Another point, instead of looking at Hamlin's hand, try looking at the Korean skaters left hand. Notice that his hand does something funny; his hand suddenly goes flat onto the ice (usually should just be finger tips). That is when he lost his balance and his speed.
You have to know that as the Korean skater was falling (lost his balance and nearly put his left toe into the ice), he was also slowing down (relatively) and as he was falling toward the inside, was taking up more track. This put him into the over taking skaters path. You can't win a race by slowing down. Remember too that they are going near 50 km per hour.
@TheKid - I understand what u say-I agree Si-Bak was on his way already before Charles touched him - but understand me- I have been skating and racing shorttrack since the early 80s and now I coach it- and I study the sport waaay more than u do - Hamelins touch was very light, but at that moment it was the straw on the camels back.
I have filmed si-bak and hamelin many many times as I am a professional sports journalist for shorttrack- so know who you are talking too dude.
dude the korean was obviously already falling before he even touched him. his foot slides before the touch, and ohno's hand does look like he is pushing but I think the guy just got too low and wasnt able to take the contact that is expected in short track speed skating
@vimonheim lol it's funny because the lower you are the more stable you are in speed skating. i would know because i speed skate and thats not ohno, thats charles hamelin, not ohno...
in Shorttrack sometime even a slight touch is all that's needed at the right moment to send you down- Even though he was unstable, there's no way Si-Bak would have fallen without that touch from Charles- it's obvious. Bad call.
@Barraldinho actually sung si-bak was already falling, alittle touch like that doesn't do anything. You obviously don't know what skating shorttrack is like. There is so much more pushing and shoving that happens in a race and skaters learn to skate and adjust. There is no way that charles touching si-bak made him fall, his right boot was already on the ice and there was no doubt he was going down. Learn more about the sport before you comment on skating video.

who cares what his name is, its just another stupid classless gook.
nice attempt at grabbing hamelin's skate because you cant accept you choked and even though it wont change anything to your result. what a fucking sore loser, that was so classless and immature its not even funny.
roy jones is still waiting for his gold medal, by the way.
i dont think he pushed the guy because i think the turn was just too sharp and he lost his balance. he barely touched the guy, i dont think there was enough force to be the of cause the fall but poor guy, it was almost his medal :( he wouldve deserved it
sung si bak fell by him self, and you notice that when you look at his right blade.. it just breaks out of the ice. hamelin protected himself.. but there was no push for sure.
It sure looks like Hamelin pushed Sung Si Bak. The referees should have disqualified Hamelin, but they didn't...because they were Canadian and biased in his favour. This is exactly what Apolo Ohno said in an interview with NBC after the race. And yes, I'm saying this with complete objectivity and impartiality, because I AM CANADIAN, and proud of the fact that we won 14 gold medals. However, we didn't deserve this one!
@13Kakashikills13 its not true the problem was first casued by the other canadian and he pushed charles and then charles bushed sung si bak so then they both fell
I will admit that sung si bak did lose "some" balance before Hamelin touched him but he wouldn't have fell just because of that. When si bak was losing his balance Hamelin pushed him a little and as Hamelin was losing his own balance he kicked sung's balance hand. However, behind them. Ohno's push was obvious. When you put up a hand to protect yourself, you don't push your hand out. Ohno did put his hand out to push him.
@wlsaudrja5 he didnt kick his balance hand look at 0:43 si bak already fell and his hand got in the way of where hamelin was skating..it hit hamelin's skate and he lost balance aswell but made it to the finish line
im american, and as much as i love ohno, his so called 'push' is debatable...i can see where and why the judges DQed him, but i feel as if it were a harmless touch...as for si-bak, he had lost his balance before hamelin had even touched him...i think thats what it comes down to.
World Championship 2010 Bulgaria,Sofia 1500m Short Track. Men's gold: south korea silvel: south korea bronze: south korea Women: gold: south korea silver: south korea bronze: south korea Will there be a nation in the world who can beat this record?????????????? Short Track was invented by S. Korea. Go Korea! Never seen in sport history something like this a nation collecting all medals for mens and womens at the same event!!!!! Wow. It wont never break.
Put a circle around anything you want. The critical point happens, as previously mentioned, around 1:39. If you look at the sequence just prior to this. Lee is untouched, his right foot then slips, and it is the slipping that causes him to drop his right arm down, which is the point of loss of control. NOBODY would put their right hand accross their body to catch themselves, unless about to fall!!! Hi is unbalanced at this point. He fell on his own. Sorry, no armpit push conspiracy!!
The Korean fell on his own the first time that I saw that I thought that Hamelins skate blade cut the koreans fingers I'm glad he didn't though when I saw trombley fall I was watching with my dad in we have a pvr so I got him to reverse it and and we saw that trombley got pushed by apolo not the best think to happen in one of your last races because he got discalified. Oh well Canada won gold and that makes me happy
I think that Hamelin could've fallen just as easily I am not so sure about the contact if there was any but two skaters around tight corner being so close together at high speed can cause air flow to change suddenly. It's a very hard call but I think Hamelin won. Skoreans can give away a gold medal to Canada. They really need this win. If I was that Korean skater and I felt that Hamelin was pushing me? I doubt that Hamelin can stay on ice.
Hamelin has not done nothing to push Lee down; Lee has already lost his balance and Hamelin's contact was TOTALLY in-rule, it's obvious that then Lee fell.. About Ohno, well, in this vid it really seems that he TOTALLY pushed Tremblay - is the other Canadian Tremblay? - but from the vid the italian tv broadcast - form behind - It seemed like a simple in-rule push, whil he was trying to pass... Well, I don't know what to think about.
Surely Hamelin have won fairly. [Sorry for bad ENG]
Yo wtf? I speed skate and I know that when he brushed his finger past his armpit he won't fall... He had already lost his balance out of that corner. But apolo... I expected him to win but what is done is done.
when I see this vid repeatedly, I found something that Careles unnecessarily pushed his right hand under Lee's armpit and that could be tipping point that Lee lost balance competely. Lee could have regained the balance. and Oh no~~~I have nothing else to say to you Oh no...You surely play short track with your hands not ur legs.
the sport is dirty. Its a CONTACT sport with violence as a part of the rules. Stop your crying. Koreans have a victim complex, thinking everyone does something against them. lol. No one gives a shit about that little country.
He never pushed him. He already lost his balance and was falling down. Charles Hamelin was swinging his arm as a normal stride but just brushed his arm by the Korean while he already lost his balance.

This is an OK angle but if you see it from the finish line, you can see Apolo pushing the Canadian in front of him.
This is one of the few moment that Apolo Anton Ohno cheated.
[I have and still am a big fan of Apolo, the second best short track skater in the world-Ahn H. S. is the best]

The Canadian guy behind was leaning onto Charlie due to the push by Apolo.
The finish was a mess but Charlie still deserved the win as Sung made mistake by himself and you cant blame anyone for that,

Should have stepped on his hand then since he was obviously leaving it in the way to obstruct.

notice that happened after contact with hamelin.
(0:23 / 1:50) hamelin goes under ssb in the arm and after the contact when hamelin's arm gets out of the way ssb's right blade breaks.. -_- (1:07)
seriously.. ssb owns the 500 and he fell after the curve.. that doesnt "just happen"

Hamlin did not pushed him. Look at his hand which was on the floor(left i think)
at 1:39, It slipped. Which happens to move his other hand. Which also happens to look like he pushed Sung.
Ohno got disqualified because indeed he pushed the other guy (Trembley? sorry i don't know)
