Alex Kelly should have gotten more prison time. However, One of the reasons why the State never went after the parents is that they were concerned about a mistrial. You see Alex was the middle of three brothers. The oldest died of a drug overdose when Alex was on the run. The Youngest died in a car accident. Prosecutors knew that some jurors would feel sympathy for the parents.

The parents (Joe & Melanie Kelly) should have been arrested and charged with aiding and abetting, accessory after the fact, and/or conspiracy. Perhaps the defense attorney, knowing full well Alex Kelly was guilty, should have been arrested and charged with similar offenses as well. No defense attorney should ever lie for a client, especially in a court seeking justice.
