@Kenny2k08 that would make sense if this world was all there is. Suffering points those prepared to be enlightened to the fact that something is not quite "right" in this world - paradise has been lost. But if you cling to your short life in this world as the only reality and think "this is all there is", then you would probably hold child-like opinions such as that that fly in the face of millenia of all spiritiual and wisdom teachings. Time to grow up?!
@ojuicedogg God is all powerful and all knowing, right? And he can see into the future. So why create Adam and Eve when he KNEW they were going to eat from the tree and create sin which he oh-so-very-much-hates? That's all the proof I need to know there is no God that many Christians foolishly look past.
@Kenny2k08 that's a fairly basic theological question that shouldnt take u too long to research the answer to if you really wanted to know. The question now, as has always been, how do you respond to God right now? He gives you everything you enjoy, life, breath, nature, relationships, love. Without him and his gifts there is nothing but misery & torment and suffering. Do you continue to hold an attitude of rebellion, or choose ultimate happiness in who God is for us in Jesus?
@ojuicedogg Isn't there enough misery, torment and suffering BECAUSE of God? Brainwashing in North Korea, millions upon millions starving, people born terribly deformed, corruption in many governments, people committing murder in God's name, thousands of diseases and sicknesses... must I continue? If God is supposed to be so loving, I'd hate to see the power of a hateful God. Life, breath, nature, etc. are the results of millions of years of development. It wasn't easy to get to this point.
@Kenny2k08 because of the ABSENCE of God's total rule. Hence the coming Kingdom of God that Jesus showed us glimpses of. Everywhere he went he set people free from opression and healed all diseases, provided food for the hungry etc. And Jesus is the exact representation of God's heart for mankind. Now you are beginning to understand my friend:)
@ojuicedogg No, because if God is so damn powerful, he would be able to stop this shit from happening. He's not absent, he just doesn't give a fuck what happens to us. He's up there with a bag of popcorn watching children starve. What kind of loving God is that? I was raised a Christian until I opened my mind and noticed the countless fallacies in the Bible and it all seems so unbelievably stupid now. Hell, the bible doesn't even mention dinosaurs and says the Earth is flat. Complete give away.
@Kenny2k08 I think you will find Jesus proved God is more than powerful enough to stop "this shit" from happening - raising people from the dead out of compassion. The problem is not God's power or love, and always remember he has actually experienced the most intense suffering, more than any human on the cross, and he weeps as we weep, feels our pain and relates to us. He is not unconcerned. As CS Lewis wrote so clearly, "pain is God's megaphone to the world": "wake up!"
@ojuicedogg If Jesus died for sin, why are people still being born in parts of the world where they could never have possibly even heard of Jesus, thus damning them to hell? There are all these other religions that would love you tell you you're wrong. So how are people supposed to know what religion to choose from? Is it just "Oh sorry, Christianity isn't available in your country. Sucks for you!"? If you were raised, say, Hindu, you'd be telling Christians why they're wrong. Don't you see?
@Kenny2k08 mate, I'm not trying to be "right", not interested in that. I do understand where you arre coming from, have battled same issues deeply in myself that u bring up here. hate the same things in the world, the suffering the injustice... I just know in my heart we r all in the same boat & its going down... and only Jesus has ever offered hope to a dying world and scared people. it still doesnt stop me crying out "why does it have to be this way in the first place!?"
@ojuicedogg Well I prefer the logical approach in things. More evidence leans towards the Big Bang and evolution and there's no evidence for a God. God was our ancestors' way of understanding things they didn't understand. But now, as we continue research, we find that God isn't the answer to those questions anymore. We don't have the answer to everything yet, but we've made pretty good progress in the past 200 or so years.
@Kenny2k08 well we shall leave our discussion their with some mutual respect I hope for the sake of a peaceful end to the year:) Although your words do remind me of Dawkins (a lot!). Anyways, I guess if God is God then he's not an academic theory to be discussed but someone to relate to and experience... so, anyways - wish you a content and peaceful 2012 bro! Shalom!
10:09am - - - ah nxt gen, I remember three links ago when it was 10:01am and I first listened to you tear Andrew Lansly and growing UK elitism apart with style and wit. Back then you seemed so credible, I was one of the 'likes'. Back then it seems everybody who witnessed you offered praise and encouragement. How things have changed. In three links we've all been let down, we're all so disappointed now, that is, except for the lame ones, the sad, the weak and the misguided ones. G.I.D. it's over
@JosephKemetmuller oh just that Hitler used language like that to justify gassing the "lame ones, the sad, the weak and the misguided ones".
Everyone is weak, everyone gets sick, dies, depends on others directly and indirectly in a thousand ways every day.
Misguided... it is the proud who dont see their need for enlightenment - they have a log in their eye while criticising the speck in anothers. You more enlightened that Jesus or the Buddha bro?!
