I know very sad. Were you 9 or 10 when you saw this show when it aired on ABC? they re-ran this show on Cartoon network with never shown episodes as well. Did you had the Burger King stuff too?
I loved this show when it came on, I was 8. It stopped being aired and I waited desperately for it to come back. I think up until that point I didn't even understand that shows on TV could be canceled.
I was actually surprised when this show was broadcast in Australia. The Ten Network ended up showing it in a weekday morning children's timeslot. And I thought, Huh? Despite being of a mature brew, they thought of it as a children's show? No wonder it wasn't a huge success. The themes just went over the heads of its audience, because it was really meant for young adults. Talk about being colossal noobs!
wow...what a way to start off a cartoon series for kids...by having the main protagonist's entire family wiped out before his very eyes...both sad and twisted...
I know cartoons were much darker back then since they had more mature themes and subject matter.... but if what u say is true then i seriously wonder what was going on in the minds of network execs. They seriously thought adults would be interested in watching a cartoon about Washington DC and talking mice?
Do you remember HBO's Spawn? that was another awesome adult animated show but meant for HBO. I watched that when i was 15/16/17 on it's 3 seasons because i was a fan of the comics.
I remember this!! I also remember being traumatized by the death of Max's family at the hands of the exterminator. That terrible touch of reality made me a fan of the show because death in cartoons just didn't happen. It made the show unpredictable and bittersweet.
9 here and almost any 80's/early 90's kid remembers this show when it aired. Do you also remember other cool 90's adult animated shows like Spawn on HBO ( i was 15 when it first aired and watched it every friday night), Family Dog, Fish Police, The Head, Aeon Flux, The Maxx etc.? i did, i was 14 when Aeon, Head and Maxx first aired 16 years ago.
@Johnlindsey289 Hell Yeah I remember all those too cool for T.V. show when they aired. I had to get the whole dvd collection of Spawn for HBO. I used to love the Maxx and the " I'm not sure any thing I' watching in the shows real" atmosphere. I remember Liquid TV on Mtv, Bravestar , Visionaries, Sailormoon,Ronin Warriors( DOOOAAAA CHIIIIII)Cowboy bebop later, Pirates of Dark Water, Outlaw star,Tattoed Teenage Alien Fighters from Beverly Hills......I live for the cult hit shows of my youth.
Me too. I grew up on Sailor Moon when it first aired in 95 when i was 13 and had the hots for the girls including wild fantasies as a teen and watched it on Toonami and dragonball as well. I did had experience with adult animation movies in 93 with Heavy Metal, Vampire Hunter D, Rock and Rule, American Pop and Robot Carnival on TBS, remember those? Liquid TV i grew up with when i was 11 and Maxx when i was 14 with Aeon Flux and The Head.
No kidding. I had to be about twelve when I first saw this and remember being devestated within the first several minutes. My mom had a big problem with this show just from the first episode.
First time watching this. So far, I like Max and the hippie girl mouse the best. Hehe, I'm actually from Nebraska just like Max, only I lived in Lincoln and Omaha. I was almost born in Gothenburg.
I watched this show like clockwork. Charlie Alder does the voice of Jammit. There is an episode where Muggle actually cursed at Max for looking like !@#$ comming out of the microwave. I had this episode on tape but my brother erased it. One day it will be all on DVD.. (Drools)
I watched the original airing of this show in the 90's. I couldn't remember the name but wow...it's all coming back to me..this series was short lived just for the reason of time slots and an unsure demographic. Another series that should be revived for the new era. the other, Justice League..
You are 2 awesome for posting these vids of Capitol Critters! I used to have the show on videotape but the quality degraded and I had to trash the tapes :( I wish they'd bring this out on dvd. I also named two of my pet mice after Max from the show >^.^<
Aww, cute! I actually did the same thing last year LOL. I bought 2 female mice from Petco, and I named this brown one after Berkely and this black and white one mouse after Miko. Was your other mouse named after a CC character too or just Max?
Oh nobody. Just an Oscar nominated comedic character played by Sase Baron Coey! He got sued for saying a lot of insulting things, including mocking the American national anthem! He started life in a show called Ali G> The actors from england.
Oh thank you SOOO much. I've waited years for someone to upload this stuff onto the net. I was only 9 when it aired prime time in 92, and of those 7 episodes, I only was able to see maybe 3. I had no idea they aired more on cartoon network years later. The even had Burger King toys when the show first came out, which of course, I never was able to get. Can't wait till the full seasons uploaded.
I was your age too when i saw this and i too am an 80's/early 90s kid like yourself and i had the burger King toys as well and had this show taped including the CN never before seen episodes. Do you remember Fish Police, The Critic, Family Dog and HBO's Spawn as well?
OMG, that's exactly the same age I was when I saw the episodes! Because I remember I was in the first grade when I seen them. I know I remember watching the hamster one, the first episode (that came on a lot :P) and the one when Max fell in love.
Couldn't have been... ...only 7 aired on ABC in 92. The show was cancled early. In 1995 3 additional episodes would air on cartoon network, and the last 3 (total of 13) would air the following year (96) on the same channel
Unless youre speaking only of those that have been currently posted, then yeah, you did see most of then, as only 2 were aired later. I wonder what time of day CN aired this show... ...I watched CN a lot back then, and I dont remember hearing about it at all... ...not one commercial!
Hey I didn't know you watched Capitol Critters! If you'd like to see fan art I did go to devinatart & type Capitol Critters protest! Ask honestwolf about it!
the government had some influence in canceling this show. By higher power over tv broadcasting to prepare for the telecommunications act of 1996, right when MTV changed for the worst.
Good to see that someone has finally put this up on youtube. It would be awesome if they put this show on dvd. I loved this show , and never forgot about it.
You're welcome :) You ain't kidding though, it can't be that difficult to release a 13 episode series on DVD. So many other shows with less than 13 eps got released, why not this :P
because cartoons were meant to be political if you look at the definition of a cartoon. why was it canceled so quickly? The episodes insist the ideas of cocaine trafficking; exactly the time our country had that major problem(still is) the Electrical crises; ENRON! when they bought PG&E and crashed the power going to the North!
The Major changes in Gun Control Laws; that cartoons timing was right on the money since that's the time s.f. city started planning the bill to get rid of guns in their city which is now effective. Immigration: when the U.S. population was booming because of Mexican immigrants being let in, anyone have an embarrassment to roaches come to mind?
the government had some influence in canceling this show. By higher power over tv broadcasting to prepare for the telecommunications act of 1996, right when MTV changed for the worst. this political act was responsible for distortion of democracy's television, radio, news paper and soon to be internet.
Wow, I didn't realize those issues could of have something to do with the cancellation. At first I thought it was because of somebody sueing over the name "Muggle". I forgot where I've read that from though, I just remember I found it somewhere off Google.

or maybe the fact that it's too cartoon-y for adults and has humor that kids wouldn't understand meant that it wasn't very popular...? not that it's a bad show or anything, i'm just saying...
Well whaddya know... you uploaded Capitol Critters! Awesome! Now I can watch it again, and see if I can actually UNDERSTAND the show's political humour this time. I never understood it as a kid. I just giggled.
