  • Wow your a retard. I don't even know how to respond to such ignorance.

  • shut up u idiot

  • sucks to be them that's why I feel sympathy, I would never kill someone cause I know how much I would be crying when someone tries to kill me.

  • War did get long because Diamond smugglers who went to Liberia and gave Weapons for diamonds to rebels.

  • I want to donate but i want to make sure they i can trust a place where i can help them if aynone knows please give me a link in a msg.

  • Rebels should get destoried the Goverments Soldier should destroy them and the Rebels should respekt them!!1

  • children of sierra leone are suffering every day and need food so get the donations in please i already donated over 10,000 dollars worth of money to sierra leone

  • how does one get involved with this organization. I don't want to be a donor, I want to join the crusade against poverty.

  • Yeah great video, thanks for posting and trying to spread the story of what took place in Sierra Leone. Glad to know that Sierra Leone is moving away from that. One reccomendation is that you try to find a better translator. the caption was not really what the people were saying yes i know sometimes the caption come before or after the actual comment, but it was still not the correct caption. please try to have an a native speaker with your editor next time you edit. i'll be glad to help.

  • Thanks for your kind comment. You are correct - it is a challenge for non-native editors to always get the captions placed properly. We had translators with us during filming - so we knew what was being said. But then when editing, did not always get it placed properly. It would have been helpful to have had enough budget for a native speaker to sit in on the edit. But small budgets can make that difficult. I appreciate your kind offer - and will certainly keep it in mind for the future.

  • heather. at 1.36 it shows a pcs of mocus up your nose, and i cant concentrate on nothing but your nose mucus

  • This is not mucus -- it is a nose ring!! Check your glasses.

  • It's a piercing I think

  • I saw a documentary about this on free speech television last night, watched most of it but changed the channel towards the end simply because the videos were so violent and brutal. I'm glad that peace has been achieved, but it still sickens me that not even the UN wanted to help this country out. They stood by the ecomog forces that were brutally killing both rebels and innocent civilians. They also rigged the election and tried to achieve democracy in a country that was in a state of warfare.

  • This is actually a really interesting video but some of the translations you posted were not even what the children were saying. Did you really use someone who speaks Krio to translate for you guys?

  • Yes, all translation was done by Krio speakers. However, in the editing process, sometimes what was being said did not line up exact with text on screen. Editor did not speak Krio. But everything in the video was actually said during the interviews. Hope this helps.

  • i hope someone can answer this.

why doesnt the US or UN do soemthing about this?

  • The Sierra Leone civil war ended in 2002.

It's actually quite ironic, because people from the US inadvertently contributed to the RUF (Revolutionary United Front).

The UN actually did help stop the war, and help resolve many problems in the country afterwards.

  • They already have. Sierra Leone has been at peace since 2001...

  • oh. thanks.

  • how cant really do nothing U.S dont own africa

  • Why don't you do something?

  • i watched the national geographic blood diamonds...it was very interesting but i cried...we watched this movie during my ap human geography class....but the rebels made the people dig for diamonds...thats so awful...i didnt really know much about the rape thing but wow...thats krazy...my family sponsers a child not from sierra leone but i want to sponser one specifically from sierra leone...those kids do deserves something amazing...

  • nice.

i recently quit my job and then i saw this video.

made me want to work and sponsora child.

  • Healing this world is what we all should have in mind while we go on with our individual lives. These are the moments when I think of all those rich people in this world, from hollywood superstars to bill gates.

Wornderful job, thanks for making a difference and excuse my bad english if anything is weirdly written.

  • How sad... I would have loved to go there.. I would have brought as much stuff as I could

  • That is horrible...very bad. Well Im not from Sierra Leone directly, Im Jamaican and I understand Krio...I dont speak it but I have friends/associates from Sierra Leone. The Krio wasn't translated exactly correct but other than that I'm really touched and enlightened. It's messed up the ppl so young have to go through such a horrible thing.

  • kadi

Hi Heather and RachaelI congruatulate you guys for your good works and courage to help make a different in my home land I was deeply move by the stories of the children. I hope this will multivate we sierra leonian out here in North American to help rebuild our mother land and a different in the life of children who have been expose to see terrible things during the war. Thank you guys for all your hard work. God Bless.

  • i sponsor for a little boy in Sierre Leone , from the black and white , it is my honor to do it !

  • What was up with the American whispering about Jesus after that girl talked about how she was raped by her mother's corpse? Do you really need to quote scripture in the midst of this? No. The tragedy speaks for itself.

  • how the hell do you go from talking about peoples parents dying to trying to make people give 20 dollars

  • Hi, Are the children in this video speaking Krio?

  • I believe that is correct, but am not certain. There was a translator with us and he helped us convert what they were saying to English. JD

  • the two girls (with the gray background) are speaking krio. the two boys are speaking english with thick accents.

not exact translations but they get the right point across. thank you for trying to make a difference!

