  • ah come on i work on computers, when i get any hard drive i immeditly do a fresh instal of windows witch completly erases everything or i take a win 98 disk and boot up into cmd and get into fdisk and erase it that way but im one of the more honest people i dont go through ppls shit idc about it im just interested in the computer working

  • This is useful if the drive is completely defective and unrecognisable by computer/BIOS.

If possible, it's best to run Zero-Fill format multiple times, and then bring it to the electronics recycling place.

  • i just put mine in a vice and hit it with a sledgehammer.....

  • would have been easier to put on a drill press and just turn it into swiss cheese..since this routine only cleared half (or less dependent upon the # of platters) of the data.. but physical destruction on any level will do the job.

  • do this when it is plugged in computer

  • I hope you realize that that was only one side of the platter and there are usually at least two or more platters to a hard drive. Data is still recoverable from the other platters!

  • retard. Buy some sulfuric acid and dump the drive inside - done.

  • another way, watch a lot of porn! haha

  • Now thats what Kaci Anthony should have done

  • this guy is dumb

  • Or you could just burn the platter. 0 Chance of recovering data from ash.

  • bana verseydinya ben kullanırdım

  • douchebag....

  • feel better now..?

  • Or you could do it like me and smash it with a hammer, duh!

  • don't forget the fumes are toxic.

  • you have to destroy all of the disks if you really want to make sure its unrecoverable. you only did 1 side of 1 disk. you can use Drano. it devolves aluminum and glass. make a nice soup lol.

  • They don't make 'em like that any more! xD

  • Have you verified that it really doesn't work anymore?

  • This is like special olympics of question asking and statements!

  • What if it's a double drive?

  • wat sbout the other side??

  • aweonao no tienes otra cosa mas que hacer....

  • Remember Back-up first :-D

  • good format

  • i laughed ar this cause you are a dumb shit

  • does the warranty cover that?

  • Police use a technique known as "skimming". Basically it takes the damaged layer from the disk, leaving it shiny and new-looking, and 100% readable. It's magnetic storage; damaging the surface won't affect any data.

  • @DrategoniZero I would love to learn more about this, but google hasn't helped my find anything on it. Would you kindly help me?

  • Enough porn jokes.

  • That's how you destroy evidence so the cops don't get you...I love it. Protect your self from them at all cost.

  • @Blackwater200 the cops could still get something back from the small areas thatstill have something in em'

  • Why can't you just take a hammer and break the disc up into many pieces?

  • wouldn't it be easier to just put it in acid ?

  • @Doc842 i have destroyed many hard drives, the old one gig ones are pretty useless nowaddays

  • Well... That is one way of destroying evidence......:)

  • Moron

  • idiot

  • @Diel1024 Pas si idiot. Quand t'as un HD qui est mort, et que tu le met aux ordures, on peut te le retrouver et te piquer des infos qui se trouvent sur le disque simplement en le bricolant.

  • coool Idea! gonna try this! also the torch method is great!

Unless the surface is reallly torn up info can be retreived not just with the old drilling a single hole through it trick!

  • Avast alert "your hard drive is under attack" - "do you wish to delete this human" .

  • @SimplisticSalvatioNI if the hard drive was working then [YES]

  • you can still use it, i'l buff the scratches out

  • theres one way to get rid of all the viruses, as well as the computer, lol

  • you azzhole ur doin tht cuz ur hardrive dnt work mira mira que mamon do tht shit to a new hardrive

  • It's my understanding that the

    NSA can still read those

    ground-up codes

  • congratulations

  • WOW,WOW looks like you just waste a Hard drive and 53 seconds of our life with your stupid video.

  • and the two other layers? pipo

  • @Wintendows not every hhd hase 3 layers you dipshit

  • ах ты жучара, испортил жоский диск !

  • a nail and a hammer would have been so much simpler.

  • Suspect there might be a couple of bad sectors after you did that...

  • i got a old hdd and i feel like destroying it cause there are some infomation in it i just don`t want to keep at more O_O maybe i will just take out the hdd dics and cut in to 2 will do the job =D

  • Nice job, you should see how I blasted mine apart :youtuve video ID p0R652rjyW8

  • thats one way to reformat

  • Of all these dramatic methods the easiest way is to remove the central hub (comes off easily) remove the platter, shatter it and burn the bits. Quick, quiet and beyond doubt.

  • what is size of your hard drive?

  • wow! :P

  • that would still ahve some memory because it got 3 layers whit magnetic fields on both sides only 1/3 or 1/6 of all memory is lost right now.

