I met his tour manager in the 90's. KWS is NOT a SELL OUT and does not let outside corporate influences to affect him. I respected the fact that he annoyed the corporate clones i worked with because he wanted full creative control. It's IMO why he kind of disappeared for a while and lost his popularity, he wanted to do the rock star and sing himself thing in LA, but after a while he realized it wasn't working out for him and came back to his roots.
@devingreco - He always puts on a great show and the new album is really solid. There aren't many guys in the music business as nice as him that have his talent so you disrespect him with all your trash talk. Music is all opinion, there is no basis in fact for arguement so just enjoy the music or listen to something else. Maybe I think he's better than Jimi Hendrix, I don't but if I did I wouldn't be wrong about it because it's taste and opinion. Their like @ssh0le$ everyone has one.
saw him live for the first time last year.. had only heard of him and didn't really listen to his music but this guy has MAJOR TALENT.. thought for a second I was listening to SRV...
Lots of negativity on the comments. Give the guy a chance he is very young and room for growth. Hell he certainly has a great head start! Sounds Good to me!!
@37sikora he doesnt know how to read music; but hes still doing better than you. Probably he has soemthing you dont feeling and the power to make people cry laugh and sing
@37sikora dude u said he has no knolegde of music and are implying that that is a bad thing. I am saying that he doesnt need too. Iam tired ofall these theory people; Always talking about minor and major. I learn everyhitng by ear and guiess what- im10 times more advanced then anyone who has been taking theory- they focus on that and not tone and feeling and not actually playing the guitar. So whatifhe only plays pentatnic- so did hendrix- does he know other scales?surebuthegetswhahewants across
@jacktheguitarman look kid. he obviously has some knowledge of music, but this doesn't come down to theory. i am not a "theory guy". i smoke weed all day, and learned music through years of experimentation, lessons, and classical ear-training. but i will say that at age 15, a classical theory class opened my ears in ways i never thought possible. that and LSD... don't be a robot, but don't get so caught up in your rebellion that you fail to learn from whats around. study everything...
@jacktheguitarman the dude is obviously very good at his instrument. but when you are looking at the best of the best, he is pretty low on that list. its a shame because he could be better. he has the talent. but i just wonder why he doesn't do more with it.
Bottom line...I dont see anyone on stage up there but Kenny Wayne, and if you wanna be a net nerd and pick apart this man's chops, post a video and lets see yours...no? thats what I thought. Kenny Wayne Sheppard is an amazing guitar player
@mellowmusician In case you don't realize it, Kenny's chops are not extraordinary on the world stage...but he is very good for a typical local guitarist. His licks are a dime a dozen for thousands of guitarists around the world.
@mellowmusician In case you don't realize it, Kenny's chops are not extraordinary on the world stage...but he is very good for a typical local guitarist. His licks are a dime a dozen for thousands of guitarists around the world. If Kenny stole the show, it's because he is young and has to shake his head and make Stevie wannabee faces to make up for the lack of true musicianship
I am sorry I have to disagree. This video is not that great. I just saw Kenny Wayne Shepherd here with the Experience Hendrix Tour in Indinapolis. It was this past Saturday. I love Vai and Eric Johnson but Kenny Wayne burnt the house down.
The three songs he played were Come On, Voodoo Child, and Voodoo Chile. The guy stole the show. I am not a huge Kenny Wayne fan but the dude smokes. He can play Hendrix very well. This is not a good example here in this video. Peace.
He must feel like crap considering he's been around so long yet John Mayer has surpassed him in the 'white blues player' category with the general public.
@TheConstruct I give KWS credit. He was a "Kid Prodigy" guitar player and got thrown into that just because of his age. He could have faded away but he sticks around. I just saw him live during this tour and he NAILED it--pulled out every stop. As for John Mayer, probably my favorite blues guitarist. But I give KWS this--he never wrote "Your Body is a Wonderland" or any of that pop stuff. I get it though John--you gotta pay for all of those expensive watches you're into. 2 different guitarists.
@TheConstruct I agree...Kenny really blew his career when he came out with The Place You're In. I used to be a HUGE KWS fan but once he made that album John Mayer Released the TRY! album that def stole the show for me..sorry Kenny.
@Brainiac83 Yeh, I mean, the thing I don't reallly like this guy is his playin' actually, it doesn't look like he plays the guitar like he really means it, idk how to put in in words really. I'm not saying he doesn't play very fucking great, but it doesn't moves me, at all.
I have met Kenny 4 times over the years. He is so kind and friendly. He went out of his way to talk to us and especially my shy 7 yr old daughter. I would rate Kenny as being VERY FAN FRIENDLY. I personally believe that Kenny puts on the best live show of anyone around today. KWS ROCKS!

I met Kenny Wayne down in Shreveport, Louisiana and he is the most arrogant dick I've met in awhile! He thinks everyone should just bow down to him and to me he isn't all that great! I could smoke his ass on guitar anyday!
Finally figured it out. Kenny is a talent and he is so 'clean' and technical ,enjoyed seeing him at House of Blues but Hendrix had lust that Kenny wont touch.
Looks to me like KWS has upped his game a little. I just wish he'd stop trying to be Stevie all the time. I've heard him play numerous versions of this song and some of them display HIS playing awesomely. This is very El Mocambo/Austin City Limits '83.

you can tell that he has no knowledge of music based on his playing. he is very limited to a basic minor pentatonic scale.
