Sometimes i think how unlucky i am. I'm 16 and love santana, jimi, the beatles, you name it. But they were gone and/or way past their prime before i was even born.
i am 22 and i was into the same shit at your age and still am. its timeless. i am just lucky to have family members and friends that were there when it happened.
My mum and dad (both in their sixties) remember watching Joe in local pubs in our area. Joe is from Sheffield and used to visit Chesterfield regularly, he played mainly at Barrow Hill but also appeared at the Williamthorpe Hotel ( which is no more ) and the Holmewood Miners Welfare which is in the village i live in. They said then he was amazing and destined for stardom. Its just great to see a working class lad made good.
Haha, I think I saw that on an airplane (in coach), so I was crying for other reasons.. besides, you know how much better films seem when you're on a plane than they actually are (the captive audience effect).
now that i think about it angus looks like a poser compared to joe. This performance is so raw and passionate. No fancy lights shining, theatrics or cannons going off here. this isnt staged or choregraphed like alot crap today seems to be. Every year music seems to be losing its soul. One of best performances ive ever seen here.
angus a poser, turn it up. He was just eletric and into everything he did. A complete nutter on stage. This seems more passionate because the lyrics are more meaningful, ACDC were hard rock.
They give all what they have in Woodstok, that is why will never be repeated, the Who, Jimmi,Santana Country fish and joe ,Joe cocker Ten years after johny winter etc.

Most "originals" are hard to beat, because they have the "owners stamp" on them - in this case the Beatles. But Joe did it. One of those few examples where it was "overstamped" with something better - JOE COCKER'S VERSION.
If you haven't got "Mad Dogs & Englishmen" get it!

Well, actually they used a bass player. For example Carol Kaye played bass on their first album. They didn't have a bass player as a member of the band, maybe that was what you were saying, but a lot of bands have done that. Jim Morrison was a hell of a singer and especially on stage, but I think he's no match for Cocker.

i think we can all agree on the fact that what went on in the 60s and early 70s was special. it will never happen again. but the sheer amount of prolific music being made is just mind boggleing. just the amount of talent that was born during that generation was amazing.
So true. Just try to tell that to all these kids auditioning for "American Idol!" "So what song are you gonna sing?" "OH WHEN WILL MY REFLECTION SHOW, WHO I AM INSIDE!" Gag me with a rusted pitchfork. These kids who go on shows like that, looking to be a part of that crap, are still the majority and they're L-O-S-T! What we see HERE, overcomes THAT by a long, long, long shot. Cocker rules, Woodstock rules, the '60s rules!
ruleoforder: I don't even know what you are talking about in your comment so since I don't, I'm going to consider it as offensive. Simple music? Read between the lines, brother. YOU are the simple minded one.
beatles' version is too twee or something for me, but this is CLASS! brings back so many memories of my childhood both cus of 'the wonder years' and cus my dad also used 2 listen 2 joe all the time, so this version def has a special place in my heart:)
Even though your body is 15 'seems like your soul is much older , I never thought 'could find a post like this, definetly not from a 15yr old's, man I really agree wit you, this kind of music just ain't no more...
Was 17 at the time, couldn't catch a ride out there. I remember getting stoned and going to the movie of Woodstock, wow. I hope they bring it back out for the forty year reunion. I'd like to see it again What a blast from the past it would be!
I don't think they should. The last two woodstock incarnation sucked ass. Half of the original performers are dead or the bands are retired or broken up or whatever. The music industry would turn it into a major cash-in and most of the performers wouldn't be of the same caliber as the original artists. Instead of Jimi Hendrix we'd have Oasis. Woodstock was a very special event, and I doubt any other event has captured the spirits of a revolutionary time so well, or ever will.
there is a probably gonna take a woodstock place in august 09' , there gonna deticate to the 69 woodstock, same date, alot of the old artists, and the motto " 3 days of peace and music " will be lived again, we can make this another good one people ;), but there never will be an woodstock, like the 69 woodstock ever again :(;)
i saw Joe Cocker perform this song last year at an open air concert and his voice is stronger and better than ever before.. body language remains the same..
i love this song...too bad this vid was out of sync...xD i LOVE his air guitar! joe cocker's version is so great, but its not a matter of which one-beatles or this one-was better, this is a COMPLETELY different style and mood to the song than the beatles' version (which i love). both of them are great, in a different way.

Hmmm pues Ringo era el menos talentoso sin duda alguna. Y esta canción fue escrita por Lennon/McCartney para que la cantara Ringo.
juanchoathos 3 years ago

Sure The Beatles were great, but I hate that everyone puts all the other GREAT 60s singers/bands down.
Like what about Bob Dylan, Donovan, The Mamas and The Papas, Janis Joplin.
The Beatles did many many many covers of other great bands songs. Bob Dylan wrote and help to write many of their songs, so did Donovan.
And please, don't get me wrong, I love The Beatles, they just aren't better than all the other great 60s bands.

This is pure performance and release of emotion *onstage* at it's best. truly remarkable and a treasure.
Anyway youtube "Blue Siberia" for a kaleidoscope photographed with a high resolution camera. Cool if you like the 60s.

well, actually he didn't, but he poured some much soul in it that he deserves writing credits.

no ... lennon/mccartney deserve the credit ... simply since they wrote it ... ????

Sadly, they no longer air it on television. It's a shame because it was such an amazing show. You can buy it on DVD though.
