  • The buffalo hunter in the old days would have also reused their brass cases - as far as I know, these were difficult to produce in the 1870s - those must've been pretty expensive back then? In that Quigley flick, he collects them all, and finds a German gunsmith who reloads them for him accord. to his specifications

  • at 10 bucks a round, i would hope you make them count

  • I have a 458 win mag that I would not put up aginst this gun, nice shooting. I always wanted a Sharpes45-120, what a rifle!!!!!!

  • This may be my favorite rifle design. Theirs just something about a sharps that makes you smile when you squeeze the trigger.

  • Christian Sharpe built a hammerless rifle, I believe it was called a Borschart model. Anyone ever seen one? Same dropping block action but hammerless.

  • what brand is the rifle? i ordered a shiloh quigley model in 45- 110 yesterday. now i just have to wait 16-18 months to post my videos.

  • @craveman85 The rifle in the video is an ArmiSport Quigley. Sense this video was was shot I have recieved

a Shiloh Montana Roughrider in 45-110. Have another Shiloh due to be delivered tomorrow in 38-55.

  • Very nice grouping sir! How did you edit the video with a PICTURE in PICTURE on the top right of the screen? thanks.

  • Shots 3, 4 & 5 etc went into the same hole. Assuming that the POA is the same and he is doing everything else the same, then it suggests that his sights have shifted. As that is a ladder peep dioper sight, that is quite likely.

  • nice, there goes over an ounce of lead and 2,553 foot pounds. one heck of a black powder gun, probably close to the highest velocity you can get out of a blackpowder cartridge firearm

  • Nice!

  • from everything I have read about the shiloh sharps all of their models are almost identical to the originals and have about the same shooting potential. I still remember the first one I saw about the .45-70 and they shot it against a real sharps and both shot about the same. the guns liked different ammo but otherwise had almost identical accuracy. I would not be surprised to find the same results with any shiloh sharps.

  • SURE NOT LIKE QUIGLEY DOWN UNDER HUH.

  • any idea why the point of impact shifted that much? what bullet/lube combo are you using. im casting 45-70 but having a difficult time with accuracy.

  • @craveman85 From the conversation I've had with other shooters it seems it has something to do with the shooter. The load in the video I think was 116 grs of swiss 1F and a 525 gr RCBS cast bullet. SPG lube Norma brass and CCI BR2 primers.

  • @craveman85 Ha ha Shooter's shoulder was dislocated from first 2 shots.

  • Cabelas sells this gun for $1800, the ammo makes it too expensive to shoot on a regular basis at around $7.15 per shot for the 45-120 , buying a box of 20 rounds for $143.00, this is definitely not a poor man's gun, and as a reloader myself I'd like to know how much it costs to reload

  • @undergroundbasement

Best I can figure around .75 each, If you already have brass and the reloading eq.

  • @Quigley122 can you make a video about reloading 45/120 cases? Do you paper patch them too? What equipment you use...etc

  • @undergroundbasement about 35cents per round for powder, 3 cents for a primer and if you cast your own from free lead then the lube would put you up around 40 cents. if you have to buy bullets or pay for lead then its a different story. it costs me around 20cents to reload my 45-70. thats why my shoulder has been purple for the past 2 months.

  • @craveman85 I buy my bullets casted and lubed, witha wad it cost me around 70 cents to load a 45-70

  • @craveman85 I buy my bullets casted and lubed, with a fiber wad it cost me around 70 cents to load a 45-70

Mr Quigley that is some fine shooting

  • its nice to shoot one that you can see the holes in the target from the line!!

    excellence bar none!!

    i'm jealous, always wanted one!!

  • what is 45-120 ?

  • @druisten3 its a 45-70 with 120 grains of powder hence scratch the 70 out and put 120 there same cartrage more powder

  • @druisten3

    A 45/120 is usually a very painfull shoulder! =D

  • one hell of a grouping!

  • pretty nice video, like it alot, shoots sweet

  • In the old days, there was some pretty damn long shots with these things......

  • I love long range shooting but most of the ranges nearby don't go beyond 500 meters and most don't even offer that much. Discouraging to say the least.

  • What is the maximum range you can accurately shoot one of these rifles?

  • more than 1000 yards.

If i'm right the ongest distance was 1538 yards.

  • Wow that's pretty good for such a slow moving bullet.

  • Oh yes you're right^^

In my free time I shot with the sharps, too.

The precision is awesome and after a few times it's like an addiction:)

  • My grandpa has an original Springfield trapdoor rifle in .45-70. I only shot it a few times but it was fun. The recoil was too much for me then so I was mostly just hanging on.

  • @disturbedone5009

Well the chamber pressure of a Trapdoor is about 18000 PSIG.

You take a Ruger #1 and you can take it up to 38,000 or so PSIG.

My shoulder just hurts thinking about that!

  • With that kind of pressure what would the max range be?

  • @disturbedone5009

Well first off its 31,000 PSIG- so I had to correct myself. The max range? Around 3.5 miles I'd guessing. Look up the "Sandy Hook Rifle Test" where the US Army used the 577 Martini- Ross, the 45-70 US Gov't, and a few others- they were lobbing these bullets at a target something like 3 miles away, and were still pulling the bullets out of the sand to retrieve them.

Accurately? 1500 yards for a man sized target if youi do your part

  • ....That clip from Quigley certainly stirs up the unskilled(from memory,it wassnt at 600m that bucket, but thats what the monkeys reckon it was ). My mate also tends to hit a 2 foot steel gong at 350m standing! He has everything tuned...even down to the alloy of the bullets...damn great to watch :)

But one thing he does do to keep the residue soft is use a blow tube down the barrel from the breech...seems to make a difference.

  • @MrTrailltrader Yep,I have a friend who shoots a Sharps in 45/90...damn fine piece of engineering.Currently having amusement with a couple of flobknobs saying it is impossible to do a standing shot, and hit a target at 600m with a 45/110

  • @saltydog45

Not true- anyone who's spent enough trigger time can put that bullet where they want it. 600 meteres with a 45/110 wouldn't be that hard. Gopher or a Prarie Dog might be hard to hit at 600, but if the targets a house? Easy shot!

The Sandy Hook Tests were 24' by 12' if I remember right

  • @MrTrailltrader Yep,I know that and you know that, but good old internet warriors and nitro demons have no idea what real skill is :)

  • @saltydog45

Yeah, I know- all the demo's in the world arn't going to make a rats ass difference in the real world.

Example- throw your weapon down in the mud and snow and dirt THEN shoot for accuracy. If you don't train for the worst, then don't expect the best

  • yeah it was made by Billy Dixon, he was using a .50-90 caliber model

  • One of the great features of rifle like this is

that you usually don't have to shoot it twice

  • @jager18903

. o O (Probably because the bruises on your shoulder would disuade most normal humans)

  • great rifle sir

  • That is some firepower :D

  • you are my hero

  • Looks like fun.

I do the same with my 45-110 We even shoot a mile!

Check out the Wasserburger mile Video

    KW

  • Great clip!! How do you split the screen like that?? Great clip, Ive added it to my Fav's.

  • If you look at the end of the clip, you will see the other camera near the target. Edited with Sony Vegas software.

  • Thank you so much, you have done a great job!

  • Isn't the Fg powder used for big bore cannons rather than rifles?

  • 1F is also used in large capacity rifle cases.

  • I love my Taylor Sharps rifle!

I even cast my own lead for it!
