Hey Gata just seen your vid ,your having fun in the motherland. The landscape is just BEAUTIFUL!!! Wish I was there too :( and U still lookin lovely as usual :)
Nice video & glad you had a pleasant trip. You went to school in Nigeria, so you have a strong idea about the country. You mentioned something that caught my attention, you said women don't have rights in Nigeria. If you can, please kindly elaborate. Also, are you a avid American feminist? Most Western feminists like Oprah will hate countries like Nigeria. The U.S is more of a matriarchal society while Nigeria is more of a patriarchal society. My opinions, do you agree?
@forevah I am not a feminist, but my perspective is very woman-oriented. I also do not believe the U.S. or any other society on earth is matriarchal. I say Nigerian women don't have rights in regards to the millions of poor women who are raped and do not receive justice or protection, and are often even raped by the police whom they report to. The only reason why I was not sexually abused in Nigeria is because I have class privilege.
@GataAgressiva411 Anybody on earth that has morals, good ethics and values would agree with you against the issue of rape. You said it yourself, POOR WOMEN. This is a universal problem and not a Nigerian problem. I can find these problems in poor neighborhoods and trailer parks in the US or any Western country where domestic violence is rife. US policemen take advantage of their position to rape women who broke the law to cancel their offence. etc. Their are many other examples. Cont...
Nigeria is still a poor country and the law enforcers are poorly paid and equipped to do the right thing. Its not an excuse, its an unfortunate situation these poor women find themselves in. I don't have the stats to back it up, but I know rape or sexual molestation is tackled hard in Nigeria regardless of status. Forgive my assumptions about you being a feminist. Some are very ignorant and assume women in Nigeria aren't allowed to work or have a high status..
@forevah Oh yeah, Nigerian women can definitely occupy higher statuses. Men typically tend to get taken more seriously, but that goes for all countries. Honestly though I don't appreciate the dating culture there, where most men think it's OK to cheat or have multiple girlfriends. That as well happens everywhere, but the difference is that it's accepted in Nigeria.
Yes, you are right. It is kind of accepted in Nigeria because the laws allows it. As you know, polygamy is very legal in Nigeria. In the West, the laws are very clear and specific. Polygamy is illegal so as infidelity. In the West if a divorce occurs, the child/children automatically goes to the mother most times depending on the court's decision. In Nigeria, the opposite is true. The kid(s) automatically goes to the father according to the law. Cultural differences!!
I'm so jealous. I've been wanting to visit Nigeria for some time now (Lagos & Abuja specifically). What other places have been? Do you have a favorite?
@GGLebo23 I went to school in Anambra state for some time and lived in Enugu. I have visited Abia and Port Harcourt. My favorite is Abuja because it's safer, quieter, and there's plenty to do.
@GataAgressiva411 So nice. I've heard that Abuja was super expensive to live in though, at least for the Nigerian people. That's where most of the oil money from the Niger Delta gets spent. Abuja looks really nice, but I think for the ppl who live on the Delta the oil has been a curse. Heres a documentary if ur interested. I swear I got SO mad when watching. Shell oil is evil & Nigerian politicians are too damn corrupt.
@GGLebo23 well Abuja looks really nice because it is the new capital of Nigeria and most politicians live there, so they have to make it look nice for themselves and each other. Abuja is unreasonably expensive, because it is Abuja and much of the clientele take pride in paying through the nose for any luxury they want. I know about the Delta-it's terrible. There's a lot of kidnapping in Nigeria at the moment-I personally know plenty of victims.
@FetketBC I have lived and schooled in Nigeria and it is a beautiful place. I love to visit. However I would not live there again because as a woman, I do not have rights.
Thats zuma rock the name of the river skips my mind, nice place, good people, sexy women, great night life although I did have to be a little careful at night.
I know where that rock is...Im parents have friends that live 3 or 4 minutes away from that rock. You know whats beautiful? The national mosque, also in Abuja. Im sure you passed it more than a few times.
