  • Hi Shane from Ireland here. I take my hat off to you sir, thats an excellent video, I had one of these as a kid. I was at a street party one night and put it on the ground for a minute and went to pick it up and some bastard had robbed it on me, I swear I was gutted for years! Loved it I did.

  • @mefeinster I would have been gutted too! I have to say, now I've reassembled mine, it's still cooler than xbox!

  • I just had an audiovisual orgasm. There's no other way to describe it.

  • @slikerwar Why thank you, I hope it was as good for you as it was for me!

  • This video is absolutely awsome, as was all of Tomy and Grandstand VFD games, shame when I had a go on one of these in the 80's I didn't realise it was in 3D, just stuck in a binocular case as a gimmick... I don't know how long it took you to make this but it was worth it *, love the blue grid you added, should have been in the game after completing all levels, a bonus to prove to mates you put in the hours to get it

    * this is on par with " Grandstand BMX Flyer Flash Clone", Google it :-)

  • @CrustyBiker Cheers for the comment! The blue grid was actually something I had convinced myself was part of the game and when I finally got to play as an adult I was surprised and disappointed to find it wasn't there! So I added it in! It's actually from footage I ripped from another game - Beamrider for the Atari. I liked that sequence so I superimposed it then looped it. Does the trick :)

I will google as you suggest!

  • Great video, great tune. I thought people had forgotten Sky Attack at this stage. I actually made an indie version of this game a while back but no one seemed interested at the time.

Search for "Tomytronic 3D - Sky Attack" in the TIGSource forums and you'll find it. :)

  • @dhenniga That's cool man, I love the screenshots! Unfortunately I'm running Mac OS X here so can't test the game for myself! The game looks so cool tho, it's hard to beat for style!

  • @mylifeontape That's a shame. It play exactly like the handheld unit but I didn't put a limiter on the speed increase from level to level so it can get insanely fast. I did do another game called BMX Flyer in Flash which will work on your MAC browser and it uses a similar graphic style. Search for "BMX Flyer" in the TIGSource forums again and you'll get it. :)

  • really love it. its like the ambient chipmusic bastard child of the second bad vibel and all is full of love videos by chris cunningham. high praise! plus i fucking love sky attack. i dont have any of the other tomytronic games but they all look so lame compared to this one. do more shit like this please. thanks! :)

  • @lolitaXcomplex Thank you! My friend made the music, it's actually made from distorted samples of the game noises. I dunno how he did it! And I was kinda going for the cunningham look! All shot in my bedroom mind! And I agree, the shark game was so lame compared to TRON TANKS!! Thanks for the comment!

  • I love the added special effects you inserted, however they weren't in 3D.. ? The music was good... I used to waste many an hour playing one of these games. I wonder what happened to it?? (sigh) This was one of my favorites along with another one called "La Bomb" where you have to defuse a bomb by figuring out its disarm sequence on the keypad or it goes koaboooom!

  • @xapplimatic Yeah I don't have the know how to make 3D here! Just vid effects! In fact the blue grid you see was actually ripped off of an Atari game I have as I couldn't figure out how to make it myself so I just comped them together! I have to check out La Bomb tho!

  • Posted on a 4chan nostalgia thread. See if anybody comes.

  • @jeep6242 I followed the link... and came. lawl. Is this game stereoscopic? What's with the 2 displays? This must have been before my time or something

  • @wardrich Just stared at the video... holy crap that's awesome lol

  • @wardrich yeah the original was a stereoscopic 3d game you watched through a viewfinder with one screen per eye.

  • @jeep6242 @wardrich Yeah, I tried filming through the view finder originally but it was too difficult to get a good shot, so I opened up the headset and thought it looked pretty cool anyways

  • @jeep6242 cool, thanks for that!

  • Great vid. Nostalgia plus modern coolness. Win!

  • @jeep6242 cheers! i'm glad you liked it!

  • this is so fucking awesome xD

I remember visiting this channel many, many years ago. Good times.
