  • Holy Cow 32,279 on this video already congrats...spring yet?

  • i shoot recurve all the time and your spot on. i shoot one arrow and get it because ive ruined to many arrows shooting the first one. by the way i use a release

  • Whoa, shooting for 20 years... That's intense! I'm just a starter

  • @Greyarcher1 This video was truly inspiring. I believe, Sir, you touched on many of the core principles of archery such as self-confidence, willpower and discipline. Simply great.

  • Thank you for making this video.

  • @Remarkable1234 Glad you like it:-)

    -G

  • hey greyarcher..if your still there ,what bow do you have there....i'm thinking of ordering a tomahawk ss take down from 3rivers but its a hell of a lot of money $1000. ...your videos are great tried my switchback xt compound shooting instinctive ,today no mechanical release...love it...i'm gonna go all the way and get a longbow..thanks

  • I like your videos but from what I heard, some people are saying that Instinctive shooting is shooting with out aiming, It's really not before you can be good at Instinctive shooting you have to be use to aiming and shooting and then it becomes natural.

  • @beararche Someone have sen to many Star Wars movies ;-) there are no Jedi Knights:-) we are humans we need to Aim unconsciously or direct it is by repetitions that we get Consistent!! Se my Films :-) -G

  • @Greyarcher1 are you refering to me as the star wars wathcher or the people i'm talking about.

  • @beararcher16 NO Man! there are people that are trying to make it sound like it`s some kind of Magic "The Instinctive shooting" style;-) that`s what i mean, and that`s one of the Reasons i started this Chanel, cos every Body can learn it, if they want? :-)

  • @Greyarcher1 one more thing I have some l turn fletching and I have a jig that can change to help with that but I have had problems with the ends and tips messing up, if you can tell me what the problem is thank you :)

  • @beararcher16 ? don`t really understand what you mean? but most fletching jig problems happens because the Glue has not dry-id proberly.-G

  • @Greyarcher1 I looked at the jig and it's a bit bent. I have a multi fletching jig and the others are fine so im happy, thanks though happy hunting

  • Since watching your videos, I am taking and hitting longer and longer shots.

  • Taking so much from your lessons here, I have started practicing my instinctive shooting at night, completely after sunset. Last night in 1/4 moon light I was hitting the target from 20 yards. Tonight, I hit 3 out of 4 shots. The 2 twenty yards shots hit perfectly. I missed the first 15 yard shot by 4 inches, but nailed the second 15 yard shot dead center. I came in for the night from those 4 shots.

  • You are a straight up MAN. Great video!

  • 2 months ago I was nearly to give up competition ,thanks to greyarcher1 and his videos I won the last ones( by beating most of the others archers compound bows INCLUDED)

with my longbow and wooden arrows on 3D parours.

THANKS SO MUCH i feel alive again not by winning but for the pleasure i have shooting with so great results and so easily I DON'T CARE HOW FAR IS THE TARGET NOW

    it s magic...THANKS GUY

i look forward seeing you shooting on hunting parcour ...

  • @MrChrisberton That is so Wonderful! Man i am as Happy as you are :-)

Yeah! your Hooked for Life Man ;-) Thanks for the feedback.

    -G

  • Instinctive shooting does seem to be a lost art. I truly believe it has more to do with mental conditioning and muscle memory than anything else. If you are confident your mind won't throw off your shots. Muscle memory keeps you on target again and again. Works with firearm shooting as well. Watch Smith & Wesson's Jerry Miculek shoot a target with a revolver 6 times, reload and shoot it 6 more times all while blind folded.

  • would this be good to hunt black bears

  • @Greyarcher1 is that bow good for hunting black bears

  • @IAMTHECAKEdotORG I who`d want more Power than mine 51 LBS, around 60-65 LBS whit a`Trad Bow,to get complete shoot throe;-) even if one hits a`Rib Bone;-)

    -G

  • @IAMTHECAKEdotORG you're mad bro...

  • @Cult1022 how so

  • @IAMTHECAKEdotORG attacking a bear with a bow? it'll survive the first arrow and charge - you'll be fucked. thats why i think it's not whise - thats why i think you're mad. i'm no pro, but i'm just saying...

    -G

  • @Greyarcher1

Men se mina kommande Tester,se min sida!