  • @rodebest it is totally unrecoverable. No one has EVER been able to recover from "some" of the platters, they have to be perfectly in sync.

Though, the better solution would be to scratch it up and hit the platters with a hammer, just to be sure.

  • mom why wont windows load

  • Vandals!!!!!

    ;-(

  • et les autres couches ?

  • for eveyone bitching why this guy distroyed his hard drive It could of been dead, or even just had data from years, (personal data) and got a new computer and needed the data to be distroyed

  • there are more than one disk

  • you fucked it up :D

  • What about the other side?

That looks fun to do though; 15,000 RPM :3

  • ur gonna cut your hand up bad

  • i regularly destroy hard drives, im a writer so if comp fooks up i destroy hdd so engineer fixing it wont get my unfinished books, i jus grind the discs to nothing, gotta take all the surface off to a depth to clean em completely, best jus grinding em up to nothing

  • did it not load your porn or somethin? poor HDD get a SSD!!!! lol

  • LMFAO!

  • This is just cruel...

  • You are a dumb ass!

  • Really, Why?

  • Why...why not do a zero fill format on the thing, then format it and then use it again or sell it at reduced cost as a spare? If that drive was functional that was stupid! If it was dead anyway then I rescind my statement.

  • @PrometheusFX It was dead, and from a Photocopier.

  • Okay then I rescind my statement....a photocopier with a hard drive? Interesting...

  • Yep, I got 4 or 5 more, well......1 less if what I trying to do right now works.

  • What exactly are you trying to do?

  • @PrometheusFX I've had one Soaking in Bleach for 24 hours.

  • @PrometheusFX someone with a really high interest in the data can recover after a Zero fill (though it is totally impractical and will probably cost like millions).

There are many companies that drill through the platters (!) before they throw away their HDDs containing confidential data.

Then again, there are Top Secret Government Contractors like Lockheed Martin that do a simple "delete" and wonder how their files end up in the hands of nigerian scammers (no joke!),

  • couse ur extreme idiot , why would u fuck the hdd like that...

  • WTF? did you not read where these came from?

  • @bobiminkov its for destroying sensitive data on your harddrive when you're done using it, fucking dipshit

  • he destroid his porno collection xDD

  • Sweet...looks like an ice skating rink

  • out in the microwave burn it with a spray paint blow torch and then the fbi probably is not going to find what was

  • soooooooo childish...

  • Que

  • well keep it up, make an innovative destruction, like explosion or burn up...or smoke..or smelt it >: )P

  • what ya paid for it

  • It was free.

It actually came off a copier and I have 3 or 4 more somewhere that I plan on destroying somehow but never got around to.

  • WOW!!!!!

    U R STUPID!!!!!!

  • Sorry bro, the shredder wasn't available for this one.

  • then put it in your pc! :D

  • I bet I can still read that...

    I"m just kidding.

  • we give our old HD's to the local police force. they use them at the shooting range they love it

    Data Protection eh

  • chkdsk c: /r

  • lol now take it back claiming it stopped working

  • There goes all the porn :(

  • Let me guess...Confidential Information right? RIGHT?

  • Why dont simply strike it once with a Sledge ?

  • Doesn't this look cooler?

  • No it looks tiring, cooler whould be if you:

Use a tesla coil to toast it.

    or

    Shoot it.

    or

Use a catapult to fire it skyhigh so that it shatters on impact.

    or

Open it and fill it with Black Powder - Boom.

Something like that whould be cool.

  • Just another way to get rid of viruses

  • murderer

  • HONEY, WHERE IS MY DREMEL?

  • noob..

  • What about the platters under the top one?

  • that only applies if it's a multiple platter drive, not all drives are

  • THE POOR HARD DRIVE :)

  • Why would you waest something like that?

  • You're not allowed to own a dremel anymore.

  • poor Hard Drive...

  • why you do that?

  • Now you gotta BBQ it!

  • you should have tried to boot it after.

  • it wont work

  • really?

  • LOL... "it wont work"

    NOO WAY!

  • lol

  • its a seagate but please whats the product code?

  • You know all that did was make the first platter unreadable. There are still other platters that havent been touched with information still on it and if somebody really wanted to they could still get it.

  • Check part 3.

  • So, besides the two platters, what other parts hold info?

  • Ou mai god xD

  • That just destroys the first platter

  • nice

  • thats painfull

  • I can't believe some companies takes charges over $300 for doing this kinda thing when deleting a hard drive.

