Just finished watching this series. Watched all 13 episodes in one day. It's now my favorite of all time. Beautiful song. I can't stop listening to it. Makes my eyes tear up every time.
@chochoify Revolutionary Girl Utena. It's being re-released. It's like... five times longer but utterly brilliant. Just skip Secret Diary. That ep can just go die.
Haibane was one of my faviourite animes for what it represented, and the way they portrayed her transition into that world was amazing, it was really perfect.
Captivating, sad, emotional, every episode it was like stepping into theyre world =]
im new to chobits so i havent finished it yet but it is not as captivating as haibane renmei and doesnt even compare. it definitely didnt grab me like haibane renmei did. its peaceful and wonderful all at the same time. very worth watching over and over. i really want this to be the first anime my future children see in my opinion :)
How can you compare this show to Chobits? Chobits is just a sleazy, generic anime, aimed at old fat, 35yo otakus who had no childhood and wish they were teenagers again. In order to find an android sex toy in the trash bin, of course.
Also, the music in Chobits is totally forgettable, as opposed to Haibane Renmei. The soundtrack for this show was released on at least 4 CDs, and it only has 13 episodes.
@zugurudumba I agree with you on the most part. The only thing i kind of disagree is about the OStT chobits has 3 OST's that i still remember and i've seen it years ago. Of course they aren't comparable with Haibane Renmei's.
i started watching this show on animedubclub a few hours ago i'm on episode eight i'm realy enjoying the show i love the characters and the music i'm very glad that i stumbled across this anime
Animes like Chobits, Haibane Renmei, and Kurau Phantom Memory are some of my favorite animes. They're so beautiful, you know? And the music is absolutely magnificent~
It's a real pity youtube allways f*cks the audio in videos with that poor bitrate. Blue Flow is a great song. Haibane Renmei's opening is a great song too. The whole OST is great.
i loved the fact that after reiki and raka were purified from their sin, their same names opened other meanings to them which were the ones with more powerful meanings and made it their true ones
I think Reki (and Rakka) are sin-bound because they not only committed scuicide but had help and ignored it.
the whole thing with the crow makes me think that Rakka had people who were trying to help but she tried to deal on her own and killed herself. same with Reki because of the ending.
Those who remain Sin-Bound loose their wings and halo after a while and live their lives in the Temple, never interacting with the Haibane or the humans. The Speaker was one of those who remained sinbound. Also the maker said that he used the wings and halo because they simply looked cool, so they're not "angels" They're most likely tortured souls (suicide, never born, left alone, etc.) in a purgatory of sorts before they are reborn (Day Of Flight/Day Of Leaving The Nest).
Haibane Renmei is a very good anime but i just dont get it. Like where did they came from or where are they going. And does the wings mean that they are angels or something?
I think the place where the angels are is a place between earth and heaven. Like a second chance, maby they done something horrible or they have never given chance to live on earth and they sent to this place to become what they are meant to be. I think the halo and the feathers are an idea that these people are on some sort of trial and have to overcome to become an angel in heaven. But that is just my idea of the story.
A trial to become an angel? Thats nice. thank you. But do you know what happens when they fail. Do they go to hell or something? And about the black wings? And what i didnt get the most was the train.
I think when they fail they will go to hell or maby the same thing as hell they will be erased like never excisted. The black wings stands for sinn, and when rakka ignolized herself thats she was forgiven for her sins the black feathers became grey again.
The train in reki dream was an memorie of her life on earth how she died, i think she did suicide. In her life on earth she felt like she didnt belong and noone would miss her. And the feeling of rejection was still in her in the afterlife.
wait, that is't right either. what about the haibane renmei? during the anime, when the head renmei guy was explaining what happens to failed haibane, it sorta told you that he was a failed haibane. i think the failed haibane are forced to live in the city for eternity as haibane renmei or something. kinda like my religion. they teach that there are different levels of heaven. hell is a state of mind. if youre in a lower level and know you couldve been with god at the highest, thats hell.
Throughout the anime though it was said that the entire town was meant for the haibane, so the elders could be seen as guides to the younger ones. Although the show uses highly religious symbols, it is only meant to emphasize the ambiguity of what "living" could mean. Assuming that the haibane had lives previous to this one, it could be said that they didn't quite get a chance to live a full life and this town is a place to gather themselves before they rest in peace.
The only thing that could prevent them from moving on, is the "sin bound" mindset where the person damns him(or her)self to complete insolation from other people, giving up on life. I like ABe's choice of suicide as the highest expression of this attitude, Reki gave up on life in her first chance in life and her only chance of redemption at this town was reconnecting to humanity by reaching out for help
This series is by far one of the best allegories on how to move on from life ever written.
In every dream is somoene who cares and lookes after you, in reki's dream you heared a voice calling her name, in rakka's dream there was a bird. When you remember your dream before you enter the afterlife place and understands itt its a way of accepting yourself and to forgive.
Waw, (In every dream is somoene who cares and lookes after you). Somehow i wish that this can happen in my dreams......... And thank you, this was some shocking information you're like a Haibane Renmei specalist... But i have one more thing: About the other people in the city or town, are they also----ahh---dead. And what about the wall?
I think the other people are also dead or they live in another dimension, because the world or place they are living is not on earth. You hear in the movie : your blessed to be born here as an angel <-- its something special. And I think behind the wall is someting really evil maby hell? In the wall you coudl find a lifeline from every people who lives in that city maby its a like a symbolic intrepretion of the life and death scenario. Behind the wall coudl be death itself.
is not that hard to discover if you get all the pieces together, they are people who gave up to life (commited suicide) and have given a second chance, if i interpreted well their "dreams" are the last memory of their lives or the scene of their death, rakka's bird was her friend who tried to stop her but he couldn't
i don´t know what means the song , i´m sorry i don´t speak japanese i wish jaja . if somebody can tell me what means i´m gonna apreciate that thank you. in mexico we know how to apreciate the japanese anime. =) hi from mexico
Yeah, I guess that's true, but I've heard songs that were longer that didn't lose their meaning. I've looked up the translation of the lyrics and if you read them, you can see that the length of the song adds to its meaningfulness rather than taking away from it.