  • @Greyarcher1

Skickade dig ett pm istället. Håller utkik efter nya leksaken ;)

  • I'm an instinctive shooter, I've always done it and I've been doing traditional archery for about 7 years now.

  • never aimed my bows, just shoot to shoot.

  • where are you located. it looks awesome!

  • @HMCINC1 In the Middle of Sweden a´Town called Östersund -G

  • Personally, I believe, in your video, you are describing what " I " would refer to as ZEN Shooting....just saying...??

PS>>>STYLE....forgive me for getting a bit monkish on you...

  • @foxloner Thank you Man! :-)

    -G

  • Thank you for filming and sharing this video, I found it very useful for my training.

  • Man! Water is god for you;-)

  • Now, I want to go outside and shoot, but it is raining. :(

  • You know, it is funny. I was trusting myself, thinking for myself better than I was trusting my teacher. I don't do anything exactly the way he tell me, or any where near the way he does. He shoots light weight arrows with thin spines. He has no consideration of FOC or center of gravity in his arrows. I shoot heavy arrows, 8 - 10 grains per lb of draw, meaning 580 - 615 grain total weight, with center of gravity @ .29 of length from tip insert ferrule. I practice with the same ONE arrow.

  • Great video. Poetic, even. You say really good things about self trust, about not even listening to doubt and uncertainty.

  • @r22accipiter You know there are now limitations on what you and your Brain can do! it is you who setts the Limitations on what you can achieve,so Don`t limit your self;-)

Be-live in that you can do everything, and maybe you can even fly before you Die!

    -G :-)

  • Bottle shooting helped my accuracy more than target bag shooting. We set up a walking course through the woods, something analogous to a golf course with from 10 to 20 different shot lanes. It is also important to shoot even a small amount frequently, rather too much all one day a year. I shoot only 6 to 20 shots almost everyday. Like you said, "Stare like Superman. Like you're going to burn a hole in your target with your naked eyesight."

  • @r22accipite Perfect training Man! the Smaller the target the better you shoot;-)

    -G

  • My main teacher is my brother in law. His eyesight has never been too good (and he's left handed). Now, his eye sight is terrible. The time we were practicing and the sun went down, when he shot better after twilight than during full daylight, I understood more than ever about instinctive shooting. He also taught me to shoot plastic bottles hanging from tree limbs by strings. I shoot them with rubber blunt points, or with the G5 SGH. Bottle shooting is a form of stump shooting.

  • With consistent technique and consistent equipment, the brain self trains to compensate for parallax effect. I started shooting recurve archery 2 years ago. My technique is similar to yours. My anchor point is higher. What you are explaining is very consistent with my experience. My teachers explained that instinctive shooting was a matter of simply drawing the bow the best way for me and looking at my target, in such a way that looking at my target was all I had to do to hit it. It works.

  • Great video! Please keep making more vids! :-)

  • I have always been an instinctive shooter but I sort of aim down side of arrow but not exactly as you say

  • @micmoable Well! if you look at or even see the Arrow, you are then sighting after the Arrow? And that is not Instinctive,so it is one kind of sight shooting you do :-)

    -G

  • @Greyarcher1 It's been a while now and I think I was mostly looking toward my intended target and sort of having a periphreal view of arrow in my vision as I looked at target--but I can say I was very accurate at close shots of up to 20yards but was a little more less consistent at say 40 yards or further

  • @micmoable OK! that sounds like Instinctive ;-) I think mostly why we miss is because we get unsecured when we go further away from the Target,we tend to psyche our self to miss even before we have let go of the Arrow :-( The trick is not to bother about distances! if you SE the Target ( Very small Target ) you are going to Hit it, that´s the way we shod think;-)

    -G

  • i do have to say while I didn't know what it was called, I've never 'sighted' with my shots. (and since I learned to shoot on a bow bigger than me..) I look at my target then shoot. And once I've 'locked' my target I can look away and still hit it more or less. But I guess its a difference in learning to shoot to get one's dinner.

  • This is my second time watching this very video. I am soaking up some information with a new perspective. Thanks.

  • Aim Small.. Miss Small.

  • That depends on how they are Made? some way or another you have to separate the string and put it in between.

    -G

  • how do you attach the string silencers?

  • I got my first bow nearly a week ago and started aiming down the arrow. I thought if I didn't use a sight I was already 'instinctive' but now I really understand. Thank you so much!

But if I shoot three fingers under the arrow as I started from training at the shop, can I still shot instinctivly?

