  • so fast

  • fuck you man wright the whole name beacuse theres a great diference between sugar ray ROBINSON the greatest boxer of all time and leonard.when i want to see sugar ray i want to see sugar ray not a porody of him.

  • he look like a skinnier version of ali wit an afro

  • I've never seen this before, thank you very much for uploading

  • real boxe.

  • sugar is so quiick]

  • Hello Audience,i personally dont know why most people right off Ray Leonard mostly against Hagler & tommy.Luk,4get abt sentiment.Ray deserved d winning,& was given, thnx 2 d presiding judges.Hagler is VERY strong in that class....& expected to knock him is hardly impossible.Definitely,u need 2 apply what it's takes 2 take d bet.U av 2 b tactical, dudging, fast enough,& must not allow him 2 caught u any corner...& dats what Ray did.LEONARD....U re superb in ur class & realized by dos who knows

  • Dude c'mon man what the heck are U talking about Ray was the draw during the 80's. As great as Duran, Hearns, Hagler were the biggest paydays they ever got was against Leonard. Everything else you say is pure speculation but hey everybody is entitled to their opinion.

In case you forgot he beat all three of them.

  • i wouldnt call that gift decision over Hagler a win. A real win, even one by decision, is when there is no doubt over the outcome like say, Norris-srl. Split decisions might be okay for all you Ray leonard fans becuz everyone know that leonard fans will not hesitate to lower the bar for him.

and keep in mind that Duran, Hearns, and even that old slab of meat barely functioning named hagler likewise provided Ray with his biggest payday. Cant make much of a living fighting Don lalonde

  • Actually all of them made their biggest paydays against Ray Leonard. Next to Mike Tyson, Leonard was the biggest draw in the 80's.

  • without the fans where would leonard be? i think the fans deserved better than Leonard-Lalonde or Uno Mas for the kind obscene money he was getting.

i would gladly pay more to see Arturo Gatti fight than a showboating rabbit. he really offends me as a boxing fan.

Tyson was okay with me because he came to fight and was full of surprises

  • With the fans, where would Delahoya, Tyson, Ali, and Robinson be?? That's not much of an arguement. Leonard was a huge box office draw, and he faught the best fighters of his era. He always came to fight, he was a chess player, a warrior, and a genius in the ring. Anybody who knows boxing, should give Leonard the respect he deserves.

    Tyson was overrated.

  • so? "he came to fight"? Do you call what he did in UNO MAS, fighting?

it was a disgusting performance along with the mugging and clowning. That's why he got booed all night, remember?

Maybe we should all give him respect for waving his arms in the air and sticking his chin out and dissing his opponent?

Just as disgusting was the perfomance vs Norris. Hey, I came to watch a fight! I guess chess playing doesnt amount to much when your opponent has the kind of reflexes Norris has!

  • We should give Leonard credit for proving to be all time great, beating the best in his era, becoming a huge box office draw, and always coming to fight.

  • you mean always coming to run. No thank you, I dont appreciate runners. I prefer those who come to fight like Hagler.

And ray didnt beat the best of his era. he didnt fight Hagler until way too late. Watching Leonard-Hagler '87 is like dating the hottest girl in high school at the age of 45-no one cares except his fans who love lowering the bar for him

  • He didn't run against Hearns, he didn't run against Lalonde, and he didn't run against Hagler. He boxed, and always used the ring to his advantage, but he never ran. It's called boxing. Any real boxing fan would know the difference.

And Ray did beat the best of his era. He beat Hearns, he beat Duran, and he beat Hagler. That is in fact, the best of his era. Pay attention to the facts.

  • Dude, Piglatinsuperstar has been obsessed on dissing Leonard on every SRL youtube vid. 1st this guy knows nothing about boxing, he contradicts himself all the time, stating that he fought an "over the hill" Duran and Duran still killed him, yet when he mentions his hero, Terry Norris, he completely destroyed Leonard with no regard that he was at the end of his career and came down 22lbs. he doesn't know what he is talking about. Duran vs Leonard was a close and classic brawl, i was there.

  • Yeah, he does seem to come off as an idiot. But not everybody can love Leonard. Now an intelligent and educated person on boxing can acknowledge the greatness and impact that Leonard had on boxing.

  • Leonard also knocked out Wilfredo Benitez, who is another all time great.

