1950's and 1960's. Cool footwear for girls was saddle-shoes, (black and white or brown and white), loafers (penny loafers were coolest) and white tennis shoes or "sneakers". These were made of white canvas with rubber soles. To be ultimately cool they had to be dirty, and have holes in them. Shoes from the 1940's were about the same, and included shoes with wedge heels. Costume designers do research, but choices are based on the show.
I'm not sure why it's necessary for these dancers to dress like three dollar whores. If they'd tried to perform dressed like that in the 40's they'd have been arrested.
@jillgivler I know! The costumer apparently bought acetate by the pound. Terrible costuming! But, hey! Who knows what the budget was? But on the other hand...a POODLE skirt? Come on! Do some research! I am embarrassed for this costumer! Sorry, doll. Not my table!
Boogie woogie bugle boy, ripped off by Christine Aggravation, but nontheless a good update, but then, Sing Sing Sing, the greatest swing tune ever, written by Louis Prima arranged by Fletcher Henderson and made famous by Benny Goodman who mixed it with Christopher Columbus to produce a swing classic, Harry James on trumpet, Gene Krupa on drums, I must have played this number a million times and still I get shivers down my spine when I hear it.
It all began on Wednesday, August 21, 1935 at the Palomar Ballroom, Los Angeles. A minute before there was hum-drum; a minute later with, "Sing, Sing, Sing" there was a start to an era!
I lost my Burn The Floor (original show) DVD a few years ago and it's been super hard to find. Thanks so much for posting, because it's one of favorite shows!
Having been a part of the show, I would bet on backing tracks and prop microphones. And THAT's Broadway, its done all the time. Dance or Sing, pick one.
@concurra This isn't a Broadway show and those aren't their actual voices. These are competition ballroom dancers who were thrown together and taught choreography for this show. They aren't actors or singers, just dancers. Check the making-of featurette on the DVD, it's pretty much a documentary of how it all started and where it ended up. Quite fascinating.
@LibertineDeSade wat?!? but there's a "burn the floor" thats on broadway, no? like im pretty sure my teacher (and she danced on broadway for like 20yrs) said that the other one...its called "urban heat" is with broadway dancers...so i figured this was one of those...huh. weird.
@concurra Yes, your teacher is right. There are many incarnations of Burn The Floor now. But this one, the original one, was all competition dancers, from all over the world and it was started in London. The subsequent Burn the Floors are also quite different from this one. IMO, this one is the best. LOL.
@concurra this isn't broadway...fuck broadway. this is the company's live tour and no their not singing, they pre recorded it and their lipsycing. might want to watch the dvd documentary.
lol nice :p this is cool

@Wyzdm That's how young people dressed in the 1940's and 1950's.
bmadejczyk 1 month ago
@bmadejczyk
TY , but girls during that era wore Bobby-sox and Saddle shoes, NOT white sneakers!! Which is why I was wondering the change to modern shoe wear.

Both "Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy" and "Sing Sing Sing" are favorites of mine. And they are both well done here;
However, "Sing Sing Sing" was originally from Benny Goodman in 1938, and poodle skirts from the Fifties. A little chronologically incorrect.
But then the Andrews Sisters couldn't have gotten away with the outfits their counterparts are wearing here, either. Overall, very nicely done. . .
