i never read the book. But i love this movie. The cinematography was superb. I was immediately dropped into Thailand with a feeling a backpacker exploring total freedom. To me its a feel good type of movie, It leaves you off with the sense that life is precious, enjoy it and explore it while we can. The world is beautiful, if only we can see pass the ugly.

I've read the book and watched the film, and I love both of them.

What I would say is the book is a little more "screwed up" than the film. The book is a lot more about about drugs, and Richard gets more screwed up in the book.

Not because it had a bad storyline... but because I expected something else. I also found it very insulting towards the thai. But heeey- thats just my opinion and I still have yet to watch the movie

This was a good movie.The scenery was so good in the film that I traveled to Thailand in 2004 and again in 2006 with my best friend.I fell in love with Thailand. I watched this movie with another friend last year and she went to Thailand recently. In short this movie influenced my life like no other.