  • We're all guilty in the West because we all exploit African resources and want to pay the cheapest prices for oil, coffee, diamonds etc.

  • hey REMEMBER Y"ALL AFRICA NEEDS YOUR HELP PLEASE. they dont televise what really goes on down there

  • Pics or it didn't happen

  • Obivously this isn't half of HALF their problems.

As for children and the uneducated they must be taught standards and how to make use of their agriculture. As for the rebels...shot at dawn (if not sooner)

  • These white women pretend to go there for other people, but they actually go for themselves. When you volunteer to go to a conflict zone, FORGET about yourself.

  • I find it interesting that you know what their motives are for going. I am the one who asked them to speak on camera -- they did not ask to do so. And the reason I asked them is because the video was intended for an American audience. S.L. English is often hard to understand -- so I asked them to help tell the story. And they did great.

  • Thank you for trying to make a diiference. I saw the movie "Blood Diamond" last week and it made me sick. (I know it was fiction, but these things happened) Are things getting better over there?

  • This video had no affect on me. Somehow I felt these girls were a bit naive. I've been to Sierra Leone and the few americans and europeans who care to help are not going to make much of a difference. Sorry.

  • at 1:35 that laidy has a huge bugger

  • It is actually a nose ring -- but can see how you might think it is something else....

  • o ok now i see it

  • It is a hard life out there. I am a film maker from Sierra Leone. I know the struggle. Keep up the good work.

  • im From sierra leone i experinced the war.... but i dont know why this happened to such a great country

  • Really great movie, I deeply respect it that you are doing this for the people in Sierra Leone... what happend ( and might still happen ) there is horrible and never to be forgotten.

  • the kids from sierra leone need to go to america

  • this makes me want to go to sierra leone and kick some communist ass!

  • the R.U.F. weren't communist. get informed before you get mad.

  • I was there during all the war and my perent were during the war.when i watch this clip i always cry remeber my perent.i am now in U.S,california

  • man... i feel helpless just listening to them.. ther r so many ppl tht need help but powerful countries aren't doing anything

  • ppl wake up, cause, action, n reaction, question yor selves, n try to b a little bit logical, these are no natural disasters, these are crimes of men, n we are all responsible for it, for sleepin n singing and dreaming abt peace , it wont happen, look deep for the roots,...

  • thank you very much i was there the first and the second war my dad was here in the U S he sent for me and every time i saw this video i cry cause i know what they go throught and God bless you and your family for helping my brothers and sister

    thx

  • i feel so bad 4 all of themespecialy isata & ameta

  • What's up with the whispering and thunder?! That just makes it creepy and cheap.

I am glad that they are trying to make a difference, but it's not about them, it's about the kids. Anyways, I hope people really begin to understand that a little money really does go a long way. Half the world lives on $2 a day or less. SO even if you only donate 5 or 10 dollars, you are still making an impact.

  • Still, the IMF and the World Bank are the real reason for Africa's ongoing and increasing economic poverty and financial debt. :(

  • imonly 14 i wish i could sponser theses children but where do i start

  • There are several great organizations who can help you sponsor a child. The one that this video was made for is World Hope International. Others include Compassion International and Trips with a Mission. Google any to find their site. Thanks for your kindness.

  • i would love to help those ppl out there,but i prefer diamonds...i mean...i get my diamonds,i sell them,then i donate.yeah man...thats the way.

  • what do you exactly mean by that i mean thats being self centered and jud=st down right evil if you dont feel an urge to change your ways!!!!

  • this was a great clip

am from sierra leone n i understand everything that my follow peers went through. although i excaped the war i hav heard many sad stories.

so it was good to see a clip like this. to me u shouldn't only put this clip in youtube. you should put it on tv where many can see.

  • I agree, great little film, I did feel the whispering took away from the film, not so much the whispering itself, but the shot of the two women whispering....

  • As a retired Marine, Once my Daughter cried becous her hair was not just right! I sat her on my lap very kindly and told her there are kids her age that go hungry every night, Many children wonder if they will live to see the next sun rise. Some have seen a family member killed. Then I laughed, and your crying over your God damb hair? I was not ever Father of the year LOL. But my girls grew up knowing what is importent in life.

  • Hey guys. As a Sierra leonean I applaude your efforts. Thanks a lot. I dont know who did your translating but some of your subtitles are really off. People might question your integrity

  • Thanks for your kind note. You are correct that sometime the translation is off. We had a script of what they were saying -- but did not always know exactly when they were saying it. Will try to do better next time. Thanks again for your kind words.

  • this is really good

  • interesting, i've been sponsoring a little girl in Sierra Leone since April 2006 and sending her teaching my lesson plans, I'm in edu.

  • so true. thanks for uploading

  • Must say those children amaze me. If I were in there position I'd probably be permanently catatonic not talking about starting over. They shouldn't be dieing in these god-forsaken places, we NEED them. We need more strong people.
