Not a kit lens people! and almost all lenses will be heard if its in autofocus during videos. thats why you Manual focus.

You can record with the 500D with AF?

Ohh, and btw, if you really wanted to cut the sound, just record the background noise (to have the atmoshphere) and then cut the sound on the original clip and put the backing sound over the top.. No more focusing sounds :)

...but it's not kit sound, it's 50/1.8 sounds. IMHO 18-55 is fine lens, it's cheap and you can do very nice lanscape photo.