Brilliant! Here is a guy that writes brilliant lyrics, has the talent to rap and has the guts to make his beliefs public. And what do viewers do? Criticise! *sigh* Well done NxtGen, keep up the good work!!
Anyway, sorry for clogging up your comments. I do admire you for having the guts to spread your faith and I do commend you for that. However, I do not admire you for what is simply an anti-scientific stance. You can believe that God caused the big bang, nobody knows what caused it. You can claim god created the first life, knowing it would evolve into us, again, nobody knows how life started.
Religion and science aren't incompatible, so there's no need for your anti-science stance.
@mrwho995 - I don't think he was supporting creationism per se, but attacking the simplistic view of Darwinian evolution championed by Richard Dawkins et al. We all know that humanity did not evolve from monkeys - and I have to say that science does not explain everything. In fact, the more it explains, the more questions we are left with. I don't think for a moment that evolution happened entirely at random - but that it happened is indisputable. NG is saying much the same, I think.
Hmm maybe you're right with regards to what he meant. I'm taking it that you believe in god-guided evolution? I really do wish more people followed your line of reasoning - I have no quarrels with those who do not reject science due to their faith. If you believe that humans were also supposed to be made, of course evolution would have to be guided. From an atheistic perspective though, of course there's no need for a guide because there's no goal, just an outcome.
"But attacking the simplistic view of Darwinian evolution championed by Richard Dawkins et al."
If you don't mind, could you elaborate on what you mean by this?
"I have to say that science does not explain everything."
I'd say 'Science has not explained everything' is a more accurate statement. There's no reason to believe that there are some areas science can't expalin, we're just not there yet.
And finally, the evidence for the big bang is also overwhelming. For one, the TBB predicts an abundance of hydrogen throughout the whole universe; 95% of the elements in our universe is hydrogen. It predicts large-scale homogeneity; our universe is homogeneous on the large scale. The big bang predicts the CMBR, a constant radiation throughout the whole universe. The CMBR was found after TBB was first theorised, and it predicted EXACTLY the right temperature. There's no other way to explain it.
@mrwho995 you are ok with that!? my fresh blood is dripping and you're "ok" with it. Great. Well I want to know what's your opinion on the historically recorded factual figure of Jesus and his claims about who he is? Bit more recent than the big bang...
What the hell are you on about with 'fresh blood dripping'? I'm an atheist. If you're talking about Jesus's crucifixion, I care no more about his crucifixion that anyone else's. I know not even close enough to make an informed decision here, but I'd say that Jesus may have existed, but he didn't have his magic powers. Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence, and Jesus's magic powers require a lot more than a few supposed eyewitness accounts from 2,000 years ago.
@mrwho995 my nose bleed. You caused it - it may not have happened if it wasnt for you. I was reading your comment and I sneezed. And you dont even care. That makes me feel sad. How does one become an atheist - sounds like an interesting religion - what does it involve, and what do i have to do to join?
@mrwho995 ok, but i admire you for being one - must take a lot of will power to not eat meat or dairy products for your whole life. Best wishes for 2012.
@mrwho995 atheism requires a strict diet doesn't it? It's about saving the animals and living naturally: don't worry I read all about it some time ago... no milk, no cheese, not even fish. Proud of you buddy - you must have a lot of self control, and it shows that you care about the planet too.
Your question about the sperm or the man is based on a misunderstanding of how evolution works. There is no definitive moment at which "humans are now here" hence there is no definitive moment when there was the first man or the first sperm. As for life in general, the present (although unproven) belief is of a naturalistic origin. You're right in that nobody knows exactly what happened (alhough there are many explanations) but we know for a fact that evolutio happened after this point.
The evidence for evolution is overwhelming. The fossil record provides millions of snapshots in time of evolution - you can SEE what happened in the past as everything evolved. As well as this, genetic evidence shows how we are 95% similar to apes, and furthermore you can actually use genetic evidence to map a family tree of our distant relatives from millions of years ago ... and this tree fits in with the one mapped with the fossil record.
Hey, I'm an atheism, and although I admire you for having such strong beliefs and will not condemn you for it, your stance on creationism is simply moronic. I'm sorry, you're clearly intelligent, but intelligent people can have unintelligent beliefs.
feel a little a dissapointed that you believe in god, oh well thanks for your raps anyway, you are still one of the few talented real rappers out there and I was waitin for some more political stuff, I found it insulting that you said "great grandad is a monkey" etc, they are all proven facts! we evolved!!!
@zzzzJAGJEETzzzz - humans were never monkeys. Darwin himself could tell you that. We evolved from ape-like beings which were not monkeys. MCNG is attacking an excessively simplistic view of creationism. Actually, science doesn't have answers for everything - the more it explains, the more questions are asked.
