If you search "stagecoach (1939) black and white" the first answer on the search is the full movie in black and white. (Not that I'm not grateful for the upload but the black and white is better)
@thejustnosy Actually the Uploads you mention that comes up is from youtube user JohnWayneTV. That is my other youtube channel. And I uploaded both the Black and White version and the Colorized version on that channel. But yes, I agree that the restored Black and White version is superior to the colorized version.
Colorized movies are such shit. "The audience prefers color", was, I think, the argument at the time. Well, a stupid audience. And I hate pandering to the stupid.
As much as most people hate to hear it, there is a profound allegory at the heart of this movie, of Jesus and his fallen bride. It is a really beautiful look at true goodness.
the colorising messes up the lighting of the original black and white movie. These craftsmen were masters at that, all of which is lost in this silly colorised print.
Man the colour is gross (I'm not a fan of colourizing older movies anyway), but thank you so much for posting! Better uploaded in colour than not uploaded at all.
@bobszvetics1 Yes it was colorized back in the 1980's. The black & white version was later digitally restored and is now looks really good. But the colorized version was done from the old black and white version before it was restored.
If you go to Lordsburg and drive to Bisbee you will pass the Geronimo Surrender Marker (next to highway). Directly west of the marker (not near the highway)is Apache Pass and Ft. Bowie (neat place) The Butterfield then went from Bisbee to Tucson, Yuma and Ocotillo on I-8 (west of El Centro) then Warner Springs (there is a stage coach station near Ocotlo -a state park) .. then to Temecula and San Bernardino (the train ended! until engines could go to Cajon Pass)
thank you so much for this me and my late grandfather watched a "special" showing of this in color in the early 90s on cbs or nbc or similar and i always remembered thanks again
Well, i'm not a purist i reckon...i've always enjoyed the old films a little more after they've added a little color, but to each his own! Thanks for this addition to YouTube!
Claire Trevor is very lovely indeed. She is AWESOME I love her movies so much. They are so hard to find. I have found quite a few though at lovingtheclassics I just googled lovingtheclassics after reading about them on another youtube classic (i think it was alan ladd)
O. M. G. you are a lifesaver!! i'm a BIG procrastinator and i should've been done this, but i needed to watch this movie for my Westerns class. it's due tomorrow & i had spring break last week, and wasn't thinkin about any movie. and i don't wanna rush back to campus to watch a screening w/ my class. youtube was my last resort, and you just made my day! :D
I don't like the colorized version too much. The movie makes use of shadows alot (especially later) and the silihouets at the begining are totally ruined because of the color makes them less dramatic.
Oh well, it doesn't completley ruin the movie, just a picky thing I thought I'd point out.
ford was so depressed he was born an American and wished he was born in Ireland. That said, he did a mighty service to the land of ireland with his positive view of the irish in america.
I watched this for Film Studies @ Univ. of Oregon in 1972....best class I ever took! The B/W version is much better and more authentic! Thanks for psoting anyways!
I love all the wild west movies, especially when I was a kid. this was by far one of my very favorite... 22yrs old in college full time and still get my girlfriends to watch it!
A great movie, music lasts in my memory for a long time.
Found the setting at Monument Valley very well chosen, for people in Europe this is still the classic Wild West scenery. The scene where Wayne is getting more intimate with the socalled fallen woman (prostitute???) i found also impressive, all the people on the coach are not entirely clean of human sins, still they wish to ignore the woman because of her sins!
Wayne takes a proper stand and starts protecting the woman, very nice!
To (LittleMissMitsy19) This is the original Stagecoach movie from 1939. Except it was originally made in Black and White and Color has been added to it. There have been 2 remakes of StageCoach. .One in the 1960's and one in the 1980's. But the one I uploaded is by far the most famous version. Your teacher probably doesn't know there is a colorized version of the movie. Anyways I hope this helps.

Ted Turner wanted to colorized Citizen Kane. Orson Welles said tell Mr. Turner and his goddamn crayolas to stay away from my film, I paraphrase.

Why would they ever colorize this???!
It's a masterpiece in black and white, and the colorization just makes it look old and crappy.
Thanks for uploading anyway, though.

I agree really, but I think if it was properly restored THEN colorized with more advanced equipment it would look brand new...