  • hard drive with pornos;) DESTROY!!! xD

  • What ever did the hard drive do to deserve this?

  • Beats me it's from a copier, I have a few more just laying around.

  • Formatting, you are doing it wrong.

  • @crocz lol, we need a motivational poster for that!!

  • Wystarczy jedna kreseczka na talerzu i utrata danych będzie nieodwracalna

  • Wow, why dude. Why?

  • It's good to keep away the hackers at least. No way they could get any data out of that drive :)

  • You know what I do, unplug the internet. They cant hack me if they can't reach me! XD

  • OORRGHH !! i came a bit...

  • LMAO

  • just get a drill and drill into the center of it at full speed (we have to do that in our company to make sure data isnt stolen when discarding of hdds

  • go to start then run type cmd then chkdsk that will fix it lol oh might what to defrag too

  • poor hdd :(

  • i just either use a sledge hammer or a welding torch.

  • where can i find a HD???

  • In a computer perhaps?

  • ^^lol

havent you got anything better to do with your time? :-D

    5*

  • Gotta do something,

  • I just checked with a computer repairman I know he assured me there is NO way the data on here is readable, The datasavers info they retrieved was from a computer that the drive was protected by the drive case and the computer case as well, it was not exposed to fire directly.

  • I want to back up nafongo22. I work at a computer repair shop one of the things we do is get data back for people with failed hdds. While this would make the data unrecoverable for us there is a company we send out priority jobs that we can't handle called drive savers and they can recover data even with extensive physical damage. That damage doesn't change the magnetic properties of the platters. In fact that is a rather inefficient way to make your data unrecoverable.

  • So what is the name of this company?

  • DriveSavers

  • @mygaffer i guarantee you that they would not get a single MB off of that drive. No one could. the alignment of the platters matters.

  • actually if someone could recreate the data on this quite easily, it just makes it unreadable by a standard hard drive. only way to truly erase the data is by using a hard drive cleaner utility. If the drive fails, you could always melt it. that would work, however simply torching it with a blowtorch doesnt destroy the data, it still retains its magnetic properties.

  • Doing this and the torch did nothing.....I HIGHLY doubt that.

  • i never said it does nothing. it makes it unreadeable to just about anyone without highly specialized (and expensive) hardware. Data on a hard disk is not stored on the surface of the disk, its stored within the metal itself and uses the metals magnetic properties to store and retreieve data. simply roughing up the surface does not erase the magnetic data stored within the metal itself.

  • It should not make a difference, that thing got so nuked it is not possible, It was burned through in the 3rd video.

  • im only talking about this video

  • @nafango22 the metal layer you talk about is so thin, you can get it off by scratching it with a knife. Some HDD Platter are made of glass, with those it is rather easy to see (you can scratch off the top surface pretty easily)

  • Or just toss it on a busy highway.

  • that was a waste of my time

  • is faster if u putinto microwaves

  • its faster if u put in to microwaves

  • The microwave destroys the drive's electronics, it won't destroy the actual data on the platter so easily.

If someone *really* wanted your data, they could easily transfer the platters or replace the electronics and bingo.

Not very likely if you're just wanting to erase your credit card info, quite plausible if the FBI are after you though.

  • @NotATube no one could ever recover this drive. Companies saying they can are lying, nothing else. They know they can't do it.

  • @HumbleLovingBeliever *This* drive? Probably not; I was talking specifically about killing it by microwave oven though.

If some US government agency had countless millions to spend and infinite patience they might be able to retrieve *some* data from the few unscoured areas of this drive, but... rather them than me :-)

  • Man you are destroying your Dremel in the proces! :D

  • more than 1 layer...just sayin... =P

  • what about the otehr side

  • That the one that got torched

  • Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo not my Poooooooooooooooooooooooooooor

    Pooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooorrrrrrrnnnnnnn Lol

  • fuck hard drives. i'm bitter now after i've lost data (... i know, it was my BACKUP that failed), and i'm hoping solid state becomes mainstream soon.

  • Yh i agree with you hdd is prone to crash. Beside that hdd uses more electrical power, it's heavy & chunky. I hope one day soon most computers replace flash drive to replace hdd.

  • dunno why we haven't already switched. i mean, sure, ssd capacities are meager compared to their hdd counterparts, but to me, they should've developed and focused on ssd a long time ago.

    we should dump hdds altogether.

  • bye bye bill gates

  • that's what you should do to a hard drive you don't need anymore

  • there go's the porn

  • Noooooooooooooooo!!!!
