Elizabeth sure did cash in after this. I am suspicious because she waited 7 years to claim she was raped daily by her abductor. Hmmm, yet when they found her, she was simply wandering around freely and didn't say a word about rape. Honestly, it sounds to me like Elizabeth ran away with this religious cult and when she was found, she changed her mind because of the media. Then later on, someone asked her to jazz up the story by claiming she was raped to rake in the big bucks, and that she is.

Anyone who's into blaming the victim, needs help. The media had the gall to ask Mormon Church leaders what Elizabeth Smart's standing was with the Church. It was very healing, though, to all sexual assault victims, to hear that the First Presidency said that Elizabeth is not guilty of anything, and that she's pure and clean as far as the church is concerned. She's now a beautiful missionary.

She didn't wait 7 years, she told the police & her family 7 years ago. Also, sexual assault charges were brought against her captors on March 18, 2003. The fact that she was raped was made public in March 2003. There has been a gag order on the Smart case since 2003.

In Smart's case there was an eyewitness to the kidnapping, & the cops & the FBI found proof that she'd been kidnapped & held against her will. So it makes no sense that people would still think she ran away when all the evidence points-& has always pointed-to her being a bona fide kidnap/rape victim & nothing more. I think it has to do with peoples' beliefs about teens-that they're all troublemakers or some dumb thing

Why don't all battered husbands leave their wives? Why do 80% of rapes in the U.S. go unreported? People are abused in nursing homes. Why don't they tell someone or leave if they're able to? For anyone who questions this kidnapping case, think about this:why don't all kidnap victims try to escape? Not all of them do. I can name several kidnap victims who were too damn scared to try. Since the place they were staying at was a homeless community they did not have access to a tv, therefore they did not know they'd been portrayed on "America's Most Wanted". While in California Mitchell tried to kidnap a 12 year old girl, but he failed. In February 2003 he was busted for breaking into a preschool. At his hearing he apologized, blamed demon rum, & promised never to do anything like that again. After being released he & his wife took Elizabeth back to Utah, & they were busted.

All the time Mitchell told Elizabeth that he had followers watching her family & if she tried anything she & her family would all be killed. She's not psychic, she had no idea that he was lying. In October her kidnappers took her to California, where they stayed in a homeless commune from October 2002 to March 2003. They continued to make Elizabeth wear a disguise, but there were no posters of Elizabeth there & as time went on they relaxed & sometimes they didn't wear disguises at all.

Their trips into Salt Lake City were sporadic, & they were in plain sight off & on from August 2002 to October 2002.

Yes. Richard Ricci was a con with a rap sheet a mile long who worked in the Smarts' home. He was on parole after serving a prison sentence for shooting a cop when he stole from the Smarts' & their neighbors. When Elizabeth was kidnapped, the cops found out about his arrest record & the stolen stuff & arrested him. He died in prison of a brain hemmorhage.

She reportedly asked her mom "why don't they want me?" It was suggested in the article that she was most likey still in shock & hadn't yet put her abduction in perspective.
