@michaalann Yes, you can watch TV with the PX5 headset. The PX5 transmitter has optical in and out ports that'll pass the audio through to your receiver.
So, console audio to TV. TV optical audio "OUT" to optical "IN" of PX5 transmitter. PX5 audio optical "OUT" to receiver.
Now ANY audio coming out of your TV you'll be able to hear either through the PX5 headset, your receiver, or both.
Alright, I just got mine in the mail and have ran into the same lag issue due to my wireless connection. Any suggestions on how to fix that rather than moving my pc across the house next to my xbox?
A good review, but I'd differ about the alleged sound neutrality, the PX5 sound highly brightened to me. For neutral sound though, for music listening I have Senn HD 25 II and AKG IP2, don't need it from a headset.
Cont). The Xbox is not Bluetooth so, it's tough to get rid of that annoying chat wire (wireless not). PS3 is obviously better with Bluetooth and other devices. For 10$ u can make and BT headset receive a signal from anything with a 3.5 connector. (Like a TV or non BT PC) They purposely don't make a perfect headset so u look forward to the PX6 or whatever model. There would be no need to ever buy another. Go DSS with a PX3!!!
You don't need 15 min on this...but great thorough review. I have and will take the PX3 over any Turtle beach headset (and I've used them all) It is rechargeable, has a better mic extension and doesn't have that clunky huge mic stand. (although I have to hang my headset on my plugs on the wall) For any wireless headset there is crap load of wires! Wonder about battery recharge life after a year? Hmm...maybe that's why?
@xJH33NZx If your T.V. has a TOSlink, or optical cable, plug in the T.V. itself, you can do it. I have the old 360 which I run through HDMI, so I just plug the decoder box into my T.V.
what do you mean u had no problems when you hard connected << to your router ???? .... i am connected to my router from my ps3 by a wire that wouldnt cause troubles for me right ???
@K1DARKSTAR89 You can use a hard line, or if your router has a auto choose option select that. Worse case if you dont want to use a hard line is to go and pick up a router with a dual channel capability. Wireless N and Wireless N, many netgear router have the dual band capability.
@K1DARKSTAR89 I forgot to say by auto select option i mean the router does an auto select on the channel that it is using. typically channel 1 through 11
I have the GOW Trittons...not the 7.1 ones..just stereo...i have been thinking so hard and watching countless reviews... Im still not sure what to get i do like the look Of Trittons but noticed people complaining of buzzs etc, i like deep Bass and sweet surround sound, i can't play stuff out loud due to my mrs, so want a bad ass pair of headphones! PX5s do look good...
These suck I had them for a week and I couldn't handle the 2.4 frequency interruptions so I bought astro a30's wireless system and they sound and work way better
I wish they had a wireless model that didn't have the bluetooth and the rest of the fancy stuff, but ran on the 5.8 frequency. I'm leaning more towards astros.
I suppose you can use this baby with a PC as well.
You can output from your PC via Line Out (and plug into line in on the back of the PX5) or S/PDIF Optical Out (If your motherboard has it, and plug Into optical input on the back of the PX5).
Issue here is, you may not get full Dolby Surround out of your computer's S/PDIF. I guess this might be dependent on the computer's sound chip/drivers.
Disappointed AVRCP Bluetooth Profile for track control is absent...
Ah! Either this or the PX3. I know the PX5 is better but I don't know if I want to spend an extra 100 dollars on a headset. I love gaming just not super serious about it. I just don't know lol
all you have to do is move the decoder box at least 5 feet from your xbox and/or ps3 that way it won't cause inference i have pas and used this method it irks perfectly
*****need help!!! i want to buy these but i live in a apartment and i would like to know if anyone has had bad experiences with the transmiter since it runs o n 2.4 GHz?? if anyone can answer me asap i would really appreciate it thanks
@XArticRageX almost everybody's wireless is 2.4 Ghz but if u play close or in the same room of your wireless router then there will be a problem.. other wise no. hope this helped :)
i am looking for a headset for ps3 online gaming (COD mainly) and i just have one question. is it the best out there or do you know an other headset to recommend?
I really enjoyed your review. I wonder if you could help me with certain set-ups for the px5. can you make a video for the phone pairing and watching movies and i can only here chat when i play black ops there is no game music or gun fire why am i having setup issues
Turtle beaches are a very risky gamble. They break a lot. Go look on game forums and see all the posts about people asking how to fix them. I bought PX5's, and they came broken. I couldn't hear any sound. So I got myself a pair of tritons. Problem solved!
@TroopAirsoft I threw my ax720's away, the audio quality is garbage, i went to wal-mart and bought the only turtle beach headset they had at the time, x31's.... and its 40x better, Tritons are a waste. I'm getting the XP500's.
i dont trust turtle beaches at all i bought 2 of them not ps5's but they broke easily wires they use are horrible and cheap. go with astros but get the A40's
had ax pro they broke in a week dont buy them the pins break off ! Just ordered these and got express local shipping so I'll have them today awesomeeee
@KeygenOSCracker If you are strictly concerned about audio quality then that may be true. I only recommend the PX5s because they are completely wireless. Also, they are compatible with my 360, PS3, iPhone and MacBook. When I want to switch between consoles, I just press one button. Streaming iPhone music over gameplay is one button and being able to use them for web browsing is very convenient.
