  • joss like a FLIM show, haha, love it,love it,memories of acre lane in brixton and the houseparties

  • I'm gonna bun a spliff with Pluto tonight

  • Rasta Ozzy hehehe!

  • Don't know who originally tried to do the lyrics, but they have got a few bits wrong. Having listened to this many times now I can confirm that Pluto never says t'ing always "thing": "Hush your mout' man me bredren hear. Sell I a pound a dat thing there." is what he says. 5th line of chorus is: "What'cha know - you no sight de rate?" - ie, translated into English he replies to the butcher 'Have you not seen how much you're charging for steak?"

  • this was played on the alex lester show on radio 2 so had to look on here to hear it again what a tune!

  • 'i think i made me three children to this song'

  • My whole family was born in Guyana. Exept my sister and I were born in New York. We listen to music like this all the time. We have Pluto on a CD.

  • Funny!!

  • sell i a pound a dat ting deer

  • Radio 1 (in the UK) played a radio safe version back in 1976 where Pluto was buying anything other than weed!

  • Ozzy works out his grocery bill and discovers he can only afford pork, which is against his religion, after he buys his weed, so he tries to hide it, that's pretty much what it's about i do believe.

  • @DirtyUnclesTunes No its about how he really only has money for weed but he doesn't want weed so he buys pork instead.

  • @kswaggerdiva lol, no - the fourth line should read: "De dunny (ie, money) done WHERE him save fi buy little weed?" - ie, times are hard and Ozzy is looking at his grocery bill and wondering how he can save money to buy weed. Answer: He must buy the cheapest meat - pork, which is against his religion.

  • I attempted to try to interpret myself. I made some headway but it was much was too dense. Love that it finally made it! Well done to all involved! :-)

  • I am English. I bought this single in 1976 when it was a hit in the UK. Never had a scooby what it was about (meat? fish? ... something) I remember looking for it online for years from the mid 90's when I first got internet access and it truly was like it didn't exist. Really it was the lyrics, the explanation of them that I wanted. I could play the vinyl any time I wanted (along with his other two UK Hits), but, having no luck, ZERO, I mean ZILCH,

  • just a classic tune great days and so many childhood memories must say dat butcher was pushing to sell his meat.

  • Regarding the line about 'burn me belly when I pull on me pipe', this means that tripe gives him HEARTBURN! These lyrics have a lot of sly undertones which just add to the 'country' feel of the song. It's amazing how this tune keeps dragging me back to the youtube forum!

  • love it tes74.... well done

  • I loved this song since I first heard it, but I could never make out what the lyrics were. I always used to think they would be about something deep.

    Apparently I was very wrong.

  • whats arnold fat?

  • Yes, why "Arnold Fat?" I've spent 34 years wondering. Has to mean pork, so did someone have a pig called Arnold?

  • BTW forgot to say: great choon! thanx for posting.

  • I and I feel safer if we change the subject and call it Dat

    Absolute classic

  • sit on me billy when a smoke me pipe

  • I always liked the sound of Rasta Ozzy.

You could really see his dilemma.

  • haha what an innocent time

  • great tune. Big up Mr Shervington.

  • This brings back memories.. excellent tune by mr shervington!

  • luv dis!!!!!!!!!1

  • This song is funny as hell. Most of Pluto's songs are.

  • Comment removed

  • I luv this so much :)))))

  • Yes, 'DAT' is pork, which is prohibited for Rastafarians to eat. The song is all about Ozzy only having enough cash for some pork and a bit of weed money left over, so he has to be cagey when purchasing the food.He doesn't want his bredren to know, so he hides it in his bag, but unfortunately Rasta Jeremiah catches him in the act!!!! A great song that brings back memories of my teenage years

  • yes man, and beatifully explained. One love

  • @larjanus

    at last

a clue about what is going on in this song

    love it

    early seventies stylie

  • thanks for sharing, my mom used to play his songs but I couldnt listen to them they were for the adults only... lol

  • Went to see The Specials last week and this was played by the dj between acts.

  • its funny, i always thort "DAT" was weed.

but it would appear its just pork?

class song mate, not heard it in an age.

didnt pluto also do one to the same tune about a peeping tom?

  • Dat cuz Rastaman no supposed 2 eat di ras pork seen! King Soloma, Highly Salasi Jewish blood line seen! You hundersand man? safe!

  • yea cheers man, i did know that but hadn't undersood it untill i reheard it the other week, great feelgood song tho, all smiles so much so now summer has arived,,, cool mate, thanks for reply, you ava good one hey :o)

  • Someone has already answered your first question it is indeed pork "dat" refers to, as for the peeping tom tune its different but it is Pluto and its called "Your Honour" its on youtube also. BTW its not a peeping tom its a guy who bedded someone elses wife and was caught in the husbands closet and now trying to make up excuses in court why hes innocent.

  • me bruder, fakin A

  • I love this song....it reminds me of my young days listening to 'Tighten up volume 1' - Brilliant!

  • i love that bit "its just like a flim show" great

  • Aww ditto... sounds like "FLIM SHOO" hahaha ...my fave bit is when he says.."burn me belly when i pull on me pipe"...!!! Love love love it..!!! :D

  • its 'hold my belly' :P

  • Nope.... its most def burn me belly.... his weed obviously n=burns his belly when he pulls on his pipe!!!

Unless of course you are thinking of something else when he says "Pull on me pipe"!!!! :P

  • maybe i did :P but weed doesnt burn your stomach lol

  • More chance of a lit smoke burning your belly than what you are thinking about ....unless you've been eating acid!! :P

  • what the hell was sadnav writing?.

A great novelty tune which made the patois indispensable on the playgrounds of 70's London.

  • Sadnav had written the lyrics to this tune.. then mailed me to tell me.. i left him a comment to tell him i already had the lyrics there... and thats me just noticed he has deleted what he had written.. i wasnt rude or that in fact i thought it was quite sweet.. :D

  • Sadnav... i think that our lyrics differ slightly from one anothers .. thanks again though!!! :D

  • Comment removed

  • Hey.. thanks very much for that but if you had clicked on my more info at the side .. then you would see i had already put the lyrics there... :D

  • what a great song, thank you so much for posting!

  • Thank you for your comment :D

  • Re the lyrics: Arnold fat?

  • Yeah i know hehehe.. dont ask me Its says that everywhere!!! :D

  • well it's song about a Rastafarian secretly liking pork. so it would have to be arnold the pig from green acres the tv show.......remember we're talking about the 70's here

  • Genius. (Even If it it's not right.)

  • well at least the time line is right. i could be wrong as i wasn't even born yet.

  • It's a bit on a blind alley as I have no idea who Arnold the Pig is. Or Greenacres. Just sounded convincing.

  • well wiki it, it was a real popular show here in the states. i still got the theme song in my head.......you are my wife, goodbye city life ,green acres we are heeerrreee.

  • wow, what great memories, just a classic.

  • Thanks for your comment :)

  • pure gold! takes me way back to better days.
