@TheBlackCoCo I bought the pack in this video from ebid, but since then i've been buying my henna off of ebay. The seller lives in London, so I just go and pick it up from them to cut down on shipping costs.
I used natural color henna for years for its conditioning and strengthening values. Also, immediately after a treatment my hair looked thicker and shinier.
It takes some work to apply and remove henna since it hardens fast, does the oils make it easier?
@Nissi210 The oils might make the application smoother than just using plain henna, but it is always going to harden on your hair. It's a messy process but the results are nice :-)
i have castor oil....like the actual laxative (i dont use it for a laxative though, haha :P) does that work or do i need castor oil specifically for hair?
Thanks for the rosemary oil tip, I hate the smell of henna but the rosemary oil really helps (ground ginger and cinnamon seems to ease the grass clippings smell too).
@cocomodiva I used henna mainly for its hair strengthening properties(kind of like a protein treatment). It's also known for reducing dandruff and eliminating ringworm and the sorts.
Taking my braid extensions out in a couple of weeks. First thing I am going to do is a black tea rinse for shedding purposes then buy black henna, egg, and extra virgin olive oil. I think I might post a video because i don't see many naturals with my hair length/type.
I was wondering, if you dye your hair with henna (the colour black) will it ever at some point wash out or will it stay perminent? I know with the tatoos made of henna come off after 6 or 5 monthes does the same aply to the hair dye?
Where do i buy this henna powder I've looked in indian shops around where i live east london and cant find it they've only got henna in a box am sure its not the same thing.
I'm planning on trying henna during spring break, and I would have probably used a metal spoon to mix, thanks for sharing that it's not good to do that! xD
Yes, it's good for conditioning hair. Apart from it's colouring property, it's also a hair strengthener and an anti-microbial agent. Get to using your henna girl :-)
Thanks for the answers, Buni. An using henna to color my grey AND my brown. Was told to mix henna with something acidic, such as lemon or orange juice, vinegar, tea.
Been using hair dye since 1974 and henna is SO much healthier. Also relaxes some of the kinkiness out of my hair, comes out just-curly.
How long do the results last? Can henna alter the curl pattern permanently or temporarily? I would like to try it, but I don't want it to ruin my hair. Please reply..thanks! ;-)
I use henna as both color and conditioning, so I "touch up" my roots about every 5 weeks. It isn't altering the curl "pattern" for me, just slightly relaxes my very-curly hair to still-curly-but-not-kinky. If you saw me, you'd still say "she has curly hair." Not sure how long it lasts, as I've been doing it continually for over 6 months.
I mix body-grade henna w/ lemon juice to the same consistency, cover w/cling film, let sit overnight in warm spot. No one told me to use egg or oil; what is the benefit ? I am caucasion, used to be brunette, now more than 1/2 grey, going for deep auburn. I mix indigo with water, mix 60% henna to 40% indigo.Coat hair, wrap head snugly in cling, leave on 5 hours. Rinse well, use deep moisturizing conditioner. That's it, takes 4 days for the color to bloom to its final shade: a rich deep auburn.
@kasparcat I personally do not use henna to colour my hair, I decided to use it chiefly because of it's work similar to protein treatments. I added oil because it's a treatment for dandruff and adds lustre to hair. I added the egg because both henna and evoo are acidic and eggs are alkaline and I didn't want to shift the natural ph of my hair greatly, so the egg reduces the overall acidity of the mixture, plus it strengthens the henna as a protein treatment.
@kasparcat If you're trying to use henna to colour your gray hair, then I believe it's not advisable to add eggs or oil to your mixture because apparently it affects the ability of the henna to stick to the hair strands. Thanks for your comment.
I think I left it for about 4-5 hours, the henna has like a denaturation graph if that makes sense? If you leave it for between 4-7 hours, you would get the most colouring to your hair, if it's left for longer, then the natural dye in it denatures and it would do little to no colouring. I got mine online from herbalbrew (500g) on ebid, it was approx. £6 including shipping

@smwilso82 only if you have light colored hair and want it more red. if you have dark hair, metal can actually help the color to deepen.

lucianshabs25 1 year ago
@lucianshabs25 It's not, they should have the raw unrefined henna. Check in herbal shops, they are more likely to have it.

howcanyoudothistome1 1 year ago
@smwilso82 it only reacts after the dye release if it is true natural henna. you can totally mix with metal but it needs to sit in a non-metal bowl.