man it seems packed out with plenty of stuff but the whole point is good sound etc but you said it interfears with connection fuck that and too many buttons 4 my liking iv had a xbox wireless controller and at 2 or 3am the batteries ran out which pissed me off and that price tag NOOO WAY im sticking with my px21 yeah theres a long cable but at least i wont be spending money on batteries and i never have to charge my mic plus they gone down alot in price
@RuGZiLaH Hey man. While i dont have PX5's, but ive got to tell you, my astros are being repaired. theres a screw taht apparently commonly comes off the headset. mine popped off pretty agressively, so wires were damaged ect. im using x41's right now, and if these 5's are the same or better than the 41's in quality, you wont have a quality issue. sound is good too. The astros were amazing when i was using them however dont get me wrong. Get the 5's. astro if you arent happy.
@RuGZiLaH Shit, I meant astros, and get the 5's if you arent happy. the particular screw that popped off is found on the top headband piece, just keep an eye on the screws and tighten them once in a while if needed.
Okay. My friend just got these and I have the Astro a40s. Ever since he got them he keeps gloating about how he has the "best headset one the market." He brought them over and I felt like it was feature-rich, but the sound was poorer than a40s. He doesn't believe me at all. So which do you think is better overall? Did anybody else get time for both?
Awesome review. But I have ax 720 tritons alittle beat up . jacked up mic n cushions would it be worth it switching to px5's ? And on the tritons the sound is just f***ed up due to wire damage. It's livable though so should I ?
It was down to the ax pro 5.1, a40 wireless, and the px5. After all the research, just ordered the px5 through amazon for $212, free shipping no taxes. This will be my first gaming headset, hopefully I wont be disappointed.
Awesome review! Would love to own a pair if it weren't for the $249.99 price tag, you figure for that much money any flaws this headset might have would be iron out.
I have had to buy 3 headsets because of freyed/ tangled wires since I play ab. 3 feet from my TV/ PS3. I am between the PX5's and the Astros. At first, I was leaning towards these, since they don't have any wires at all. I like the ability to answer calls/ listen to music with the PX5s, but am worried about the 2.4 GhZ frequency. My router is NOT in the room with me, and my computer is not usually on while I'm playing. Would I still get interference?
Can you use this for skype? I cant find a video saying if you can, and when i try to use the usb cord to the px5 then to the laptop, it doesnt work. Any help?
@xSwooPDatsMee You would need bluetooth capability on your computer. You can pick up a USB adapter that emits bluetooth at any retail store for 20 bucks or so.
@MLGSteggy hey bud, would you recommend the px5's as i have a wireless router, cordless phone , ps3 , all in my room, would i notice static? Other option is the astro a40 wireless. Because you have first hand experience would you be able to tell me how much sound difference between astro wireless vs wired? money isn't a issue for me but sound quality is, i just play fps games and need directional sound for footsteps,
@MLGSteggy Thank you so much for the answer Steggy. I was looking all over for an answer as well and I'm glad you answered it. I already bought my BT USB Adapter so I'm looking forward to chatting with my friend on skype and play PS3 at the same time! ^_^
Would you say that these sound better than X11's with the DSS? I already own a pair of X11's and have no problem with the cable, so do the extra features on this such as wireless and the bluetooth truly justify that extra 100 dollars on the price tag compared to the X11+DSS package?
@SoleEpiphany Maybe. Or maybe just a product spotlight, since from the reading it looks like a PX5 with green trim to signify its use for xbox 360, think of the siberia v2 for the ps3. same headset, but already included ps3 adapter for it.
@SoleEpiphany If you'd like to keep an eye out on my channel, I should have a decent unboxing and review up shortly after the headset comes out. I'll also include a comparison with the Astro A40 2011 edition.
@danielampudia Trent and I are buddies, and I actually helped him with his format of kicking the intro off on screen, going into the clips of the product during the body of the review, and returning on screen for the conclusion. It's a pretty standard format actually.
I play on a wireless connection. And was thinking of getting this headset. Do you think it would be worth just testing it out to see if I have audio problems or should I just move on ad get a different headset.
Luckily it's available in stores, I would suggest checking out some place like Best Buy and seeing what their return policy is so you can do a dry run so to speak
Dude idk why people don't make 5.0ghz stuff. so much better, no phones, printers, routers, on it. comps with dual broadband network adapter work much better with a 5.0 card, i would bet that headsets would work better too!
I'll stick with my Astro Mixamp 5.8. What's nice about it is the ability to use just about any headphones with it and still get the surround capabilities. Optional rechargeable battery and 5.8 ghz band makes for no pops and great sound. I use mine with the Audio Tech AD700 or A700 depending on what I'm doing. Total price for my setup was 200 bucks.
@MLGSteggy thank you for making this review I've been dying for it. But lemme ask-as an MLG Black Ops player which of the big three headsets(px5, axpro, a40) is most USEFUL? Nothing to do with durability or anything simply on the basis of hearing and locating sounds of reloading, climbing, and planting(everyone uses ninja so footsteps are useless) Also this is assuming that I am using the best presets on the px5 for this purpose. Please respond and thank you in advance :)
@villafootball94 Comparing the PX5 and A40 is very hard to do, because they both cater to 2 different crowds. Considering you're into MLG, wireless is probably not what you'd want to go with. The A40 is usable at MLG events while the PX5 is not. They are both very good headsets, and the presets that I liked the most on the PX5 were ones that would make it sound like the A40 haha.