    Thanks

    Chris

  • @Megorniph Yes! The only thing is that the Arrow comes closer to your Eye and it can be Hard to NOT look at the Arrow, but there are many doing it so?

    -G

  • i find that if you look where you are shooting thats where its going to go. You can look anywhere and draw and you will most likely get close to the target.

  • Great video Greyarcher1!

  • this sounds like a no brainer to me. im a competition trap shooter and with moving targets you can not aim with the bead on a shotgun and make hits consistantly. the gun will go where your eyes look every time if you let it, if you glace down the barrel or attempt to line up the bead, your chances are making the hit are dimished. sounds like a similar concept here. the arrow will go where you look. sure its going to take practice, everything does but this sounds like the best way to shoot.

  • @allhalorules55 Exactly the same! This is the Best way to describe it= periferic sightening or unintensional sighting that a cures beside your vie,

Like you throw a`snowball or A`stone= repeating the motion in the right way makes you consistent.

So it is one kind of sight shooting, but just not direct sighting!

  • Good video. Other good points... don't let go of the arrow, tension your back and let the shot break from your fingers. Focal point is not the target, it is the exact spot where you want the arrow to strike. It is good practice to shoot rolling balls and other moving things because you dont have time to think about the shot.

  • what kind of longbow do you shoot?

  • @coculusmaximus It is a`Swedish made Hybrid Flatbow ;-) se my Chanel about it.

    -G

  • @coculusmaximus It sounds almost like the reverse of hitting a baseball with a bat. The concentration is on the ball. When sufficient skill is achieved, the bat seems to find the ball if the batter focuses on the ball. I suppose this is something that becomes "overlearned" such that the archer eventually doesn't necessarily have to calculate or become too cerebral, rather follow the embedded direction that develops over time with shooting at various distances. Very excellent video, thanks.

  • I think I understand what you are talking about. It's like throwing a rock, you don't look at the rock, you just throw it. Just bought a PSE Sequoia and the less I think about that arrow the better I shoot. It's going to take time I know, been shooting a compound for years and I need to adjust to not using any sights. This longbow does feels like a more down to earth way of shooting, I like it.

  • @Squirrelgrrl1 Yes! if you repeat the motion it get`s into your Muscle memory and in your Head, and the brain memorizes the Hits only! so the more perfect shoots the faster you get it, the Hard thing is NOT to look at the Arrow! Trust your brain and only look at the Target/ the Small Hole or Dot ;-)

  • after this video ... i'm going to buy a bow and start shooting

  • Very well explained! This is the way I try to shoot also, just concentrate on the target. We are trying to use a certain part of our brain the same way as we do when we throw a stone at something, which is totally different from 'aiming' or sight shooting. Good video, thanks!

  • wonderful video, I like all your videos...I recently ordered a 55# turkish bow at 28"(it can be drawn up to 32"), I could draw it up to 32" but I think it would get more difficult and the shots might not be that accurate...I chose 30" arrows, are they too short? I normally draw up to 29" max 30"...

  • @andrei131313 Well The Length of the Arrows has nothing to do whit it!

you need the right Spine, and you need to find out your Drag length?Se my Films about it.

    -G

  • @andrei131313 depends on how heavy the arrow is. but with a 55 pound bow, you should be fine.

  • nice vid! i'm getting into archery, thanks!

  • you explain it well! as long as you draw the bow to the same point and same place everytime and let the arrow fly your brain will fix it for you over time! great video i love it! on a side note.. what is your accent?

  • @94madmike I don`t know LOL Born in Finland Raised in Sweden,Learned English from TV ;-) TV....Accent?

  • Hey great video you have here, im feeling confident too shoot now. Just wondering, i have a 20lb recurve bow, is it still possible to shoot instinctively at lets say 15m or above? If not, how would i get around to hitting my target with such a weak bow?

  • @surfpipeful That can be tricky! you need a`heavier Bow;-(

    -G

  • @Greyarcher1 Ok thanks. Is there any advice you could give me for lighter poundage bows? Considering that its my only option for now because i dont want to waste money.

    thank you :)

  • @surfpipeful Sorry don`t have any Ideà.

