This is an updated response as I messed up with the chords. The chords are Gm7-Am7-Bb during the verses. I treat the song as being in the key of Bb and go from there with the modes. I don't practice much anymore so I cheated and noted the modes on the paper with the words. I mostly used Gm Aeolian (has the Eb note) but also played in Bb Ionian, Cm Dorian, Dm Phrygian, and F7 Mixo. I used a D7#9 arppegio at the end of the chorus.

I think the playing is amazing. While the singer had a really good voice, Iunno if it fit the song all that much. But really, unlike a lot of people, I can't play and sing either so.. But... this is a really, really awesome cover! I'm glad to have heard it!

The intention of this video and this song was to play something we both enjoyed- and to put it on youtube to share with our families and friends. By no means did we ever declare to be better than Van or to be great guitar players. This was a jam we did on a whim with only 1 or 2 practices before hitting record. It just so happens that it has attracted a lot of attention.

I'll try to decipher your comment. The music you're hearing is called a "cover." The only supporting background is a Boss DR-5 drum machine. Ryan, my best student, is playing bass and I'm singing and on guitar. Moondance was a lesson we did awhile back that focussed on a walking bass line and it's a good tune to jam out on. He played great and we had fun.

I really didn't explain myself regarding these songs with Ryan. He was my music student (guitar & bass) for about 3 years. He's back from college and we got together and jammed. These songs we're rehearsed but were the basis of past lessons. We got together, went over the changes, talked about an ending, and pressed the record button.