He brought them over and I felt like it was feature-rich, but the sound was poorer than a40s.

@DEADLYBEAR23 how about xp500, completeley wireless
Blacksta13 7 months ago
It was down to the ax pro 5.1, a40 wireless, and the px5. After all the research, just ordered the px5 through amazon for $212, free shipping no taxes. This will be my first gaming headset, hopefully I wont be disappointed.
poeboy037 8 months ago
@poeboy037 if it's ur 1st headset... i'm sure u won't be disappointed.out of the options i'd say a40's are the best IMO

Awesome review! Would love to own a pair if it weren't for the $249.99 price tag, you figure for that much money any flaws this headset might have would be iron out.

@RuinedLemon I have them :) I am buying A40's soon though, because my boom mic connection didn't work so I have to send it in.

IIlIQuANTuMllIl 8 months ago
stupid 2.4ghz is the only thing stopping me from buying it

If you don't own this, wait for the tritton wireless as it will kick this headset right in the butthole.

Hey Steggy - do you ever see Astros going fully wireless via BlueTooth just like the PX5?

So Steggy do you think it can compete with Astros?

Can you use this for skype? I cant find a video saying if you can, and when i try to use the usb cord to the px5 then to the laptop, it doesnt work. Any help?
xSwooPDatsMee 8 months ago
@xSwooPDatsMee You would need bluetooth capability on your computer. You can pick up a USB adapter that emits bluetooth at any retail store for 20 bucks or so.
MLGSteggy 8 months ago
@MLGSteggy hey bud, would you recommend the px5's as i have a wireless router, cordless phone , ps3 , all in my room, would i notice static? Other option is the astro a40 wireless. Because you have first hand experience would you be able to tell me how much sound difference between astro wireless vs wired? money isn't a issue for me but sound quality is, i just play fps games and need directional sound for footsteps,
sct911 8 months ago
@MLGSteggy STEGGY!!!!!!!!! you just need to reply with one word, which do you rather prefer, the px5's or 2011 astro a40 wireless bundle?
sct911 8 months ago
@MLGSteggy Thank you so much for the answer Steggy. I was looking all over for an answer as well and I'm glad you answered it. I already bought my BT USB Adapter so I'm looking forward to chatting with my friend on skype and play PS3 at the same time! ^_^
SSkeyblademaster 6 months ago
Would you say that these sound better than X11's with the DSS? I already own a pair of X11's and have no problem with the cable, so do the extra features on this such as wireless and the bluetooth truly justify that extra 100 dollars on the price tag compared to the X11+DSS package?
mikeyfasheezy 8 months ago
The XP500 seems to have that bluetooth adapter included at a price of $269.99. It also seems to be rechargeable, any chance of a review?
SoleEpiphany 8 months ago
@SoleEpiphany Maybe. Or maybe just a product spotlight, since from the reading it looks like a PX5 with green trim to signify its use for xbox 360, think of the siberia v2 for the ps3. same headset, but already included ps3 adapter for it.
MLGSteggy 8 months ago
@MLGSteggy Is the XP500 rechargeable or is it just the same as the PX5 besides the bundled xba adapter
BapeGangsta 8 months ago
@SoleEpiphany If you'd like to keep an eye out on my channel, I should have a decent unboxing and review up shortly after the headset comes out. I'll also include a comparison with the Astro A40 2011 edition.

i see you've learned a few things from aka TRENT. Try to find your own way of doing things thou; i like your reviews, keep up the good work.
danielampudia 8 months ago
@danielampudia Trent and I are buddies, and I actually helped him with his format of kicking the intro off on screen, going into the clips of the product during the body of the review, and returning on screen for the conclusion. It's a pretty standard format actually.

I play on a wireless connection. And was thinking of getting this headset. Do you think it would be worth just testing it out to see if I have audio problems or should I just move on ad get a different headset.

Luckily it's available in stores, I would suggest checking out some place like Best Buy and seeing what their return policy is so you can do a dry run so to speak

Dude idk why people don't make 5.0ghz stuff. so much better, no phones, printers, routers, on it. comps with dual broadband network adapter work much better with a 5.0 card, i would bet that headsets would work better too!
tenordrummercj 8 months ago

Please respond and thank you in advance :)
villafootball94 8 months ago
@villafootball94 Comparing the PX5 and A40 is very hard to do, because they both cater to 2 different crowds. Considering you're into MLG, wireless is probably not what you'd want to go with. The A40 is usable at MLG events while the PX5 is not. They are both very good headsets, and the presets that I liked the most on the PX5 were ones that would make it sound like the A40 haha.