  • you dont think that's a little out of line? Leonard tko ing Wilfred? Wil looked in good dhape to me and everyone who's had the misfortune of watching this bore snore has agreed the stoppage was as legit as leonard's two titles at 168, 175

I also fail to see how Wilfred qualifies as an atg. He didnt do anything with his title. one defense and that was it. to me, an atg would be Terry Norris who knows how to win and set records and beat the daylights out of people the way he did with leonard

  • Leonard did knock out Wilfredo. That is based on fact, not an opinion. Wilfredo was an all time great. He did things in the ring that no other fighter could ever. He can knock out a fighter, while laying on the ropes. No other fighter can do that to this day. He had a flawless defense, and knew how to duck and slip punches. He even made Leonard miss most of his punches until the latter rounds.

If you think Wilfredo isn't an all time great, then you don't know anything about boxing.

  • that's just be "he did things that no other fighter ever could". The fight itself was so boring I never bothered to watch another round of it again. the truth of it is all they did was look at each other. If anything, it was the most boring exhibition of the last 30 years. Benitez had no will to win and the ref literally GAVE srl a gift stoppage.

anyone that's seen it tho will tell you it was a bullshit stoppage. never mind the bogus decision to stop it; Why should we be impressed?

  • The fight was actually technically brilliant. Benitez proved his greatness in that fight, but he simply couldn't beat the legendary Ray Leonard. The stoppage wasn't bullshit at all, and Benitez didn't complain at all. He was hurt badly.

Stop trying to diss Leonard. Give credit where credit is due.

  • Benitez hurt? I'm no fan of Wilfred but the only fight he got hurt in was the Hilton fight.

"technically brilliant" is just a way of putting a nice shine on a boring fight. Even his "knockout" over hitman wasn't impressive. It wasn't the kind of bullshit stoppage srl-benitez was, but neither was it on the destructive level of Pryor-Arguello or Hagler-Hearns where the fur was flying.

srl just isn't on the level of the other greats like Norris, Jones, Hagler, Pryor, Arguello, & those types

  • The fight wasn't boring at all. You just have a short attention span. And claiming that Benitez wasn't hurt is purely idiotic.

All you want to do is put down Ray Leonard, and not give him any credibility. You're an idiot.

  • how come no one talks about the fight then? Because it isnt on the level of Hagler-Hearns. Nobody is interested in watching 15 rounds with two little boys staring at each other. That in essence was the whole fight.

I enjoy watching the GOOD fighters like Norris, Jackson, Hagler, Jones, Arguello, Pryor, Holmes, Spinks, Holmes, Bowe, Camacho, Nunn, Saad Muhammad, etc.

People like Benitez and Leonard dont interest or impress me at all

  • Everybody talks about that fight. Apparently, you don't. You're just another idiotic Ray Leonard hater. The fact that you don't achknowledge his greatness as a fighter, proves that you know nothing about boxing.

  • NOBODY talks about this fight!!!

how can you even call it a fight? It's a staring match between two little boys. You're just trying to make it into something it isn't. The whole fight was bogus and one in which I discount as a genuine fight much like the stoppage. Nobody takes it serious

  • Actually it was considered to be a great technical fight. And Leonard proved his greatness by beating another all time great.

Look dude, you're an idiot. You're just another Ray Leonard hater, and you don't know any about boxing.

  • you have no respect for boxers, only for your opinion, which is what makes you a coward. How dare you call Hagler an "old slab of meat". You are worse than the media, you are without courage, because you do not give respect where respect is due.

  • Based on what I saw of him in sparring, Hagler was a shell of himself and should have been retired. At the time even Bob Arum was saying he might actually lose for the first time. But the media never reports negative things like that to make srl's accomplishment stand out all the more

  • Actually Hagler was still in top form, and was very capable of knocking out Leonard. It didn't happen, because of Leonard's flawless boxing skills, speed, and agility.

  • Im sorry but I will disagree with the Sugar Ray win over Hagler. Every time I score the fight I give it to hagler by split decsion, but as you said everybody is entitled to their own opinion. Take Care.

  • too right -

  • Do you think Angie Dundee would have took Ray on if he didn't think he was a special talent?

I believe most of the fight decisions were made by Mike Trainer and Dundee.....made him rich and kept most of his brains intact.

  • Dundee took on lots of fighters regardless of talent level-Willie Pastrano, Steve Gregory. Ray was no exception. His Ali like looks, his gold medal, I wouldve taken him and protected him the same way-- trying to maximize the paydays while minimizing the risks. It dont make him special tho. I think special fighters like Hagler, Roy Jones, Ali, Robinson are the types that can face whoever they want and expect to win no matter the conditions. No handicapping of the opponent was necessary

  • who the fuck are you moron expose yourself and tell us who you are or better still what is your msn and lets get to the facts who you are !! you know fuck all about boxing i forgot more than you will ever know lol

  • So you penalize the man for being smart? The lighter weights hadn't seen a figther with his charisma since Robinson.

