tubamaxima - - wow ! what an incredible experience. No, there are no organs like this and the other great Clicquot and Cavaille-Coll organs in America. The great churches that many of these stand in too adds to the overwhelming audio impact of these stunning instrments that would be lost in dry acoustical character so often associated with American venues.
Whenever I hear these great French instruments in the glorious acoustics of the buildings they inhabit I am just transfixed - - feel like I've left this plane for a higher one for a few moments. When I went to Paris years ago I did not get to hear this organ, but I did just sit on the floor next to one of the great pillars and ' drink ' in the glorious atmosphere of the afternoon winter sunlight streaming in and bathing everthing with a marvelous glow of otherwordly proportions. I got to pay this organ in 1982. I was the most incredible musical experience of my life. It is hard to describe. The full organ thunders and the sound rolls down the church like a tidal wave and washes back over you. Underneath are the rumbling basses, on top are the shimmering highs. At first i was nervous but the sound had a calming effect and I felt at peace. Almost religious. There are no organs in America like this.
The section around 1m45s is losely based on the closing bars of one of Marcel Dupre's later fugues (1928 I think). Can't remember the opus no. off hand though. Very different from the Op7s though... Regards, Paul :-)
Every time we are in Paris we need this organ to fill our souls with the magnificent sounds and feel the bass notes reverberate even through our feet to our hearts. You capture this sound.
I was in Paris for the first time in my life in April of 2007. We planned our trip around Mass at St Sulpice with Daniel Roth on the ogran, and an organ concert later in the afternoon. To say this was the most phenomenal, spiritual experience of my life would be an understatement. Truly, there is a sense of timeless one-ness with God in this incredible church, and the extraordinary, "other-worldly" music is what carries our prayers to heaven.
Thanks for keeping the camera rolling until all the sound died away. O, what a fantastic organ in a fabulous Church! I want to worship God there someday, and I am not even Catholic! Was Daniel Roth playing? That man is awesome; he can do more with 56 keys than most of us can with 61.
Thanks- I just had to get the reverb on the video! Daniel Roth was playing- check out my other videos, and I have one of him playing after he allowed people to go upstairs to the console- amazing time!

Nearly EVERY good organ is unique. What makes these so astounding is the acoustical setting. The organ, COmpaoser and building all is one. Bingo!!!