    -G

  • @surfpipeful I have light bows for my kids. They shoot short arrows. I draw them to my face the way Abo. people with small bows often do. There is a pinch release at the arrow with the lower fingers over the string. I find it really easy to hit with, even considering the looping trajectory. If the bow allowed me to draw it back fully as one Bear recurve we have does, I would shoot it normally as I shoot my regular bows. There is nothing really that unusual about a 20 pound bow.

  • jus buy a glock old man

  • Great Video. Helped me a great deal. I started shooting archery originally as a Compound, Fingers, Pins shooter. I won many Tounaments and awards over the years with it. Decided to get away from the gadgets and try traditional. Let's just say it was a humbling feeling going from one of the best, too one of the worst over night. After a lot mental reprogramming, practice, and broke arrows. I sold the Compound, see no reason to ever shoot it again. Thank you.

  • @ictech341 I recognize that! i started the same Way:-) Those war the Times, after a`while i started to enjoy tuning the Compound, and after a few Years when i started to hit everything every time?it was not funny any more took of Al The Gear and started shooting Instinctively ,bought me a` Recurve and The rest is Like a´Love Story ? i Have a`BAD Addiction now Days;-) and kind of who`d like others to feel The same,so i started this Chanel:-) Thank you for watching. -G

  • @ictech341 : Thats great ! Simple is the best !

  • I am 47 years old graduating to a 70 pound self bow I carved myself with a pocket knife. This style of shooting is pure gut feeling, you stare at the target and instinctively, your body assumes the right stance and form to hit the target intuitively. Over analysing just spoils the shot.

  • cool!

  • great video.., I guest pretty much same principal like basket ball.. you shoot the ball instinctive too :)

  • @WDTVman Right on ;-)

  • DID YOU JUST DRAW ON CAMERA MAN?

  • @dingycruiser :-( Sorry!

  • This is a great video. I am 52 years old and started shooting just this past January. After working up on weight from 26 to 40 pounds I have reached my goal of shooting a longbow (reflex/deflex) and have been working on instinctive shooting and hope it is something that is not lost. THANK YOU!!!

  • @mrfosterbe O Man It`s for Archers like you i am doing this for, and getting Feedback from you is my Reward :-)

    -G

  • Very good video, thanks

  • Mr. Grey ,this is the best video about archery I've ever seen! It's a life lesson, congratulations!

I am very happy to have seen it. Thanks for sharing your experimenting with the people.

  • @mariosmp77 Thank you ! Glad i can Help :-) Please Se my Chanel i got more Films!

    -G

  • This is a Very Good instructional Video I myself shoot instinctive and have all my life I started at age 6yrs old Very well exsplained Grey. Rod

  • @TheWaggaBloke Thanks Rod :-)

    -G

  • Very good teaching . I actually think that instinctive shooting is programmed in our genes , it have been so important for our survival . Thank you for the good videos.

  • @bassetter1 I agree i Have seen Al kind of people doing it whit in an Hour, but there are to many people that DON`t trust there Brains ;-)

    -G

  • @Greyarcher1 I have been making and shooting holmegaards for 4-5 years now but you have inspired me to pick up my old samick reflex/deflex again :) I had forgotten how fun it is to shoot . I am planning to reinforce it so i can make it center shot .

  • @bassetter1 God on you Man;-)

  • This is an amazing video! Thank you G! You know your stuff

  • @verizonsucks1324 Thanks Man! And god shooting ;-)

    -G

  • right on 51 yrs old started shooting 25# all fiberglass bow as a youth went to my dad's 50 # ben person 66 inch long bow deer hunting was impressed with the coming on of the compound bow but lost that since of bow hunting now i will only shoot my fred bear 55# recurve with cedar arrows and bear razor heads your video is right on

  • @bbbeley Thank`s Man.

    -G

  • @kenny1979 Oh Thank YOU!

  • Just wanted your opinion on something. I am left eye dominant and want to get a little more serious about bow shooting. I have shot my whole life from the right, should I try to convert myself due to my eye dominance or just try to make due?

  • @CanadianCanoeist The problem is if you are an Instinctive Archer ( and only for Instinctive shooters ),That you will never get the FINE precision whit wrong eye Dominance.

    -G

  • @CanadianCanoeist

",That you will never get the FINE precision whit wrong eye Dominance."

That said, and it is true that normally dominance should determine RH LH, but Howard Hill was left eye dominant and shot right handed. There are arguments as to whether he shot instinctively. He certainly shot barebow. But I believe he was instinctive also, certainly could not have made all those amazing trick shots, and moving shots with an aimed style. And he was the "Greatest Archer" of all time.