  • what charisma? I'd say intelligent yes but so was Meldrick Taylor. A nice smile maybe but hardly the charisma of Ali

  • take n o notice of him he has a biiter jealousy of everything leonard has done !!!

  • Sugar Ray filled that gap when Ali left. He was a pocket size Ali and trained by the GREAT Angie Dundee. Ray was great.Beautiful movement.

  • and what 's wrong with that?

    Ali copied Sugar Ray Robinson

  • Ali copied Robbi only in flash. Both Robbie & Ali were originals. Leonard tho tried to emulate Ali's entire CAREER! I felt like telling him "go get your OWN show!"

Robinson had MANY more times the # fights lenny had. The two dont even compare in my eyes. lenny isnt even worthy of mention in the same breath.

To most of us he's just a cute guy with a cute smile. Fought alot of old guys. Fell apart when he couldnt get a fight with anyone under 30, 7-up commerciala, that kind of thing.

  • I agree with you, though I think you are taking it too seriosly. It is proffesional sport = show. We need the one who makes better show, that's why judges gave SRL victory over Hugler. These were the rules of the game at least in 80's, and SRL was defintely good in it. However, I agree with you, and admire people like Duran and Hugler more than SRL.

  • Nikolay116 you have to agree Leonard kept taking easy fights. the Hagler fight itself was waaaaaayy to late. And what was he doing fighting lalonde when he wasnt even supposed to be fighting? His eye, remember?

I mean, why waste people's time with lalonde. everyone already knows he's going to beat Donny. That's why the skepticsm. Fight Nunn, fight McCallum, fight Jackson, fight Norris...oops! He DID fight Norris. Sorry people, didnt mean to hit a nerve!

  • Lol Ive been away for 24 hours from this thread,,and you have already posted more than 20 biased hate threads.

  • that's all? I thought I would've had more the way I been going

  • trained as i tough?? becasue srl didnt lean his style or boxing skill from AD.. he learnt it as a kid.. like all boxers do. pro trainers get to much credit

  • Easy win

  • The amateur rules suck so fucking bad. What, if someone lands a clean shot you get a standing 8 count? Pathetic.

  • I landed a hit to the FOREHEAD,which also is protected by the helmet.the guy wiggled a bit and I thought:"Let's pick up the haste here!"

before i could even think about hitting again, the fucking referee just stopped the match! No standing 8,No towel thrown in and my oppondent was fine..Both of us protested, but aparantly, the number 1 guideline for ref's is:

AVOID ALL SITUATIONS THAT CAN END IN A KO.

Theres just no risks in boxing anymore... The whole point-system is fucked up, ref's sucks ass

  • obvs the reff was a fucking moron.. the reson they dont let fighters get knocked out is casue they want boxing to stay alive.. in the pussy PC world we live in today every olypics people are trying to get rid of boxing.. BOXING OUT OF THE OLYPICS.. boxing is the fucking olypics

ps i am a active amature boxer aslo

  • only in the ametures, in the pros its not as bad, but ya, srl had speed swiftness, style and picked his shots well.

  • lol at 1:30 you could see Suger just snap

  • grat vid thanx for the post m8

  • wen ray beat hagler i was upset. ray was supposed to drop. thats wat i believe

  • so you believe it was a fixed a fight ???

  • hahah i knew somebody was gonna say sumin, i was ready. No i dont think it was a fix fight. it was just that ray was quite smart in every way. he waited till hagler got old. hagler unbeaten for 10 years, and then comes along ray saying "ILL FIGHT HIM IF HE WANTS TO FIGHT ME" PERSONALLY THATS PATHETIC BECAUSE WE ALL KNOW HAGLER WILL FIGHT. RAY WAS YOUNGR "STILL HAD IT" HAGLER OLD AND I THINK HE DIDNT GIVE A SHIT ABOUT THE FIGHT. HE WASNT THE SAME. amn was heart broken.

  • sugar ray back in the day! great footage. thx

  • More Sugar Ray coming up. Covered him til he went pro! Thanks for the comment.

  • ..despite Ray's kinda viewed as having a head start over others...bigger purses, endorsements etc. He came from humble beginnings and how ANYONE can say that Ray wasn't great and/or for real isn't in the real world or shouldn't be commenting on this board. Sometimes I didn't like myself him but Ray was for real. In his prime he took out some very impressive guys to say the least and was a very smart BOXER and certainly no sissy.

  • Say that to piglatinsuperstar, if you have heard about him.

  • That's right, he's right here. Go on, tell him!