  • @Proaconstructor well NOTHING is impossible? if you want it that much you are going to make it,that`s what the BRAIN is trying to tell us ;-)

  • Thank You For Posting This Video!

This is great advice on the mental technique to become a successful archer!

I love the positive reinforcement you give beginners to shot close and build confidence. As a beginner I thought I should shoot from 20+ yards and I was completely inconsistent. I realize now that shooting close is not cheating to be accurate, however it's building confidence to move further out and remain accurate!

Thank you for Helping me shoot better!

  • @talleywho You got it right Man;-)

  • @talleywho

It is like anything your learn, one should fully learn the basics before you move on. Given that there is a distance from which one can't miss, it seems natural to assume one might as well try from a medium distance, but until you are very very consistent at the near targets, there is little point moving back. Like watching hack golfers play from all the way back. It is amazing at shoots how many archer miss the near targets or shoot the chrono. :)

  • @Proaconstructor Right on Man!

  • hi long bow hunter your video is amazing and simple very (not b.s) really help me to be confident a bout use mi recurve and long bow we thanks

  • @juanelcazador300 Thanks! thats Al i want to Help you Al!

  • Hey, I got a little question 'bout your avatar: Are you a furry? Nice videos, btw. Already subbed ya

  • @ekkkkkknoes I don`t now what it is? i think it is a`Wolf,i Thoth it looked kind of nice ;-)

    -G

  • I have enjoyed your videos so much, but this really is the best for me. I have got more usefull information from you than i have for my archery club. I also fly fish, but i have been fly fishing for years, whereas i have only recently begun archery. thank you again, you have been an excellent teacher!

  • @aaronrushton1 Thank you! Getting feedback like this Man It`s wonderful, it fells like i am doing something right ;-)

    -G

  • You sir, are amazing. Thank you for this. This was the vid I've been looking for.

  • @earthlyinfodotcom O Thank you :-) i am Glad i can Help!

  • Wow, this was amazing! Thank you!

  • You are truly what archery is all about. Thank you for your time and for your support of something very dear to me. Archery, is a way of life.

  • The only thing better than someone who is really good at something is someone who takes the time to share their knowledge with others. Your efforts are really appreciated Greyarcher, thank you. If you are ever in New Zealand (south island) make sure you come to the 'canterbury archers' 3d club.

  • @MrPretzelbreath Thank you for the invite,New Zealand is a`Dream destination for a`Fly fisher like me so one Day Maybe i will come ;-)

I have been shooting a little while and love it more everytime I get out there but you have been shooting for way longer and you are still like a child with a toy. I mean this respectfully, it's so nice to see and it inspires me to know that you can just keep enjoying this sport forever. I also like seeing your countryside and also your amazing bow. • Hi Greyarcher1

I have subscribed to your channel, but need you to write a short review for me on my Lulu Book page. Can you correspond with me on email where I can give you more information. I am just becoming familiar with YouTube, but they will not let me send you my book website for some reason. johhno1000.

  • Hi Grey Archer,

I would appreciate a short review on my book from you if possible: 'Relative-speed Archery Games for the Instinctive Shooter'. Could you please get in touch with me on Facebook johhno1000: then I can give you the exact website of my book review page. I shoot exactly as you do, and shoot my own bows and arrows. I would like you as a friend on Facebook, as we have a lot in common, John.

  • @johhno1000 Sorry Johnno I don`t Have a`Facebook Paige and i will never get it!

But you can send me Personal Mail by My you tube Paige now ;-)

  • Very nice video!! Well explained!! In my opinion that what we call instinctive, or intuitive shooting is of course also a kind of system, because we learn, or brains learn on each shot we make, and ever have made.....since our very first bowshot.....Best Wishes, Peter O. Stecher

  • @LegendStickArchery Right on! Peter ;-)

  • Helped? Simply say , I did not know what to do. I even intend to buy a DVD of Rick Welch. Now there's no need. THANK YOU

  • @tragomvuka Great Man! thats the hole idea god shooting ;-)

  • I have received my first longbow, I trust that I can hit the target, any tips for a newbie?

  • @methinx Congratulations! you can do it the easy way- sight after the Arrow or my way, se my Vids!!!!

  • Just glad if i can Help ;-)

  • Thnx for your insights.
